Armored Core 4: pretty mechs, nice tunnels, drab outdoors?

- Tuning the mech is mandatory, but not overbearing or overly tedious.
- Action is fast and furious, unlike many mech games based on realistic, slow bulky robot battles.
- The controls are streamlined and easy to get the hang of.
- Laser swords.
- Different mission objectives range from defeating a certain obstacle in a certain amount of time, conserving ammo, or just blowing everything up on the map.
- Most unlocking of upgrades is more mandatory for the online mode, so you can better differentiate your mech from other people.
- Outdoor levels can appear drab or empty, but indoor levels are nicely done.
- Destructable environments are present, but not everywhere. Kind of sad that some buildings can be destroyed but others can't.
- Online modes will include deathmatch and 8-person team deathmatches.
- You can trade parts with people you meet online.
- No voice chat for PS3.
- 360 and PS3 builds will look identical, so no need to compare!
That's it for now. We'll pick this game up when it's released in mid-March and... see you online!

All sounds good but why the F are we excluded from voice chat? Grrr..Annoying.
alienclay @ Feb 15th 2007 6:30PM
wtf! no VC? how hard would it have been to implement? resistance has it! it's not like bluetooth or wired usb connections are so hard to work with! they better patch this after the fact.

I wonder, if its cross platform online as well, wouldn't mind playing this game with some PS3 people cause that means that theres just a larger community to play with...
humpty @ Feb 15th 2007 6:21PM
PS3 multiplayer is free... if you want chat, buy a 360 and pony up the annual fee.
matjet @ Feb 15th 2007 7:39PM
"Laser swords", i believe the term is "lightsabers"!
a.j. @ Feb 15th 2007 10:46PM
@2 I have a 360 thanks, voice chat has nothing to do with free/not free multiplayer. "pony up" on getting a life, troll.
humpty @ Feb 15th 2007 8:14PM
Hey AJ, you're made your choice then, why dont you giddy on out of here, moron.
just1gamer @ Feb 15th 2007 11:48PM
Wait a.j. that doesn't make any sence, if you have a 360 get that version then, no matter i'll be gettin' it anyways (ps3 version) because i've been a huge fan of the series since the playstation 1 days, and it looks great! plus finally online! see you guys there ineed!

I was looking forward to getting this game on the PS3, but now I hear there is no voice chat. It looks like I am going to have to buy the XBOX360 version of this game then.
TheSh0wstopper @ Feb 16th 2007 10:17AM
Sorry fellas,
I was gonna get this game import for ps3 but a friend convinced me to wait for the american version so i did. And now I hear no VOICE CHAT!!! i really wanted to get this game for PS3 and was gonna over look the lackof rumble but voice chat is in-excusable. I guess I gotta get it for 360.
a.j. @ Feb 16th 2007 10:54AM
ughk..you guys are missing my point. YES, i own a 360 as well as a PS3 however, i'm trying to show my PS3 some love so if I had a choice right now whether to buy a game released on both, I'd get the PS3 version. that said, it sucks when ONE thing, like VC gets cut out because it forces people to lean the other way. ok?
ndoerr @ Feb 16th 2007 11:23AM
Hey guys -- this is probably a really dumb question on my behalf, but do you think the load times will be different across the two versions? I mean, they've said the builds will be identical, but would a DVD load faster than a Blu-ray? I'm sort of miffed -- not saying one will load faster or not. Just wondering if.
alienclay @ Feb 16th 2007 12:49PM
that's hard to say. if the 360 version supports harddrive preloading than it shouldn't be an issue BD or DVD. have to wait to compare.

"That's it for now. We'll pick this game up when it's released in mid-March and... see you online!"
...Yes, and unfortunately I will likely be buying this for my 360, as that system has voice communication!
I'm totally there with A.J. on this... I'm finding myself picking the multiplatform games for my 360, (which is cool, the 360 is a good system, and 'fun' is 'fun'), but the more this goes on, the more the PS3 turns into the secondary system like the original Xbox was - yeah, it might have been a little better than the PS2, but when every one of your friends has the PS2, you stick with that version so you can all play online or you intuitively know the controller when you play at a friend's house. Unless things go cross-platform, which is unlikely with LIVE, the PS3 version of a game will continue to be the unlikely choice for people who have multiple systems at home.
I wish Sony had included a cheap USB headset with every PS3... This is becoming a real factor in what platform I'm supporting. I love my PS3, but no 'chat' while the 30 has it, on top of the 'no need to compare, they LOOK THE SAME' quote, and what are we multiplatformers to do? YOU'RE KILLING US HERE, SONY. Enact some standards and hold your developers to them!
"PS3 multiplayer is free... if you want chat, buy a 360 and pony up the annual fee - Humpty"
Don't be naive. You know cost is not the issue. We all 'pony'd up' at least $100 more for our PS3 than a 360 costs with LIVE. The PS3 not having voice chat on a game like this is just embarrassing.

I just got this game in the mail 2 days ago, Import... all i have to say is WOW, that intro tralier is AWESOME,, its to bad that game doesnt every come close to the action you get put to you on the opening CG. I had such great hopes for this game.. BUT THE GRAPHICS ARE HORRIABLE, it shard to tell when ur watch'n all of those trailers and screen caps.. but nope playing 1080 and the graphics suck. which really surpises me when Chromehounds looks 100x better than this. what really sucks is you have all this fast paced action and you use last gen partical effects to show explosions and shots... the after burners i have to admit are really nice looking, and customizing your mech isnt very fun, because you cant see it that much ingame to tell what u changed on it, decals are pointless to paint on.. once again,, if i havn't played chromehounds its a way better game (thou differnt in nature, slower paced tacitle compared to fast pace lone fighting, small hiecopters and tanks)
wait for this to hit the 40$ and below bin
