Rumble unquestionably coming to PS3... right?
Immersion and Sony are friends again. Everything is settled, the world is at peace, blah blah blah... Bob Loblaw Lobs Law Bomb! Sometimes I feel like I'm one of about four people who watched Arrested Development. Someone help me out here! In any case, Immersion and Sony resolved their differences and have once again entered into a partnership to stick Immersion stuff inside of Sony stuff -- use your imagination carefully.Dave Karraker said this: "We are very pleased to have reached a cooperative agreement with Immersion regarding the use of its advanced vibration technology (haptics technology). We look forward to working closely with them as we explore new and innovative ways to utilize this technology in PlayStation products." Great. With rumble coming back, possibly, we ask this: can firmware game updates install rumble tech in games currently out that don't support it, like Resistance or MotorStorm?
GamesIndustry followed up this story by noting that Immersion has indeed begun to incorporate the new rumble technology in Sony products. It's not an "if" anymore -- it's "when" rumble will be released. As CEO of Immersion, Victor Viegas, put it: "Our new business agreement with Sony is specifically intended to enable advanced vibration capability for the benefit of the PlayStation community." Hell yeah. Now vibration enthusiasts have nothing to complain about ever again. Just as stand-up comic Daniel Tosh said, "we should legalize marijuana in this country. Yeah, that way pot heads will never have anything to talk about ever again." The same applies here. All is well in rumble country.

I have a newfound respect for you! Arrested Development was one of the greatest TV shows - ever. Tobias and Gob are the greatest.
P.S. Rumble = Cool

It appears it's now a question of when, not if rumble is gonna be incorporated into the PS3, considering that the PS3 is the only Sony product I ca think of that would use rumble (currently too much added weight and not practical enough for the PSP). Welcome back to the PS3 rumble. I wonder what this means for SplitFish lol.
P.S. I watched Arrested Development too, and it is one of the funniest shows I have ever watched. It's a shame that the show was canceled (damn you Fox!), but at least a movie could be made in the future, which could lead to a future revival of the series.

Not less than a week ago Phil Harrison said rumble was "last gen."
"I believe that the Sixaxis controller offers game designers and developers far more opportunity for future innovation than rumble ever did. Now, rumble I think was the last generation feature; it's not the next-generation feature. I think motion sensitivity is. And we don't see the need to do that. Having said that, there will be specific game function controllers, potentially like steering wheels that do include vibration or feedback function--not from us but from third parties."
FrankTheCrank @ Mar 2nd 2007 2:02PM
I'm psyched. I don't care what Phil Harrison said, rumble is cool to have and I will welcome it.
I'm glad I never bought a second controller and look forward to buying a rumble equipped Sixaxis controller.
Phil, cash is in hand, let's go!
Virtua Fanboy @ Mar 2nd 2007 2:24PM
I hope so. If Sony adds rumble, then MS will add Motion Control. Since they're in a dick measuring contest right now. And then (hopefully) everybody wins!

Arrested Developement was by far my favorite show during its time on the air. I own all three seasons and can't get enough of them. Hilarious.
Anyways, its nice that the PS3 will probably be getting rumble back, but does that mean people have to buy all new $50 controllers? Ouch.

We can sit around all day and talk about Bob Loblog...

"I have R:FoM and Motorstorm Demo, F1 Demo and I can't get the tilt functions to work on any of these games"
Resistance - Single player: Only works when zombies leahc on to you, shake the controller to push them off. Multiplayer: Tilt one way to get a scoreboard, tilt the other to get a map (only if you're human)
Motorstorm - Pause the game you moron, bottom option.

maybe sony could like have ppl trade in their old controllers for new ones with rumble. thatd be cool but very unlikely.
Arno @ Mar 2nd 2007 4:14PM
But, but... rumble is so last-gen!
Sony fanboys... never cease to amaze me.

Arrested development was one of the greatest comedies ever made.
I'm thinking it'll take about a year if not more before we get rumble-enabled controllers. There's still legal stuff to work out, and then R&D.
Hopefully, it'll be similar to the 360's rumble, which is REALLY strong compared to the Dualshock 2s, which is exactly why rumble never impressed me, it was too weak.
And games released before rumble will almost definitely be able to be patched. I suppose games that only run off of the BD-ROM and don't access installed HDD info may not be able to be patched, but we'll see...
ck @ Mar 2nd 2007 4:32PM
Wow. Sony are forbidden from using Immersion tech: "Runble is old news"
Sony and Immersion are happy again: "Rumble is leet and cool".
Quit acting so surprised. It's what marketing people do.
Do you think they were going to come out and say "You can't have rumble because we're having our asses owned in court."? Any marketing person delivering that line to the press would be looking for a new job before the ink dried.

Xbox fanboys never cease to amaze me. The fact that Phil Harrison said that it doesn't mean that fans of playstation agree.
As someone said above, if you expected them to say "we're being sued for that", you have problems that can't be fixed.

They didn't have to say it, everybody already knew but instead of leaving the elephant in the room alone and moving on, they decided to try and pile enough bullshit in front of it so you could see it. Then, tried to spin it as if it was never going in in the first place.
For the record, I hope they put it in because the console can only benefit from it, all fanboy feces flinging aside.
Say what you will about the PS3, but you have to admit that Sony's PR department is a joke at best and if you see otherwise, you REALLY have problems that can't be fixed.
Azorean @ Mar 2nd 2007 9:56PM
Not to long ago Sony Fanboys didn't "need" rumble that it was stupid in comparison to motion sensing and now it's great again! I guess Microsoft and Nintendo had it right from the start!
Killer @ Mar 2nd 2007 10:58PM
Well what do you expect? Microsoft is a software company mostly (say what you will about them) they are still good at getting somethings right. Xbox live is one of them, and that xbox live has been able to grow for years now, helps as well. Sony needs to start focusing on online, becuase it is the future of gaming for consoles. Just think of what console we would have if sony did the hardware for the console and microsoft did the Operating system. That would be the best console ever in my opinion.
rfom @ Mar 3rd 2007 2:28AM
"Microsoft is a software company"
Nope, their software sucks, ever used Windoze in your life? And agree with you about voice chat, but you willing to pay 400 dollars over the 8-year life of the PS3 for voice chat like Live does?
Olle @ Mar 3rd 2007 11:19AM
Arrested development is the funniest tv show ever...
"it's not a trick... it's an ILLUSION"
Killer @ Mar 3rd 2007 10:06AM
@rfom Are you dumb? If no one has ever used windows in their life, then they wouldn't be alive. Seeing that Windows is everywhere on Computers (except macs, and some computers with linux).
Ps. How do you think Microsoft got started? SOFTWARE! They are a Software company, but if you want to say that they aren't sure you can. You would be wrong though. Every single stock broker and buisnessman list them as a Software company, even History does.
Then agian what is the point of talking to you, you're just a blind fanboy and only listens to what a fanboy likes.
Glad to see sony might get rumble back.
bmac @ Mar 3rd 2007 11:30AM
I like the fact that sony didn't include a headset, because then I get to buy whichever one I want out of the hundreds of bluetooth options available. Those that already had headsets for their cell phones didn't have to buy anything. This is something that I feel Sony did right; they made the system open, and it plays well with others. Any bluetooth headset, any number of usb cameras and other accessories, a HD that can be swapped out for a larger one easily by the user...
The support for online and voice chat could be better, but I'm sure it will be. The system, and online, is still in it's infancy, and apparently after next week, we'll be hearing about some huge changes to the online functionality.
Of course, after playing Need for Speed with my headset... I'm not sure I care to hear what everyone has to say while they play. People say a lot that I doubt they would if they were in the same room, or even on a regular phone. It's not offensive, it just makes my brain hurt to listen to some of these idiots.
As for rumble, I'll stand by my meh. Unless a game comes out that is actually that much better because of it, I won't even give new controllers a second thought.
bootsielon @ Mar 3rd 2007 12:40PM
Go rumble!
Killer, you're a dipshit. There ARE people that have never used Windows, some of those people are hungry, infected with AIDS, live in poverty, don't have basic services like energy, phone and a decent source of water, and so on; yet they are still alive. You need to get out of your country a little more.
Anyway, it seems that Sony is getting all their shit together. Even their network service will have things Xbox LIVE doesn't, even when PSNetwork is free. But hey, Microsoft is a software company, I'm sure they'll find a way to come up with something original that isn't an Apple rip-off .
Dirt Diver @ Mar 3rd 2007 3:09PM
It seems the tables have turned Charlie Murphy!!! SMACK!!! lol
OK to me this seems stupid, I wanted rumble but it wasn't a make or break type of thing. I always like options so, If I didn't like it in a game I would turn it off. Good move by Sony I didn't expect that but any added functionality is a plus to me.
Overall I just hope the PS3 continues to make moves in the positive direction. I don't care what stupid marketing people or Sony haters say I have been and will continue to enjoy my PS3.
Oh and Tekken Tag Tourney is FREAKING AWESOME!!! jaggies and all
peace
