PSP2 definitely coming?
Kotaku seems to think so. In a news post today they stated that various third party highly placed sources definitively confirm that the PSP2 is on the way (though it won't look like this). Apparently, third party publishers want to have games ready for the PSP2's launch, but Sony hasn't yet given them the kind of info they need to start creating games. This isn't a strange practice as with any system, the first party companies get the dev kits and system specs first, but hopefully they don't wait too long to send out that info. The rumor is that clear info on the PSP2 will hit at this year's E3 with a possibility of the system launching as early as the end of this year.
The system is said to have a beautiful screen (no change there), faster load times, better buttons, 8 gig internal flash, UMD support, and the possibility of a touch-screen and built-in camera. Kotaku didn't list their source specifically (why would they, no one wants to lose a job), but they were right about Sony's Home, so there's always a possibility this rumor will hold true as well. I personally think it's too early for a PSP2, but if it supports my old games I'd definitely upgrade.

Funny how this comes right after GDC, where Sony banned Kotaku from all their meetings. When kotaku does retarded shit like this, I can understand why Sony would want to avoid them. Didn't a Sony official just recently say there was definitely no psp2 coming anytime soon?
Pawsie @ Mar 13th 2007 12:00AM
I just bought a psp.... I won't be happy if thye made another one.
Saigon @ Mar 13th 2007 12:06AM
I stand corrected, Sony and Kotaku worked things out, and Sony reinvited them.
HATER3000! @ Mar 13th 2007 1:02AM
Hey no credit?.Isnt the first time Pspfanboy.
Anyway that didnt helped as much as i wanted,it seems we have to wait to the E3 to see if its HOAX.
Anyway The Kotaku staff arent always right (Silent hill canned anyone?).
Kotaku is a site full of doubts and cake photos(wassup with that.)but when they have confirmation from other sources its kind of believeable.
phatinc @ Mar 13th 2007 1:19AM
Now all we need is for sony to allow use to trade in our old psp and either get it upgraded or pay less to switch...less than eb
Ripcord83 @ Mar 13th 2007 2:22AM
they arent try to get an early start on april fools are they?
cool if its true though.
Semiel @ Mar 13th 2007 4:34AM
It would be like 1,5-2 yrs off from now wouldnt it?
That feels ok, but otherwize I agree its too early...
Mike @ Mar 13th 2007 4:49AM
A Magic 8 Ball has more credibility than Kotaku when it comes to PSP2 news.
TwinsanityNtranced @ Mar 13th 2007 10:05AM
Hmm Well I can say that this is all Overhype
PSP2 is something that wont be coming for a long time
I mean seriously the PS3 was built for PSP connectivity and PSP is only less than 2 years old
that would be BS
for one thing Inbuilt cam? touchscreen?
Inbuilt flash RAM? that would make the PSP Even more expensive than it already is..
i think the PSP2 will be something that will come out when PS3's had it's run..
moosey @ Mar 13th 2007 10:20AM
the 8gb drive suggests downloadable games coming soon, sweet.
phantic i doubt you could just exchange it for full price (200$) and get the better one, sony didnt do that with the ps2 slimline, nintendo didnt with the ds/ds lite. its not like this is a whole new psp, just a resdesign.
zjoe @ Mar 13th 2007 10:36AM
Kotaku are a bunch of assholes to come up with a rumor like this without even referencing a source. Great journalism there.
So basically they can come off saying any shit they like and then attribute it all to some unnamed source. But unlike normal journalist Kotaku didn't even indicate their source prefered to remain nameless. And Sony will probably eventually release a revised PSP to reduce the cost of the system, not increase the cost with the added shit Kotaku's 'reliable source' has revealed.

Awesome , Il be first in line for this . It seams that my money savings for a new PSP wherent for nothing ;)
Tristan @ Mar 13th 2007 11:46AM
WE may all have to bite the bullet, it is clearly obvious that a company would look to revamp something it has physically or even technologically. It will come sooner or later.
san @ Mar 13th 2007 3:26PM
Way too early. 2007 and half of 2008 will be all about getting the PS3 through its launch and then first holiday shopping season while widely available. Sony won't divert resources to releasing a PSP2 until PS3 is well entrenched in the console market.
zts @ Mar 13th 2007 3:54PM
this is so stupid i mean its too early besides there is lots of things for the psp we aint got the gps the chotto shot camera new colors they might make a psp2 when the psp still could be added on too
txa1265 @ Mar 13th 2007 4:42PM
Re #14 - very good point. Doing *anything* that takes attention from their flagship product would be stupid right now. Besides which, releasing something now would be taken in some circles as an admission that their first gen product failed against the DS. And unless there was complete backward compatibility there would be outcry from PSP owners.
Sony is already the most hated game company, and they don't need to do anything to make the situation worse.
rakizta77 @ Mar 15th 2007 7:18PM
oh scrap... i just bought my PSP... never knew SONY wud release the so-called "PSP2"... i just wish SONY would allow us to trade-in our PSP's for a PSP2 to make the price lower... this is BS!!! now i'll have to save money again...
Sony... stop disappointing your customers... i just wish they beleive in karma...
Ian @ Apr 25th 2007 10:43PM
psp2 is coming?
DtotheK @ Jun 15th 2007 1:12PM
It is going to be released in conjunction with GTA:SAS
and Ridge racer 3 and farcry for the PSP.
It wont have a touchscreen
Improved buttons is a 2nd analogue stick
It's camera will swivel vertically like the sony clié
It's thinner than the current psp
I like the current psp and DS but this next one will rule from what i've seen!!
Jie @ Nov 26th 2007 1:31AM
Is the new psp2000 "the" psp2? the rumors in early 2007 clearly verify a thinner change and silver case.
