OPM UK including Blu-ray demo disc on May 2nd
It's a world first! OPM UK is going to be the pioneer of the PS3's Blu-ray disc and include one in its... June issue? The one that comes out May 2nd. We're assuming that's the June issue. From OPM: "Important announcement from Official PlayStation Magazine. Playable PS3 games. From 2 May every issue of OPM will come with a Blu-ray disc packed with PS3 demos. No other magazine can do this." Well, snap, puff! Seems they've scored the exclusive right to include a Blu-ray demo disc. We've got to ask, though: is this necessary? We've got the PS-Store to snag whatever we need... admittedly, there aren't exactly regular demo updates, but still. Will devs support the motion of the "old-fashioned" demo discs, or will they go with the PS-Store's digital distribution method? It's an interesting battle, but it's not like anyone loses. Sort of. What?

We got a few demos. They will probably have the good ones on the disc. Like, why is a demo of DMC4 on a disc at retail stores and not on the PSN right now?
Why is OPM still around?

I think it'll be once in a blue moon that they have "exclusive" demos that aren't already available on the PS store.

"We've got to ask, though: is this necessary? We've got the PS-Store..."
Yea I think it is necessary. To draw a comparison 360 has the X-Box live marketplace which is LIGHT YEARS superior to the ps store and the Offical X-Box magazine still comes with a disk that is still very useful.

Even if it's the same demos as on the PS Store, I'd rather have them on a BluRay disc than taking up space on my hard drive. But at the same time, I wouldn't pay extra for the magazine just because it has it, unless it's got some juicy exclusives.

LOL, if XBL Marketplace is light years ahead of PS Store, I wonder where that puts PS Home.
I am curious about how XBL Marketplace can be that much better than PS Store at downloading demos though. I mean, you click to download, it downloads.

id would be nice to just pop the disc in then wait for the download.. and madgunde had a good point too... wont take up HD space... not that its a huge issue, but still.

On that subject, I haven't gotten a PS3 yet - How's background downloading working after the latest firmware update?
Nash @ Apr 6th 2007 12:31PM
Why'd they kill OPM in the US but not the UK? I'd rather get the BD demos and not have to wait until a month after the game is out to get the demo on PSN. Either get updates on PSN faster, or give me the discs.
And background downloading 6 at a time is sweet.

Sure it's necessary. Not even half of PS3 users have taken it online, so why not give 50% of the customer base the same chance to try out new demos, etc.?
And even if you do happen to have broadband, a lot of us are stuck with bandwidth limits, so being able to pick up the demo off a disc instead can be a huge plus.
However you look at it, everyone wins.
