PS3 rumble? Confirmed!
At least one Sony developer has confirmed that the PlayStation brand will again be home to vibrating controllers. Yep, rumble is back and headed into the next batch pf PS3 games...According to our sister-site, engadget, "God of War 3 for PS3 will be 1080p and, more importantly, have vibration (aka rumble, aka force feedback, aka what Sony's been making piss-poor excuses for not having in the PS3 for quite some time)."
The confirmation brings up more questions than it answers: How will this impact battery life? How much will we have to shell out for a new set of controllers? When will all of this start hitting stores?

As long as it's Immersion's next generation TouchSense(http://www.immersion.com/gaming/video_pc/next-gen/), and not the crappy spinning motors.

Shouldn't you be citing the original source (1up) rather than your sister site?

It brings up another question with an answer. Who friggin cares about a vibrating joystick? I don't. I hate that feature and usually go looking for a way to turn it off. It is very annoying.

Seriously guys, enough with the whole "But Sony said rumble is last gen!" crap. For starters what do you really expect a company in their position to say? "Yeah, we know everyone wants it, but we're getting sued."? Second, the comment was that rumble as we know it today is "last gen", which, seeing as it's been the same since... 1998, is kind of fair. I've always thought that there was a lot of room for improvement when it came to rumble. The haptic technology that it looks like they're going to end up implementing is significantly different from the rumble we're used to. Comparatively, the old rumble technology of having two motors spin will/does seem somewhat... outdated.

Zhiwai, I think those guys were being sarcastic.

Some how I REALLY doubt Harrison meant "Rumble is last gen (in it's previous form. In actuality rumble is current when we implement it with different technology that creates a similar sensation to rumble, yet with enough differences to be considered current gen)."

Yesss!!! I would obviously prefer some advanced rumble\ff but even if it was only the "last gen" standard that would be good enough for me. I think rumble is a huge addition to any game as long as its used well and varies throughout the game eg.light rumbling when something is about to collapse then heavy rumble when it does, light rumble when an object of interest is in range then heavy rumble when your right on it... not just heavy rumble all the time etc.
I dont understand why people hate it but there always seems be the option to turn it off so stop whining! Why should us rumble lovers be denied? WHY I ask you WHY GOD DAMN IT? ;D

With regard to battery life:
My Logitech wireless PS2 controllers with rumble can play 50 hours with rumble, and 300 without on 2 AA batteries. If there isn’t enough power for the rumble anymore, it switches off and there’s still like 100 hours of battery life left.
These are the official specs and I’m sure they’re a little exaggerated, but not much. And, if I may say so, with that it does a lot better than the SIXAXIS. I’m getting that stupid recharge warning way too often.
Well, at least I don’t have to buy new batteries every few months like with my Logitech controllers. Better for the environment, I’m sure.

Maybe it's just me and my wacky sense of logic, but how can you confirm features for an unconfirmed game that the director flat out said hasn't even been started yet?

Well genius, maybe it's because everyone already knew that they were being sued. It was no secret, yet Sony spent a lot of time taking the piss out of the other 2 consoles that DID have rumble. Now, it's all WE HAVE RUMBLE!! Like they just got struck with the idea and how great it is to have it included. Mind you this is 6 days after Phil Harrison stood on a stage pontificating on how "last gen" rumble is.
