Analyst #198744365 says: PS3 will blast rivals away in Europe
To answer your question, yes, we really did count every analyst up to this point. What do you think we do in our off-time anyway? In all seriousness, The Times have released an article stating this fun point: "Sony is expected to sell up to 1.5 million of its PlayStation 3 consoles in Britain this year, putting it on track to outstrip Nintendo's cheaper Wii within 12 to 18 months of its launch." Hmm, in all of Europe, sure, but in the world? Maybe not so much. But perhaps it will apply to the whole world. Anaylst Nick Parker from Screen Digest said this about the PS3's launch and expected sales: "The lack of shortage is supply driven; what Sony has shipped will sell. We estimate that Sony will sell around 4 million units in Europe this year, with 1 to 1.5 million in the UK." Well, that's a pretty noble target to be estimating. Not that we take these guys' word as law, but do you think this is a plausible outcome? Will the PS3 sell over 6 million units before year's end?

Well as a owner of PS3 i hope it doesnt flop in Europe... if it flops then more exclusives will be going to 360 and that is kinda bad for Sony and PS3 owners. I am hoping that Singstar will drive a lot of sales when it comes out since Europeans are very addicted to that game.
Sony shouldve released in Europe sooner though since there's no doubt they have lost customers due to the long wait and the price is a bit high too. I guess we shall see the news in a few days...

6 Million worldwide by the end of 07 is attainable.
Even if sales in the US stay at 130K/month, it will still put the US over 2M. Add 1M from the UK and Japan only leaves 2M for Europe.

What analysts fail to understand is that video games sell systems, (not track records) something the PS3 is lacking. I suspect they'll hit their sales targets once MGS4, or FFXIII comes out, but not before.

So far the most frequent complaint is the price.
In Euroland, it's gonna cost anywhere from %130 to %150 more than the already "too expensive" $600.
Yeah, it's gonna make a killing.

The idea that the PS3 will outsell the Wii in Europe is laughable. The Wii has more demand in Europe than in the US. At least in the US, people can get in lines at stores two hours before they open, get handed vouchers and hour before open, and have a chance at getting a Wii. In Europe, many people who want to pay for a Wii right now haven't even been able to see one.
The PS3 should sell more right at launch than the Wii did, since they waited 4 months for stock to pile up where it is currently unwanted (Japan and America) but there's no reason to suspect it will outsell the Wii in Europe this year.
It's not unreasonable to suspect that it will be several more months at shipping 1 million Wiis per month before the voucher system is finally over and the gamers who have been saying, "I will buy one when I see it in stores" will finally get a chance. There are more people willing to buy the Wii right now but unwilling to wait in line than there are people willing to wait in line. I suspect Nintendo will have *sold* 12 million units by the end of August with their increased production, and demand will still not have been met.

Rumor: Microsoft to buy Take Two. That would be the end of the Grill...

I can't see why everyone likes the wii, my sister has one and it's a terribly gimmicky system with a lot of bad games and only one great game - zelda (which was a complete let down from OoT). But i have to disagree with these analysts, the wii is going to sell a hell of a lot more than the ps3 in it's first year, europe, us, japan it doesn't matter - demand is high and it shows no sign of stopping.

DS is just a GBA with a gimmicky control scheme, and the PSP is so powerful that it failed.

Ok...6 million by the end of the year should be a given. I recall sony saying that they would ship 6 million by the end of march. Nintendo said the same thing and seems like they did it, if not coming very close to that number. Sony needs Europe to sell so they make it seem like they are selling out. If the Europe launch doesn't sell well, I don't know. They might have to fire their whole marketing firm.
It seems to me like Sony must have known that it would take some time before the consumer would be prepared to shell out so much money in the first place for an "entertainment" device. However, since the life cycle of the ps2 was so long, they have a lot of time to make an impact.
