Demand for PS3 is "phenomenal"
This is in reference to the European demand, mind you. We know there are some PS3's on shelves in the US of A and Japan. GAME marketing director Anna Marcario said that "The customer reaction to the arrival of the Sony PlayStation 3 really has been nothing short of phenomenal. With a huge range of titles available for launch and having so much more functionality than any other game console, our customers can't wait to get their hands on this incredible machine." Oh, we should mention that although seven titles have been delayed, there are still close to 30 titles available upon launch.
Keep in mind also that GAME is no longer having a midnight launch party, out of safety concerns brought about by the local policing forces. The store will open up at 7AM, but only for the first 150 people who pre-ordered the system. Apparently. They get a yummy breakfast and Sony goodie bags. Everyone else can get in around 9AM.

Nice - The PlayStation brand has been a household name in Europe ever since the PlayStation was released. I believe most of these purchasers are simply excited about the advent of Sony's new console (as opposed to the so-so lineup of launch titles). Hopefully they will sell phenomenally across the pond, encouraging quicker game development (read: more games, faster), and perhaps a price drop? We'll see... Apparently Europeans aren't too upset by the dropping of the EE chip either. Can't wait to see what happens.

dint GAME mention some time ago that only 2/3'rds of its PS3 pre-orders had been filled ? or was it 3/4'ths ? either way im sure sony has something to do with them making such a statement now.......

To my European friends:
Ignore all of the negative (or positive) BS that is on this site, Joystiq, or any of the others. Here is the fact: If you buy one, you will be happy. I bought one because it is a Blu Ray player that is cheap. Then I bought Motorstorm. It is awesome. Then I bought Oblivion. It is mind blowing. The games are just extra amenities that come with my full featured Blu Ray player. I ran an HQV test on the player itself. It performed better than many $700+ HD Upconverting DVD players that I've tested, and its not upconverting yet. $600 dollars is an absolute bargain for a Blu Ray player right now. Oh yeah, it has a couple of good games out too. I think more are coming but I'll worry about that after I watch Eragon in 1080p. I've copied the new season of Southpark on the drive, as well as all of my music. It is truly a piece of equipment for the high end home theater enthusiast, not a 16 year old that makes seven dollars an hour. I own all three new systems, I love them all, but my PS3 gets most of the attention due to its media abilities. So ignore all of the bad press, pick one up if you want a Blu Ray player. The rest comes later.

The system is very nice. Movies look and sound great. Games are fantastic. To all those opposed... well.

So then, the PS3 launch in Europe should be considered the best launch for any game system anywhere... 30 games a launch... not bad...

One problem for me, no Gears of War. Also, the online component isn't up to par yet, I have a PS3 and its collecting dust at the moment.
I'm not so into the High-Def movies so I'm satisfied with regular DVD, I mean eventually doesn't the quality reach a point where its good enough?

We do not pay $600 we pay £836.34 ($1,645.79) according to current exchange rates. THAT is not cheap, especially compared to $600

Hmm very interesting. I guess we will see how much is PR hot air in a few days. For a laugh though and a bad indicator for sony, look at the Virgin launch event photos at UK Resistance:

Wow, 30 launch titles. Amazing, not really seeing that the games were out before the console ever was launched in europe. It's nice, but not amazing. I mean would it be amazing if microsoft waited till now to launch the 360 in europe? It would have like what 100 or so launch titles? I wouldn't even be amazed by that either. If it was the TRUE First launch, yes I would be amazed.

@ Justin: "It is truly a piece of equipment for the high end home theater enthusiast"
The PS3 is so obviously NOT designed for the home theatre enthusiast it is laughable. If SCEE had taken the time to meet with their own people(the ones that design their TV's and other electronics), the PS3 wouldn't be missing an IR receiver or the ability to scale Blu-Ray movies to 720p. These features exist on Sony's own standalone Blu-Ray player, so there's no excuse for them not to be included on the PS3. /rant

I got a PS3 off ebay for $340 and I love it.
I mean for 340 its the greatest ever.
and lets face it, it will always have some support, Sony is too giant off a company to colapse like Sega
