Mistwalker, the team formed to create
Blue Dragon and
Lost Odyssey for the XBox 360, the team comprising of
Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, have admitted to testing out the PlayStation 3. He admitted this when asked how programming for the 360 stacks up to other consoles. He didn't go any further -- didn't say any games were in development or if he would talk about it later. With the aid of a translator, he did divulge a little bit about programming for Sony's system. He said: "PS3 is difficult". So, maybe we'll see those 360 RPG's on Sony's console eventually anyway. Maybe not. What do you guys make of it?

R @ Mar 7th 2007 4:07PM
I'll go with no on Mistwalker's first 2 games coming to the PS3 considering Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are being published by Microsoft; however, after their Microsoft contract is over, perhaps we'll see some Mistwalker PS3 stuff.
shase @ Mar 7th 2007 4:51PM
i certainly hope so... considering many people (myself included) are considering mistwalker to be MS's bitch right now- and they even said they wanted to be independent thats why they left SE.... If they make next game on ps3 i think my view of them will change... just hope that decision wont piss SE off :p
Djmajin @ Mar 7th 2007 5:05PM
lmao@ 1 that was great i needed that laugh... he looks like a Chuck Norris movie lackey... but he makes great games so hes ok with me

"i certainly hope so... considering many people (myself included) are considering mistwalker to be MS's bitch right now"
If that is the case, then Square-Enix is Sony's bitch. Sure, they are in support of the DS, but it would be stupid not to. Console-wise, the Wii will probably see a lot less than the PS3 from SE. The 360 will probably see even less than that from SE.
Personally, I'm fine with it. If Mistwalker is in greater support of Microsoft, then it keeps the war evened out, which is better for us. As far as I'm concerned, this is only an issue for exclusives; I won't be buying any PS3 versions unless necessary.
Even so, any developer needs to be looking at all the consoles right now. There is no clear winner, just current standings. You could pull that "don't put all your eggs in one basket" cliche if it makes you feel better.
Geoff Gibson @ Mar 7th 2007 5:26PM
I don't think Mistwalker will want to directly compete with Square Enix in theri home market. Look at it like this:
Mistwalker left Square Enix because they wanted to be an independent company making their own RPG games, why would they go back to the Playstation and directly compete with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest when they have an open playground starved for traditional RPGs like the 360?
Mistwalker is in HEAVEN right now. When or if Square Enix starts invading the 360 then we may see a cross over with Mistwalker but until them they just have way to good of a thing going on right now.
vahdyx @ Mar 7th 2007 7:15PM
If mistwalker goes PS3, then I'm getting a PS4, I don't care!
Absolut @ Mar 7th 2007 8:22PM
@7: Maybe because Xbox360 is a failure? Because it can't sell shit in Japan? Because the so hyped Blue Dragon the turning point for M$ in Japan only sold 170k until now? Even by M$ standarts in Japan this is bad...

I dont give a flying (insert favorite swear here) how well it sells in japan, I live in the US... not Japan. As long as it remains dominant in the US I really couldnt care less. And of course Japan is going to support their own company over a US company. To be honest I get bored with Turn based games that are so popular in japan. All I know is that right now its 10 to 1 360 vs Ps3 and 5 to 1 Wii vs Ps3 so stick it fanboy. Im off to play some Rainbow six vegas... have fun waiting a few more months for that... and look forward to a piss poor online experience!
Cheers!

"...As far as I'm concerned, this is only an issue for exclusives; I won't be buying any PS3 versions unless necessary."
I'm the same way SuicideNinja. I went the PS360 this Gen and I don't bother buying the PS3 version of games that are available on both consoles. It's GOOD exclusives that will get my money and I'm not talking about Motorstorm or Virtua Fighter (Virtua fighter was extremely boring without online multiplayer)
"Mist walker left Square Enix because they wanted to be an independent company making their own RPG games, why would they go back to the Playstation and directly compete with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest when they have an open playground starved for traditional RPGs like the 360?"
I agree with that 100%. It would be wise of Myst Walker to stay away from the PS3. There could be a lot of money made on the 360 if they can continue to pump out quality games.
Why develop for the PS3 with competition that sells by name alone when all eyes are on them with "an open playground" all to themselves?

The 360 isn't a failure, get off your fanboy wagon. Barring some sort of miracle the 360 is poised to sell at least 40 million worldwide by the time the next generation of consoles arrive, far from what I'd consider a failure.
Also Japan is not the majority of the gaming market, North America and Europe are larger markets than Japan. Japan is a surprisingly high market for how low its population is in comparison but they are still third overall, so the 360 failing there will not kill the system just like it didn't with the regular Xbox.
Even then the PS3 isn't winning in Japan either, the Nintendo Wii is outselling that system almost 5:1. How can you account for that?
I don't mean to sound so anti-PS3, as I really am not. But when somebody so fanboy-ish, such as you, jumps on rational logic I can't help but throw everything back in your face. Hope you someday see that these mega-corporations don't give two-shits for your loyalty and that the only reason why you should buy a console is if you honestly want what they are offering.
Thank you and good night.
Absolut @ Mar 8th 2007 4:02AM
@10: You may not give a shit about Japan but a company that does jrpgs and is made of japanese people, you can bet your ass they give a shit... Sure i don't mind waiting some months more for good games, at least i know they will come and i know that by 4 years from now i still will be getting good games, so any good games for Xbox this year? maybe some God of War 2? Any Yakuza 2? Oh sorry that huge piece of shit is dead for what? 2 years now? Have fun playing Halo 3 till 2011...
@12: Yeah, sorry. The Xbox360 isn't a failure, he is almost getting kicked in the balls by the so bashed, no good games PS3 but he is not failing... My fanboy-ish ass? I never said "THE PS3 OWN YOU ALL", i've just said why Mistwalker might do something for PS3, you are the one going fanboy here and you are the one blinded by it, you are telling me the Xbox wasn't a failure? It sold only 24million units worldwide, M$ didn't get any profit from it, in my world when you spend huge somes of money on something and don't get even half of it back it's called a failure... The 360 is poised to sell? Lol. The best argument ever, and btw only 40million units for a hardware with one year headstart on the competition, for me that means failure... Europe will be the best selling place for PS3 until now so that means the 360 is getting kicked in the balls in Japan and in Europe and soon in NA... I really don't care how much any of them sells and i know none of these mega-corporations give a shit about me, you were the one jumping into it...
January 2007 NA Sales:
1.Wii: 485,000
2.PS2: 338,250
3.360: 332,250
4.PS3: 275,500
And about the Wii, why don't we compare hyundai sales with ferrari sales? Or PS2 sales with Xbox360 sales?
The Wii is cheap, new and the most hyped piece of hardware ever, of course it's going to sell a lot, the thing is, for how long?
ps: sorry about my english :P
rfom @ Mar 8th 2007 8:03AM
"I dont give a flying (insert favorite swear here) how well it sells in japan, I live in the US"
Who gives a flying (insert favorite swear here) where you stay?
Good xbot logic to twist the issue. Which is: All that noise about MGS4 coming to 360 but fact is that there is better chance of Mistwalker coming to PS3. Why? You provided the reason.
"I get bored with Turn based games that are so popular in japan."
I bet you get bored with ANYTHING other than alien shooting games.
Blue dragon flopped so badly in japan
Why?
The console.
solution:
Go to the console better better known for JRPGs
"Im off to play some Rainbow six vegas... have fun waiting a few more months for that... and look forward to a piss poor online experience!"
PS3 owners get free zero-lag MP
You get multiplayer for USD200/4 years
pawned
Daniel Lawson @ Mar 8th 2007 9:15AM
Please? Lag free? I'd like to see that someday in that fake world you live in so why don't you invite me over there someday :-)
Darko @ Mar 8th 2007 9:21AM
@rfom
Ok wow what a fanboy comment.... "I bet you get bored with ANYTHING other than alien shooting games." First, whats PS3s top selling game.... Resistance fall of man??? anyway no I like all sorts of games and even some turn based I just dont like playing the same game for 80 hrs because i have to battle every little piss ant that walks by. The only shooters I own for 360 are Gears of war, Rainbow six and CoD2, I love Dead Rising, Burnout, DOA 4 is fun, etc etc. I could go into my other systems as well but I have lab here in a few minutes.
Second, I bet you have a WOW account dont you... Im sure you do... That only costs a shit ton per year to play. Having a unified system such as XBL you have much more support for developers, which means games like virtua fighter which i guess lacks online play for the ps3 would most likely have online play on a system with a well defined online service. I mean I know I didnt waste 700+ bucks (after tax),... yet, on my console so i guess paying that two hundred dollars over 4 years is nothing ... honestly thats a freking drop in the bucket...do you know what cable tv, internet, gas, electricity cost per month, I bet you dont. You get what you pay for... Im sure once sony gets their heads out of their collective ass and develop something comperable to XBL they'll start charging for it. I used to complain about XBL gold not being free but to be honest Since I got an account, free headset, and free camera, I couldnt care less about the 50 bucks for 13 months. And it came with 2 free arcade games. oh and zero lag my ass people have crap connections that cant be avoided with any online service...
Stick it fan boy.
Virtua Fanboy @ Mar 8th 2007 10:04AM
You know, it's kind of funny. I think most Xbox people will agree. Most of the time we defend Xbox Live because well, it is a better online service. Period, done, THE END. I'm sorry but it's not a matter of personal opinion.
But, when it comes that time of year when we gotta anny up $50 then it's like man this fucking blows. Then after you take care of all of it you back to defending it again, LOL.
Personnally I can't wait for the day that PS Network becomes parrallel to XBL because they are gonna have to offer it (XBL) for free or at a discounted rate.
Naaiif @ Mar 8th 2007 10:27AM
Well since MS published both of Mistwalkers Blue Dragon and Lost Oddysey i don't think we'll be seeing either of those games on the ps3. If they're testing out the ps3's hardware, and plan to make a game, it'll be a totally new IP - which is good news right?
Oh and it's not heaven failing to sell units of your game on a console. Mistwalker aren't owned by MS, Blue Dragon and Lost Oddysey ARE. Mistwalker can do what they like, when they like, and tbh if Blue Dragon had been on the ps3, well both the amount of units they sold and the Playstation 3 units sold would have been considerably more.
The next game they may or may not make for ps3 will be a new game, and it'll more than likely be a test for the ps3 market. If it sells well, and sells better than Blue Dragon and Lost Oddysey does, then i think Mistwalker will continue to make games for ps3. If not they'll stick to 360 - whatever.
Xhibition @ Mar 8th 2007 12:57PM
So much for Mistwalker doing a PS3 project after this. Just two days ago Mistwalker on stage asked a head Microsoft employee if they could do an MMORPG for the 360 & they got a refreshing yes. Which means they'll be busy until AT LEAST 2009 on the 360. Who knows whether or not they even started plugging away on what they want to create so bound to Microsoft or not PS3 love'll have to wait.
shase @ Mar 8th 2007 1:11PM
@19
That may be true BUT they can work on several games simultaneously and have done that. So it doesnt neccessarily rules out the game for PS3. Now I wonder how it will impact the decision of SE making MMORPG for 360? Will SE make it exclusive to PS3 to combat it?
