Heavenly Sword motion capture session with Andy Serkis
Some of you may know Andy Serkis as the fellow who voiced the beyond-logical-description character Gollum in some movie about rings and lords... Pride and Prejudice, methinks. There were lordly people in there and much exchanging of rings. We kid, naturally. Anyway, it's pretty interesting and entertaining seeing this guy get into character for his role in Heavenly Sword. Reminds me of myself, when I get into character at the start of every single day of my life. Get it? No? It wasn't a joke, you say? Now I'm confused.

Hmmm I can see how this motion capture resulted in what was seen in Heavenly Sword. The thing is, his acting involved a lot of intense staring and his eyes and eyebrows really just don't move that much.
This translates directly into the Heavenly Sword trailer where the facial expressions of the guy Andy Serkis plays isn't very fluid. Sometimes it just appears too frozen. Even though that may be how the character should be acted out, its too stiff. But... that's just my opinion.

It'd be good to see this side by side with the in game footage then. I wonder if they'd have had better luck capturing that impressive acting using that newer motion capture technique which uses paint.

Serkis also did the MOTION of Gollum, as well as the motion of King Kong.

Well, it is a nice story. Maybe I should tell my friends on bikerkiss about this, I think they will like to see such things.

Why do people still insist on using old passive marker systems. Active marker systems could fix that jerkyness Dahk was refering to. Companies like www.phasespace.com offer some really good really cheap optical motion capture systems that use active markers. They produce some good capture at realtime, check them out.

I agree with Dahk. The capture itself is a bit choppy. This is probably because people still insist on using old passive marker systems. Active marker systems like the one www.phasespace.com has. Check them out they can do realtime capture better and cheaper the passive marker systems.
