Killzone 2: to be or not to be... at the Game Developer's Conference
One place says Killzone 2 will be at GDC while another source gets told that no, in fact, Killzone 2 won't be at GDC at all. Who to trust? It's a tough call, since we reported on a pretty lofty rumor stating that a demo for the new game may just make an appearance at the Game Developer's Conference. After going over the two linked stories above, you may think that, indeed, IGN has the correct story. They spoke with Sony, after all, right? But, CVG has "well-placed sources!" This is turning into more and more of a big deal, but it really shouldn't. If it's there, neat. If not, well, damn. Now is the time for all of the beautiful readers out there to think about the two conflicting ideas presented here and discuss them in a rational, logical, adult manner. Personally, I'd like to believe the game will still make an appearance. It's not like Sony would try to hide its trump card, right?

Sony could be denying it because it isn't true, or they could be denying it because they don't want to spoil the surprise. "No, we're NOT having a surprise birthday party for you tomorrow... we are still 'going out to dinner' as planned...."
Sony could also be denying it because although it's not showing up at GDC, it would be showing up shortly afterward, so they are being true to their words in a sense.
I don't believe in the whole "Sony trying to disrupt the Halo 3 beta" conspiracy theory crap though. It's a BETA....oh noes...

hmm... but I guess the real question is:
Do we care?

If Sony were wise they would just simply never ever mention KillZone again and move on to something else. There is about a 99% chance that this game is going to suck hard just as it has in the past and with such high expectations and media attention that Sony so infamously garnered for itself...it's bound to be ripped a new one even if it's half way decent.

i understand not showing it, if having it ready and bug free is an issue. The only strange thing about this game to me is that other than the E3 footage there isn't any leaked pics or videos since which has me thinking that things aren't going so well since if your a dev. you try and keep hype going with media tidbits like pics to show progress and keep intrest up..any game that is in development shows something new

I would love to see Killzone at the GVG but, not at any cost. My only real concern is that they take thier time and give me a game that looks like what they showed at E3. At this point in time I just don't want a let down. I'm more concerned with Sony fixing the PS3 OS and beefing up thier PSM. We need more demos.

Again, you kids need to understand that the PS3's hardware is not capable of doing something that looks like the Killzone CG trailer. Epic even said because of it's hardware, it would not be able to run Gears of War. Just have realistic expectations for it. It will probably look graphicaly a little bit better than Resistance.

I think the Best way to make Killzone great is bring it out in 08. That way Halo will be out of the way and this way there can be more added to the game. Plus the Demo should come out right when Halo3 is about to launch. That way you can get a taste of what to come. So if Killzone is to look any thing like the Trailer at E3 05 it needs to come out in 08.

Sony is probably hiding it while they try to determine whether they can make it graphically competitive with Gears. Once they realize they cannot, they'll release it as the first person shooter with the second best console graphics.
Of course, PC shooters will look significantly better as people upgrade away from the 256MB NV70 that the PS3 has (some of my friends still have the old NV70 but most are looking to upgrade it soon as it is quite an aging card).

Let’s get one thing straight. There is nothing the 360 can do that the PS3 can't. The only argument you can make (if any) is that the PS3 should be 10x's better than the 360 and it is only 0.5x's better. Gears was a 360 only and they never attempted to put it on the PS3. The PS3 is a better console (Be it Marginally better) than the 360. All you Microsoft fanboys can say what you will. But Resistance is proof. Resistance was a launch title and it looked better than everything the 360 put out in their first full year. The 360 has only 2 title that are worth talking about and that is Gears and Lost Planet (which where both awesome games) and that is it. All the other titles out suck! Give the PS3 the better part of a year and you will see the tide start to swing!

Hmmm...so by your standards the PS3 has only one good game then...and that would be Resistance. Looks like you'll be waiting a very long time to see Titles that meet your high criteria on the PS3.
But hey...I guess if I had chosen to sit out a whole year of next gen gaming on the 360 I would have had to have convinced myself that everything sucked as well.
Be sure to stock up on Blu-Ray movies cause for the next year thats about all the PS3 will be good for.
