PS3 price cut -- not as unrealistic as originally surmised?
We've said it before and we'll say it again: of all the gaming magazines that pollute the public, we'd like to trust Famitsu the most. Japanese, yes, but very well-respected. Why else would Wikipedia devote an entire sub-entry to games that received perfect scores from them? Created and distributed (might be the wrong term) by Enterbrain, its opinion is regarded highly among many in the industry. With recent news of the Wii outselling the PS3 4-to-1 and the PS2 scratching out more sales than its supposed heir, Enterbrain and Famitsu President Hirokazu Hamamura had this to say regarding the PS3: "There could be a price cut for the PS3 by the end of the year, and more software titles will hit the market. I expect the PS3 to be doing better after a while. Of course, the Wii will keep running ahead all the while." True enough. Hopefully third-party developers will stay on board the Wii-ship, or else expect Mario Party to quickly pass Final Fantasy in sequels.

The Wii is a fad. How many people are going to stay genuinely entertained by games that require waving your arms around like an idiot, with graphics that make Quake 1 look good?

The Wii is here to stay - it's the most affordable of the three new consoles, and the simple but innovative game play is accessible to everyone. Don't want to flail your arms around? Take a rest - just flick your wrist.
The DS has been wildly successful in japan, as well as elsewhere. All Nintendo has to do to keep their head start is tie the wii in to the DS. Also, Nintendo has a long history of success with variations on their consoles - for example, the gameboy begot the colored gameboy which begot the pocket gameboy which begot gameboy color. The gameboy got a boost in sales with every evolution. They've done the same thing with the gameboy advance, as well as the DS. What makes you think we won't see a special edition Wii of some sort next holiday season?
They've got the sales to attract devs, and they've got the business strategy to keep the sales.

The Wii is a novolty and will soon start lossing some of it's demand. But, it will not go anywhere. Like the gamecube it will produce games that people will buy for the life of the console.
As far as my personal feeling on the system go. It is a peice of Crap! As consoles go it is 2-5 years behind the times. It may be cheaper than both the 360 and the PS3 but still a rip off. The console is at best an updated xbxo and anything more than $100 is a waste of loot. At least the 360 and the PS3 can justify their cost. They both give you true Nex-Gen games. And you can justify paying 600 for a PS3 just to use it as a Blueray player and it's still cheaper than buying a stand alone blueray player.
The Wii Sux! Unless your a child between the ages of 6-12.

The Wii is as much a fad as the average PS3 fanboy that knows how to spell.
I've got both. Guess which clocks in more time in my living room?

if PS3 gets a price cut and im all in.

If Sony was Announcing this it would slow down PS3 Sales, because people would wait for the cut.
If I did not already own one and was thinking of getting one, and I heard there was a price cut looming, what would I do?
I would wait for the Price cut.
However, I agree that a Price cut could come by year end because the Parts to make the PS3 are expensive because of the BluRay Components being so New. Soon the BluRay Components will be more affordable for Sony so If they feel it will help bolster sales they may cut the Price for Next Christmas Season.
But you never know... Microsoft's 360 is almost 1 1/2 years old now and no price cut yet.

Well I can see the manufacturing price going down but not the retail price, or not by much.
Sony is trying to make a profit out of the PS3, not continue to loose out on every system sold. Many of people are forgetting that.
These things will help drop the price a little though:
65nm Cell (smaller processor=cheaper)
If Blu-Ray continues to dominate the format war then the cost of that will fall.
And when Sony removes the Emotion Engine out of the PS3, when they switch backwards compatibility to software.
Those three things are most likely going to drop the price by at least $150. But again Sony wants profit out of the PS3, so saying there will be a price drop is something that MAY NOT happen so soon after launch...

DLB1000... your stupidity can not be expressed in words alone, it requires furniture smashing, head banging against the wall, and weird yelps and screams to describe how stupid you are.
