Mad Catz brings more controller options to the PS3

If there's one thing that there's no shortage of, it's third-party controllers. I'm constantly amazed at how many folks buy these things to save $5 or $10 bucks. What's the appeal? Lower cost? Different colors? Different industrial design? If you answered "YES" to all of the above, then Mad Catz has a new PS3 controller just for you.
According to our pals at engadget, the new offerings come in wired and wireless models and both feature law-suit inducing SIXSENSE motion control technology. You can choose from a rainbow of options, including red, blue, black, or silver.
Personally, I'm not moving to a new PS3 controller until I find one with the SIXAXIS design, but with a bit more "heft." That thing is lighter than a feather.

I hope Sony releases the boomerang. That one deserved a shot. Maybe that one should be the DualShock 3 (with SixAxiS skills too).

Since Sony and that one company came to an agreement, I'm not buying any other controllers till I get a firm answer about the Duel Shock on the PS3.

I've always felt that the Sony brand controllers, while they're probably the best for quality, are a little on the small side, and could be more ergonomic. The underside of the controller would probably benefit from maybe having slight grooves for your fingers to rest in, and the two arms that extend from the bottom of the sides should be longer....BUT NOT BOOMERANG length. Please Lord, may that controller never been seen by human eyes again.

Why dont they have turbo switches anymore; it would help a ton in games like god of war.

Stef:
You don't have to buy it or see it. There are other people that do want it. That shouldn't bother you.

I haven't used a Sony branded controller in years (was using a Logitech wireless with my PS2), and when I got my PS3 a few weeks ago, I immediately found that it is simply too small for my hands. My hands literally hurt and cramp after playing for 15-20 minutes now. I can't wait for another Logitech controller

infinitespecter, go to raidoshack and buy that PSX to USB. Its for the PC but I tested it for the PS3. From there you plug in the reciever and BooM it works like a charm ;)

@ #9 Can you use any usb controller with the PS3?
Microsoft just released a USB device for the PC so that the Wireless Xbox 360 controller will work on the PC. I wonder if the same device could be used with the PS3. However, I am not sure if the Guide button from an Xbox 360 controller would funtion on the PS3.

One thing that bothers me about the SIXAXIS is that the triggers are hanging out. If the controller is sitting on the couch and you bump it, or if you set it down wrong, it can trigger the triggers (hmmm....) and your movie will start fast forwarding or rewinding. It's really annoying, because you can't really set the controller on the couch...you have to put it out of the way to prevent unwanted "triggerings". It doesn't help that the triggers are convex to begin with.
I'll buy a 3rd party PS3 controller if someone puts the left analog in the same spot as the other two console manufacturers (and it has added rumble support). I'm tired of thumb-bumpin, which never happens on the 360 (move right, look left), and obviously would never happen on the Wii. Thumbs should rest on the main controls; the d-pad hasn't been that for quite a while now.
ShadowHawk01: I have that 360 wireless adapter for the PC, and I'll try it on the PS3 now that you mention it. I seriously doubt it will work for games, although it may work for controlling the menus. If it does work....you can sure bet I'm never using the SIXAXIS again unless motion control is required.
