PS3 finds a friend in Activision

Activision intially set a goal of $170 million the fiscal quarter of January-March of 2007, but they've recently raised it to $200 million. Now, why in the world would they do that? Activision CFO Thomas Tippl explained: "Better visibility regarding the allocation of PlayStation 3 hardware... [we have received] more specific information...from Sony on how their units are going to break out in Europe. We have reflected that in our updated guidance."

As far as the console race goes, Activision makes a refreshingly different prediction, if limited to the United States. They estimate that the XBox 360 will sell five million units this year, with the Wii, PS2, and PS3 selling four million each. They also expect ten million handhelds to sell, but weren't specific as to which one (if a slimmer, cheaper PSP is released... who knows). In all, Activision is expressing support for the PlayStation 3 and have adjusted their expected revenue accordingly. Let's hope they made the right choice!
