PS3 to hit a blooming point in May?
Sony of America's Jack Tretton should stop talking. After the EGM interview fiasco where he promised $1,200 cash money dollar bill currency to anyone finding a PS3 on a store shelf (at the beginning of January, interview published near February), he should know that talking isn't his strong point right now. He was quoted as saying: "Our goal is to fill shelves across the United States. Our goal is not to have empty shelves, it's to have full shelves. If we have empty shelves, that's one less consumer who could have bought a PlayStation 3." We guess. There are some consumers who will see a plethora of a machine and say "well, there's a lot of these. Guess they aren't selling well. Must suck."Even so, there are places where the PS3 is still hard to come by, just like the Wii (but the Wii is a more widespread dearth, at least around Georgia). Getting the PS3 into all stores in decent quantities will be better than refusing to allocate units across the nation. A lot of people say the console wars will "truly begin" once all the new consoles are sitting on shelves in decent quantities, thanks to increased shipments and the like. Maybe so, maybe not. We're kind of anxious to see if Sony can still hit that six million unit mark by March. If so, we'll have to tip our hat because that's pretty impressive. Wouldn't you agree?

At the end of March i'm guessing they'll have sold 3.5 -4 million Playstation 3's. Did they set the target for 6 million shipped or 6 million sold? If it's 6 million sold then that's really unlikely to happen, and an irrational target. 6 million by the end of August is more realistic.
I'll be one of those sales anyway.

@ Naaiif -- no worries, it's six million units shipped. I wouldn't hold my breath for six million sold. That's pretty much beyond any console ever, methinks.

What are the numbers sold to consumers not to retailers Sony?
Frick any company can inflate their numbers for a quarter by shipping or just by getting an PO and say its sold. (Microsoft and Nintendo plus every other company in existance) Its all that corporate BS.
The few units I have seen that were bought by consumers were to buy them just for their Blu Ray players. They had no interest in the gaming functions. need some games Sony....please....

Nintendo usually says sold, not shipped and at this point its 5 million sold.

Well my local best buy here in Colorado, isn't selling that many ps3's
I'm not saying they're not selling nation wide, but according to my friend that works in the receiving department, he says it's the slowest moving next gen game console.
My guess is that the demand must be regional

I used to work in a camera store, and... trust me, people DO NOT scoff at what's in stock. Either they are informed and know what they want, or they are not informed and usually trust the salesman's feedback, or go to the system with the prettier box.
Limited shelf space for games is a very different story.

I think PS3 sales will really jump when sony drops the price even if it's only by a little bit.

Not really completely out of the reach of every console. The Wii and PS2 (off the top of my head) sold (or is likely to sell) over 6 million in a similar time frame to what the PS3 has had. That number is pretty ridiculous though. Whether or not the PS3 will make 6 million shipped will rely on the european launch I think. Currently (that is without on of the 3 largest markets for video games)I do not think it is likely to reach that number, but a strong European release would change that.
