UK charts bow to the mighty PS3!
Maybe that was an overstatement, but it's the truth. With the launch of the console spurring people to proclaim with unnatural glee "it's a failure!" and the numbers to dictate otherwise, it's not surprising to see PlayStation 3 titles smothered all over the UK Charts. Let's break it down, eh?Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm took the first two spots with little surprise. The next PS3 title was Virtua Tennis 3 at number four (it's multiplatform, but that includes the PS3!). Some cricket game got number three. Completely don't understand cricket. Apologies, UK. Call of Duty 3 jumped from number 20 to number 5 -- proving the impact the PS3 had over the weekend! Formula 1 landed at the seventh spot... blah, blah, blah.
We're fairly sure that about does it for PS3 games in the top 10 -- there are plenty more in the next set of 10, but we'll let you see where your favorite game landed. All in all, new console = jump in sales. Refreshing!
[Thanks, Colin!]

Nick... everything you say is an overstatement.

@ Frosty -- oh, yeah? Well... hmm... ah! Everything you say is an understatement! Feel the sting of meaningless rebuttals =P
I'm kidding around, of course. Take not offense!

Nick, you are one of the more entertaining writers on any of the gaming blogs. And not just because you're writing about ps3 stuff either.
As for the actual story, who is surprised by the PS3 doing well in the UK? I think even the doom and gloomers knew deep down it was going to have strong sales when it launched.

Well well well, looks like our "Failure" is doing alright. I think we'll be able to see a much clearer picture of things to come this summer when some real titles drop (say what you will, Resistance, while good, does not a good console make. Same for Motorstorm and VF).
bootsielon @ Mar 27th 2007 11:33AM
Virtua Fighter does make the PS3, at least for now. Personally I think it's the best game available on both next-gen platforms right now (in the west), and possibly the best 3D realistic fighter ever made.
Anyway, Ndoerr is pretty funny. Definitely funnier than Ludwig Kietzmann.

Thanks for the compliments =)
Yeah, I've got to say my favorite is Virtua Fighter 5, also. Even though it wound up, where, 14? on the list... it's really great. Although I didn't play it for a few weeks and have completely lost my ability to play it.

Motorstorm, Resistance and VF 5 are awesome launch titles. I can see why the PS3 is doing well there. Once the PS3 gets one amazing exclusive out, the sales will pickup even more. Just wait till Elder Scrolls is out over there.
Killer @ Mar 27th 2007 12:25PM
Xiru, Elder Scrolls isn't an exclusive. It's already been over there for PC and 36. I just want to point that out.
Me=360fanboy, lol
Congrats to the ps3 for its European conquest.
Also I agree, Nick is more entertaining that alot of these other bloggers on all the sites.

Played PS3 in a local Currys store. Not so sure about the form factor. However, the game demos looked quite encouraging.
Colin @ Mar 27th 2007 5:32PM
BTW....
EU sales for 1st weekend = 600,000
Xiru @ Mar 27th 2007 8:35PM
Lol, yeah I know its not exclusive. I should have written my statement better. I was saying that when the PS3 gets a big exclusive it will sell a lot better and to also look out for Elder Scrolls which will also add to sales. I wasn't implying that it was an exclusive to the PS3. In fact, I was going to get a 360 just for Oblivion when I heard about it but couldn't get my hands on one. Now i'm glad i waited and have it for PS3.
massive_98 @ Mar 31st 2007 7:41PM
Do you think evolution studios will make a sequel to motorstorm, but with totally different vehicles?
I mean instead of offroad cars, how bout boats?
Even the name still works.(boats have motors)

That's pretty cool, with how poorly the PS3 is doing everywhere else I think it needs to sell somewhere, I'm pretty big on Nintendo for their innovation in games, but I really like PS3 and 360, Wii was just my first choice. PS3 is a good console with good games, people haven't noticed that quite yet, sales in the UK are good, and they will probably go up everywhere else soon enough... Who's up for helping me buy one though? I haven't got the funds
