Gruesome The Darkness gameplay footage entertains
We've been looking forward to The Darkness since it reared it's ugly little head(s) several months ago. Recent gameplay previews have looked both fun and frentic. The latest footage takes a more gruesome twist and has us wanting this game even more. Some amusing things to pay attention to in this oh-so-brief video include the totally appropriate soundtrack and the meal- hogging head on the right (Come on! Your buddy is starving!).

Looks wonderful. Another title in the list of games to look forward to...
also another title in the list of "Buy the PS3 when this title comes out"
Ha ha I still need to save up though :P I'd much rather save up for a PS3 than buy a cheap Wii.

Hm... Long Necked Chimera? (Resistance: Fall of Man)
Anyone else think that's what they look like?

Yeah, does anybody else frequently get a bad feeling about the PS3 version when gameplay video only ever shows the 360 build? I know I do. Obviously this is going to another title that looks better on the 360.

I'm nervous about the Darkness, but much more about Assasin's Creed. I really want that game to shine on the ps3, but with UbiSoft at the helm...
it's sort of like the head to head on IGN for splinter cell. It looks great on both, but when shown right next to the 360 version, it's just missing something... in some ways it looks better, but overall it just doesn't look as good. Weird changes and discrepancies, like the face on the guard... when watching it the whole look ends up being so different it's bizarre.
I'd love to know whether it's because the ps3 can't do it, it's too hard for developers still, or whether they really are just being lazy with ports. We've seen with RfoM, Motorstorm and several others (f1 looks fantastic) that the ps3 can do great things graphically, so why are multi-platform games consistenly coming up just short?

Lazy. Developers.

That's next gen, and not because of the graphics. Whoever thought of attaching flesh-eating arms to ourselves? Methinks this touches on some deep-rooted festering cannibalistic urges. Brain-stem button pushing.
It would be cool if there was some levity brought to this game with flashbacks of when this guy was a kid, and his lunch got stolen by the bully, but instead of assailing him, he attacks his mac n cheese with lots of slobbering and then there's this slow-mo bullet time thing of like severed cheesy macaroni flying everywhere...
The music for this was a great choice.

The developer for Ninja Gaiden Sigma was saying that they discovered during development that the ps3 could do self-shadowing, in real-time.
I had to look it up, there's a great paper on self-shadowing, here:
http://graphics.stanford.edu/papers/deepshadows/
You have to download the .pdf to get the graphics and the whole article, but it's quite fascinating, and is another underline of the power in the ps3, in the hands of the right developer.
