Virtua Tennis 3 PS3 vs. Xbox 360
You'll really need to watch the HD version of this to make an honest assessment, but you'll be able to see some of the more obvious (and consistent) differences in the video above. The biggest differentiator seems to be that the PS3 gives a brighter, higher-contrast image (some will call it "washed out"). While both versions look fantastic, the definitive answer to which one looks better is going to be down to some personal taste (or pride) as they are nearly identical. With multi-platform games, it's looking likely that the "better" version will be determined by controls and exclusive content, not graphics.

It pisses me off that this game doesnt have online for PS3. what were they thinking...
rfom @ Mar 25th 2007 2:21PM
It pisses me off that everyone criticises PS3 for missing online in 2-3 games or the lack of some features vs Live...
but completely omit the fact that 360 online costs USD50 / Y,
which means, over 4 years, costs of 360 = cost of PS3. Despite just 12 GB, no HD, no wifi, hardly any decent XBOX1 games, no HDMI.
Would you trade online in VF5 for 80% lower space, No BR, HDMI or wifi and near-zero backward compat for PS2 games?

If the real "power" of the PS3 isn't reflected in the games (ie. games) and both systems have basically the same games....what's the purpose of buying a PS3 other than Blu-Ray...which Microsoft will most likely support.
Kenneth H. @ Mar 25th 2007 2:37PM
I meant (ie. graphics)...but I guess if PS3 is producing the same graphics 3 months out as 360 does a year out....thas a good look

I usually always lean towards the PS3 versions of games just to give some love but the lack of online support vs. the 360 version sold me the other way this time around. The PS3 is awesome, I just wish when games come out on both consoles they really would have the same online features. Great game by the way.

" I meant (ie. graphics)...but I guess if PS3 is producing the same graphics 3 months out as 360 does a year out....thas a good look"
Except that to get the graphics on par they had for forgo development time on other features, like full online play, tournments, virtua tennis tv etc. Lets not beat around the bust it makes it 1/2 the game

Those gametrailer comparisons are BS. If you compare a game you have played on your properly adjusted high-def TV to what you see in those videos, you'll quickly realize how far from 'reality' the footage is. That goes for BOTH systems.
I don't know how they capture the footage, but something they do causes stuff to look really wonky. The PS3 versions always looked much more 'washed out' than they do in reality, and the 360 stuff tends to look much darker and with too much contrast than they do in reality.
I have both a PS3 and a 360 hooked up to a 1080P 52" tv, and you just can't trust the gametrailer comparisons.

Also, all the talk about realistic graphics but the faces are all plasticky....
Frankenstein Black @ Mar 25th 2007 4:25PM
I put the owness squarely on the shoulders of those lazy game devs that simply develop for the lowest common denominator platform and then lazily "port up instead of developing to a platform's strengths. "F" em! and don't think we aren't watching, lazy "A" holes!

Hows the online multiplayer on the PS3?
random @ Mar 26th 2007 3:47AM
go look at the Oblivion side by side on gametrailers.com
the 360 suffers from effects popping onto the screen and in-game loading. Also the PS3 version has more detail on the characters.
Max @ Mar 26th 2007 6:46AM
@14, Bethesda had a lot more time to work on Oblivion for the PS3, and they even said that they will be including a patch to bring the updates to the 360. Good luck getting those expansions packs on your PS3 though ^.^
biggmax @ Mar 26th 2007 6:48AM
@14 Bethesda is bringing to updates they applied in the PS3 version to the 360. Sucks for you not having any expansion packs though, I'm gonna go play some ^.^

PS3 is delivering graphics like Xbox 360 within 4 months (even brighter) so you can tell what is the power difference under the hood. Xbox 360 is good on its own buy when compare to PS3 then its just okay. Poor XBox 360 cries always "No need of 1080P, No need of HDMI" and the bastared is doing the same thing (not now then soon) what a Hypocrite and Copy cat and the only reason XBox 360 don't have internal HD-DVD because Xbox 360 knows there is a bigger chance of losing the format war so then they will be F*CK&D up so playing cheap they got a old but proven technology DVD. Xbox 360 don't have the courage to stand in the latest game show because the people behind they know how to copy others i.e MAC OS to MS Windows, Lotus 123 to Excel, PC to Xbox and the list is endless. LOSERRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS :) Just accept it.
Broadside @ Mar 26th 2007 8:39PM
well I played the Virtua tennis demo on my 360 and have to say the graphics look great but the game sucks, all that diving and they still keep getting the ball back, no unforced errors etc etc. I certainly wouldn't buy it. Obviously the game's designers have never played real world tennis. It looks pretty but in terms of game play is almost as bad as Top Spin, which was well reviewed at the time but was truly appalling and had no atmosphere whatsoever. That attitude button was a joke.
btw good to see PS3 selling well, I will be buying come Christmas time, I like to see healthy competition.
Aaron @ Mar 27th 2007 7:25AM
you guys anger me regarding the weaker denominator.
I mean come on you say weaker format is what ports are based on. Have you actually considered that Devil may cry was originally a PS3 Exlusive which means that code so far is optimised for PS3. Well wait for it to come out on both systems and any bet its better on 360.
And yes its true Xbox 360 has more vibrant colours "its called unified shaders" Shader model 3,0
And before you guys cry fanboy i say hold up, my dell pawns both Next gen systems
