PSP sales beat PS3 and Wii combined

Most likely thanks to the stupendous launch of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd, the PSP has seen a significant boost in hardware sales this week, beating out both the PS3 and Wii combined. According to VGcharts.org, the PSP sold 96,750 systems in the previous week, an increase of 187%. The Wii sold through 76,250 systems and the PS3 sold through 20,250. Using the magical powers of "addition," we can see that the PSP has beaten both of these systems combined.
Software sales were healthy as well: the PSP had the greatest amount of software sales for the week at 791,250 titles sold. This actually beats the combined software sales of the DS and Wii (561,250 and 218,250 respectively).
While this is good news for Sony fans, one also has to note that the DS hardware has still trumped the PSP, even in light of such a major release. 146,250 of Nintendo's dual screened handheld were sold the same week.

Whoa! I couldn't help but laugh out loud when I read the 187% part.
Kannon @ Feb 28th 2007 6:51PM
Wow, it beat out a system that is completely sold out week after week with a game that is as close to necessary for all PSP owners in Japan to own.
pixelator @ Feb 28th 2007 8:56PM
Why laugh at a 187% increase? Are you that unfamiliar with math?
Cue the snotty Nintendo fanboys...
shinneri @ Feb 28th 2007 9:28PM

KNUCKLES @ Feb 28th 2007 8:38PM

Qtrain2Bklyn @ Feb 28th 2007 9:25PM
they still screwed the game up by not adding multiplayer infrustructure.. just my opinion.
Andrew Yoon @ Feb 28th 2007 9:21PM

Why? DS fnaboys haven't studied math yet.
(there that'll get going)

Hmm. That also means the DS outsold the PSP and the PS3 all in one week.
I think that sounds better anyway. ;)

"Wow, it beat out a system that is completely sold out week after week with a game that is as close to necessary for all PSP owners in Japan to own."
this is talking about systems sold not games so obviously it isnt just a necessity of psp owners to wno but many whow erent psp owner sbefore now want to own it, also it almost matched the ds so its still impressive even as you say the wii is out of stock or something. Also it outsold the wii and ds software as well.

Wow thats some huge sales boost. Anyone who says PSP is a failure is obviously retarded.

does anyone in japan NOT have a ds? i mean [gob] COME ON! [/gob]

I don't know who keeps saying that MH2 doesn't have infrastructure support but a lot of the reports that I've been reading has stated that they know that it at least has wifi to download new quests, and infrastructure coop is still unconfirmed. So cool out... unless youre fluent in Japanese.
spir @ Mar 1st 2007 9:30AM
yes that says Dreamcast. Games are still being develop for it.

PSP...Rise from your grave!!!!!!!!
Thomas @ Mar 1st 2007 10:38AM
PSP outsold, the xbox 360, Wii, and DS... all because of Monster Hunter... that's the game that Sony needs ot make exclusive on the PS3
PSP is kickin ass... watchout!!!!
Strangler @ Mar 1st 2007 2:40PM
"12. does anyone in japan NOT have a ds? i mean [gob] COME ON! [/gob]"
the sales are artificial cause they are high because everyone is trying to trade in their old ds for a light and it doesnt take itnoa ccount they wont be using their old ds anymore.
Strangler @ Mar 1st 2007 3:19PM

really crappy ones
pixelator @ Mar 6th 2007 12:16PM
I was initially inclined to dismiss this, but now I wonder what the real sales figure would be if you removed all old Phat trade-ins/upgrades?
From a strictly business perspective it doesn't matter since Ninty has sold the systems one way or the other, but it does affect software sellthrough and the final tally of 'new' DS owners (the total 'sold' figure doesn't reflect how many individual people actually own one DS).
If you sell the Phat off, then it goes to someone else. But if you trade it in, I suspect many of these are sitting on EB and Gamestop shelves collecting dust. I know my local shop has a gob of these as they're a moneygrubbing company and aren't exactly GIVING them away.

what do you mean? doing math is actually a game on the DS!!!
txa1265 @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:54AM
But pixelator - if the sales were *close* it might matter, but during the last 12 months it has been ~19 million DS sales to 3.5 million PSP sales.
That said it is nice to see this - I hate *any* system not judged on the merits. The way I see it, early on the PSP was over-estimated in terms of the capabilities and how it would thrash the DS, and more recently it has been UNDER-estimated with people calling it dead and having no games. Perhaps this will just shut *both* sides up and let us gamers enjoy the handheld in peace :)

haha, its cuz the homebrew community ripped up the psp's security. That thing has like 3456256 homebrew apps :p.
