Guild Wars 2 -- console bound free MMO decency or not?
Yes, Guild Wars is sitting on my desktop currently and no, I'm not level 20 or anything. Why? Because my laptop doesn't like to load it... and every map needs such heavy updating I'm pretty sure I'll never play it again. But that's not the point! It was free! Aside from the initial purchase price. What did that yield? A pretty decent following, but coupled with at-most decent gameplay focused primarily on teamwork. Maybe things have changed, but those were my impressions from the first few months of release. In any case, Guild Wars 2 is bound for beta testing in 2008 and they're releasing some other expansion pack later this year. An interview with Eurogamer brought up the question whether this sequel would come to consoles. Ben Miller responded to the question thus: "We are focused on PCs right now. I think consoles remain an interesting opportunity for Guild Wars in the future, but that's not something we've announced any plans for at this time." Basically, that means "Yeah, it's being tossed around."
It would make sense for Guild Wars 2 to come to the PlayStation 3 at the very least, since online is already free. Would they be able to throw the game up on the PS-Store at a cheaper price to get even more interest? I'd give it another shot, for sure, if it was easy to get to. And the PS3 certainly has more processing power than this aging dinosaur of a laptop. Thoughts?

Has there ever been a sequel to an MMO more successful than it's predecessor? I don't think so..Lineage 2and Everquest 2 bombed, as did Asheron's Call. SWG tried to do a massive overhaul versus releasing a new game and it failed too. Just food for thought.

I for one have heard of this and hope that Guild Wars does come out on the PS3. The PS3 allows Keyboard and Mosue so GW would be a perfect fit on the PS3. Plus I could see Home working out great on the PS3 with this game. I am a big GW fan I own three game packs right now but the game takes forever to load with my PC and having the PS3 use its power for the game I think this game could be a big hit on the PS3.

NCSoft would never allow their games to go onto a console, even if ArenaNet(I think thats their name) did. I believe it was Tabula Rasa(an upcoming game published by NCSoft) that wanted to release on PC and a couple of the next gen consoles but they said no, flatout.
Maybe they will change their mind for a free to play game though. Who knows?

Nick,
How is Guild Wars? I upgraded my pc (new video card and 2gigs or ram) 2 weeks ago. And downloaded C&C 3 and Guild Wars cuz i heard its free online. But haven't tried it yet. Is it worth the bother?

sh0wstopper -- I honestly have nothing against Guild Wars. It's a fine title, really. Again, with all MMO's, my opinions stay nearly the same - doing stuff on your own is nearly impossible (even exploring the map... I only ever have one or two friends on a game with me at a time and I've told you my opinions on people in MMO's... see FFXI rant), and the level cap is really low. Plus my laptop hindered my enjoyment of it. That said, give it a few hours. It's got a pretty cool story and quick gameplay.

Been playing GW since release, fun game. It's an MMO with no grind that lets u get into PVP action quickly. It also has no monthly fees so just the one time payment. If ur not into PVP they have PVE for you which has a pretty good story for being a mmo. I would be interested to see GW2 on the ps3, they are going for a open world like WoW and keeping the instanced gaming which made GW1 good.
If u want to know whether it would be a bother, the best is to just try for yourself. If you ask politely, I'm sure there are many people in fan site forums that are willing to give away their week guest passes that come with the game.
