Wow. I hope that somehow pulls together in some way, but right now it just looks like the sort of advertising that creatives put together to try and win awards from other creatives.
I know threespeech is apparently the semi-official blog or whatever; any chance they can get a hold of someone at Sony's ad agency that's doing these to find out what the rational behind this stuff is? The american ads were odd enough, but these are just too much.

I'm a big a sony fan as the next but seriously WTF ROFLMAO!!!! XD!!! And I loved the ending, too...
Charl3z523 @ Mar 21st 2007 11:35PM
God, I really do love these ads for some reason.
Cheezedog420 @ Mar 21st 2007 11:27PM
Not that I can many any sence of this ad either... but the blond at the end on the toilet is a nice classy touch... Im suprized I did not hear the sound of something hitting the water just before she flushed.
Tesley @ Mar 22nd 2007 1:52AM
what the hell was that
Dave @ Mar 22nd 2007 2:17AM
That is, without question one of my favorite ads of all time.
I'm kind of surprised that someone's got to explain this here: but this is what's going on. On the base level of the commercial, Sony is defining their system as the next great story-teller.
I guess I'm a little offended by the "creatives" comment listed first though. But, then again, we DO have better taste.

"Somehow, Sony's "this is living" campaign sinks lower and lower with every reveal."
Sure can't wait till we get those new writers in! It's kinda obvious when an x-bot writes for ps3fanboy!
John @ Mar 22nd 2007 2:27AM
This was hilarious. Sony is taking some big risks here. I was laughing out loud, knowing that they're going to succeed. If you only play FPS games and don't read any books, and know nothing about art, and barely graduated high school, you might not get this. For you, we have... Microsoft... For the rest of you, who did your homework and read your books and wrote poetry about girls and then read bizarre art and philosophy treatises, for you, we have...
The whole point of this, is that it's funny. If you didn't laugh, you shouldn't be reading comments on ps3fanboy. You should go back to that fan that's blowing the backside of your rich white-boy's player, and getting ready for another fragfest!
Now be sure, when you play the game, to say something war-like and criminal to your fellow players.
That way, we'll know how 'tough' you are.

John:
Ed Stasick did write for Xbox 360 fanboy.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Mar 22nd 2007 4:41AM
@John...
You know, while I was drawing figures in art school, there was always a fine line between anatomy and style. If you knew anatomy but stylized it, people could see that. If you didn't do your homework and tried to fudge your way through anyway, people could see that, too. At least, the experienced people could.
This ad reminds me of the people that claimed they were using style, but didn't have a clue. I've seen drunken improv better than this crap.
Is the whole point of art NOT to define your priorities?
Zta @ Mar 23rd 2007 2:44AM
I LIKE IT!
Alecks @ Mar 22nd 2007 9:37AM
These commercials are crazy but looks like something one of my best friends would do. ( this is not a good thing) I want to know if the guy in the bath tub is the samurai from the last samurai...I would sure like a bar of chocolate, and the girl is flushing away a bar of chocolate, ewwwwwwmmmmmm :D
maverick_saturn_626 @ Mar 22nd 2007 9:40AM
You know what? I take back everything I said about Sony ads, as stupid they may be, I can remember every single one for its stupidity and sheer quirkiness, the Squirrels, the balls of dust, this one, the evil baby, the eggs, every single one, its like the 118 118 ads over here, I remember all of them because of how much they annoy me.
And you know whats strange, someone please refresh my memory of some 360 ads as the only ones I can recall at the moment is the water balloon one and the baby being shot from the mother's womb from ages ago. Its not that I am a fanboy and only remember adverts that apply to my console of choice, because I find Sony adverts stupid beyond belief, its that I tend to remember stupid adverts moreso then good adverts, simply because stupid adverts annoy me so much, especially if they keep coming on every few minutes.
I think this sort of weird advert catches more attention then the small giggle you get from a baby being shot, when this ad came onto TV, everyone of my family went quiet to look at how stupid it was. Then a covosation went on afterwards about what the ad had to do with PS3, more then that of funny or interesting clips like that of PS2's or Xbox ones. I think with the PS2 or Xbox 360 clips, you are more concerned with the advert then the console or game except for Gameplay clips which may tempt you to buy the individual game.
If you look at any site, there is more convosation about PS3 ads then there is of Wii ads or 360 ads, and in case you didnt know, there is a degree of controversy and publicity in this. Stupid as the adverts may be, they certainly have the internet talking.
Andrew Baisden @ Mar 22nd 2007 1:50PM
its like apples famous super bowl ad. it is so "unique" that you rember and you think of the ps3
seedaripper @ Mar 24th 2007 3:36PM
i think the american ads were 'dumbed' down..get my drift???
anyhow david lynch (great maverick director)did the original PS2 ads-remember?
i have always liked sony marketing strategy, and these series of ads don't reek of 'lets play catch up'
ala micosoft ;)
keep em coming...they're clever, smart and well directed (and if you look CLOSELY appropriate to the subject matter)
but hey...im english and were all arrogant ;)
