If you haven't gotten it already, the latest firmware update for the PS3 has been released. The things in the update have been talked about for a long, long time, so we almost don't feel the need to list them. But we'll hit the big points anyway.
In addition to those, the remote play functionality with the PSP has changed
remained the same.
While rumors suggested that upon the update, the PSP will connect to the PS3 at any WiFi hotspot, that has been denied us once again. Perhaps in summer, next to all those other big updates we can't really think to mention? Which features are you still waiting for Sony to give to us? [

Does this update disable the Emotion hardware in the US PS3's? That was rumored to be true and I've never seen it confirmed or denied.

The ability to have the system not automatically launch a game when the system logs-in (yes I know if you don't have your account auto-login it doesn't do this) But if they did it on the PSP, they should do it on the PS3.
OH and the ability to communicate with a PC/Mac to transfer files (music, videos, pics) without having to load a second OS with Windows on it. Just pay microsoft the royalties for the media center extender!

Non-gimped background downloading makes me a very happy man!
I'm annoyed about the fakeout with Remote Play though. Also, where are the little features like changable backgrounds and the ability to make freaking folders for your media?
Still, I guess I can't complain. It took microsoft until June to add background downloading, so Sony is doing a good job of busting out the firmware updates.

Both of those are supported. The second one since the first firmware.

*PS 1-2 legacy games
Also, not really sure I like the fact that they are now using software emulation and not actual hardware for legacy games. I have a PS3 with EE hardware inside and feel alot better about it bringing compatibility to my legacy games.

The very first thing on the list background downloading (of games & such) while playing games, is mostly about games.
You asked about slideshow settings and backgrounds which have nothing to do with gaming.

I REALLY doubt that they'd disable the emotion engine. There's no reason for them too.
The hardware solution works better than the software solution, and the hardware is ALREADY THERE, so disabling it would just complicate things. It wouldn't save them any money at all, and would lessen the functionality of the system. Seems REALLY dubious that they'd do it.
Now, in the future, I fully expect new PS3s to ship without the emotion engine. But for now, I think you're safe.

How about the occasional Blue Tooth Sync issue that makes me drive off cliffs in Motorstorm because my controller is not responding? This does not seem like a BIG SPRING FIRMWARE UPDATE. Maybe there is another coming soon? Fingers crossed.

GAME upscaling is the big one for me.
since my tv is a 480 or 1080 one, I would rather see the 720 version scaled up than the 480.
especially now that I find oblivion is only 720..

I want Sony to release a PC/MAC program that lets you stream content to the PS3 while in the XMB menu. It would list things like the RSS reader on PSP.
I also want to be able to listen to music and do other things on XMB while Folding.
Oh and the major thing we need is the ability to access the XMB while in game. That way we can listen to custom soundtracks, jump back and forth between the web and a game, and read/send messages.

ok i dont understand this
modem-wireless router-ps3-remote play-psp this is a wireless local area network -select conection-belking54.the psp work on MY WLAN but it doesnt work on a mall.
is this te only way the NEW remote play works or i can go to other country and access via any starbucks(wi fi zone or hostspot or access point)

- is that why my Speed Blu-ray disc gives an "error" to my (nothing-impressive) HTIB Panasonic Receiver? I don't get sound once the movie starts.

I have a 50" samsung 1080P DLP TV. I would like to see them add an option for widescreen 16:9 TV's for when browsing there internet browser. All webpages are set to standard unless you zoom in. It would make a better viewing experience. (Like on new widescreen laptops for exapmple) Also the ability to create folders on the PS3, and have MP3/WMA music playback in games. Being able to browse to your ps3 over a network and copy files to it would be nice as well, instead of DL 3rd party software like red kawa or something else to do it. And the big thing would be DVD upscaling for sure. Other than that im happy with my PS3 :)

Any one else having a problem with the 20gig remote play? There is a huge huge delay when using it. And how are you able to get the PS3 to communicate with a PC without third party software? As in able to just transfer files between the two wirelessly

Did someone say Sony should buy Take 2? You do realize that if a company were going to purchase Take 2, it would be Microsoft. They have a lot more available cash than Sony does to make such a purchase. If that happened though, it would signal the end of PS3. PS2 was king because of the GTA games. The same would happen for PS3 or 360 if they had the GTA games exclusively.
