WipeOut to steal MotorStorm's engine

Two great PS3 racing franchises... one great PS3 game engine. So says the latest edition of EGM magazine which talks about the next incarnation of the PlayStation brand's fastest, slickest racer. Sure, there have been pretenders to the WipeOut crown, but no one -- in our humble opinion -- has surpassed the franchise's nausea inducing need for speed. Sony and the developers must have a lot of confidence in their little MotorStorm engine-that-could... but based on the latest screenshots of MS, this is looking like a great decision (and one that could help bring WipeOut to the PS3 sooner rather than later).

You guys seem awfully lonely over here. Why not head over to XB360FB? They seem to be pretty lively. =)

Drew,
Thanks for your concern about all of us here, extending the hand of X360FB friendship. You're sweet.
However, as lonely as I've ever been, I've never been lonely enough to visit a blog about a console I have no interest in owning.
Can you say the same?

Being the proud owner of almost every console and handheld to release in the past eight or nine years (including the PS3 and PSP), yes, yes I can. =P
It was just a light hearted jab, don't take it too harshly. I'm a regular visitor, and I just thought I'd poke fun at the decided lack of talk going on of late. No hard feelings, man.

Wasn't it proven that those so called PS3 screenshots of the next Wipeout were from the PSP version? If not, I REALLY hope it looks better than that on the PS3..those gfx are hardly better than Pure.....

Drew, it's only getting started... I too own all systems and I can say it was pretty quiet and peaceful waiting for the drought of 360 games one year ago. But we all survived and the 360 had a great year. I'm hoping for the PS3 to come into it's own as well.
As for WipeOut, I'm a fan. I kept my long-box release of the first game because of the awesome Designer's Republic packaging,

I even got a NegCon to play WipeOut with,

...and the soundtracks were great for the time, and hold up as time-capsule flash-backs to the era.
I look forward to checking out a new WipeOut, but I won't pretend that it won't be a niche game. I know it's about all we have coming out with Forza2, Motorstorm, etc., but are loop-track racing games really the most interesting to gamers right now? Online modes would help the cause... I'm looking forward to the domestic MotorStorm's online element, but I wish these games would add some sprint/long-distance point-A-to-point-B modes... Cross-the-desert or cross-the-futuristic wasteland type stuff, you know?

I would love some levels in Swamps and throw in some mud then the future look and this game really could look and play great.

I really wasn't that impressed with the Motorstorm demo at retail. PGR3 looks better to me. However, I am a huge Wipeout fan and hope they can put the engine to good work. I still wish they would come out with a Wipeout compilation disc with all the tracks from the first three games (or atleast from Wipeout XL)...come on Sony, let's see some pics!!!

So the Wipeout team infiltrated the Motorstorm HQ and stole the game engine, just because they are too lazy to develop their own engine?
Wow, it´s a hard cold world out there.

SCE Studio Liverpool and evolution studios arn't that far apart in terms of the geography involved between them...besides i assume they both share programing techniques...as does naughty dog and insomniac
