PS3's plan for Australia: demo, demo, demo!
The Australian market has to pay a hefty fee for their PS3's -- think around the one-thousand mark. With that in mind, the Sony reps down under have a lot of swaying to do in an attempt to prove to consumers that the PlayStation 3 is the wave of the future. Their main way to do this is to get the consoles into as many demo units as possible so as many people as possible can get a hands-on impression Sony's new system. We've already shown how Australian retailers are going all the way in support of Blu-ray, so this push for the PS3 is just another step to qualify the price of the system. According to Michael Ephraim of SCE, "the key retailers -- Harvey Norman, Domayne, JB, Myer -- all these stores that I have just mentioned sell consumer electronics and they see the benefit to selling PS3 properly because they will sell Bravia (TVs), MP3 Players (and) Walkmans. Demo is the way to go. It is a strategic direction I have given the organisation as far as marketing dollars, retail co-op dollars." Righteous. Personally, I wouldn't be able to snag the PS3 for a four-figure amount and few people will (unless the conversion rate is a lot different than assumed). All we can say in this situation is, "Good luck, Sony..." It's going to be a hard sell, fo' sho'.

Killer -- it's from "40 Year-Old Virgin". Not the phrase itself, but it's what I was thinking when I typed it. One of my more obscure references.

After you do the exchange, neither the 360 or PS3 are really that much more down under.
Dave @ Feb 27th 2007 2:26AM
Yeah Roofus, 350 dollars is not that much more.
Xbox 360: 649.95
PS3: 999.95

"key retailers -- Harvey Norman, Domayne, JB, Myer"
Lol, Harvey Norman and Domayne are NOT key retailers...Kmart, Big-W and Target are, and they aren't stocking PS3s at this stage.
Not a good sign if you ask me.

Finland; 690 € (EUR) = ~905 $ (USD).
Not around the same as everyone else.

this is for brother estapol, kmart big w and target actually cant get there hands on the ps3 console at the moment because sony as a company are pushing it as a higher end console. The sales people at these stores like kmart dont know shit about blue ray. Ps3 is being marketed as an all in one concept. The dumb shits at kmart have know idea about the benifts of ps3, which means they dont know how to sell it. And for $999.00 australian it is a cheap way of getting a decent blue ray player, when you compare it to samsungs cheap shit at also $999.00 Aus. Or a good quality player like panasonics blue ray at $2400 Aus
