Second Life developers say: PS-HOME is very flattering
And for the record, no they didn't ask Sony if they wanted to hook up at a bar that night "IRL" (that's In Real Life for the innocent out there). We've covered the other consoles angles about the announcement of PS-HOME, but until now we neglected to see what Second Life thought of it, since HOME bear a strong resemblance to that... uh... "service".Jeff Luan of Linden Lab (developers of SL) said that "mimicry is the greatest form of flattery for us." For them, yes. Thought the cliché went a little differently, but it's probably just a synonym or something. Luan isn't concerned about HOME taking away any of Second Life's users, since SL is on PC and is targeting an entirely different "market". Absolutely true, but it may create a similar market on consoles that was previously not in existence. Are any of you concerned that the PS-HOME may become something much... hmm... darker, than intended?

Don't forget, SL had LSL (Linden Scripting Language), I don't know if HOME has anything remotley like that - correct me if I'm wrong though...

A lot of the stuff about Sony lately reminds me of two quotes I hear a lot as a designer;
Good artists copy. Great artists steal — Picasso
It is better to be good than to be original — Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
Truth is, many great accomplishments were made by standing on the shoulders of others. The fact that Sony is taking the good and making it better is fine by me since we're the ones getting the better.

Ok I keep hearing its a second life clone, but nobody has explained this....to be a second life clone do you have to have realistic human characters in an online community???? I mean come on, u cant group your friends in second life to play ps3 games. Its just stupid that people on the net everywhere are so eager to say its a second life clone, but cannot backup the similarities.....and if they are similar in look more than what the service does then people are just hating on the ps3 pricetag still....poor bastards go play the wii.

Um, yeah, so the folks at Linden wrote Neuromancer and Snow Crash? Those books described exactly this sort of environment years before.

it is a compliment to say it is a sims or second life clone.

I'm pretty sure the first "A/S/L" will cause a large group of PS3 owners from ever using sony home again...
And the developers of second life probably know this.
