Fans dispel PSP misconceptions
PSP games are ports: FALSE
PSP lacks good games: FALSE
PSP games have bad controls: FALSE
Fans are sick of the PSP misinformation that many DS fans are spreading on the Internet. Both Sony and Nintendo fanboys are responsible for immature, irrational thinking that's based on half-truths and lies. To combat this growing ignorance, PSP fans have taken the liberty to create an entire website devoted to debunking common PSP misconceptions. True to our namesake, we'd like to salute the people behind "thepsphasnogames," and hope they continue to fight the good fight. We know that once people have a chance to actually play the system, and learn more about its true capabilities, they too would be as enamored as we are.

Congratulations a diabolical TLR!

Well done! Kudos to these guys, but I must address this bad self-consciousness: Ports. What's so wrong?! I like good ports, so long as they're ported porperly. I want XenoSaga--a futuristic Jap RPG--on the PSP, and not some SD-fied version like the DS incarnation, because I want a straight, solid-straight port of the narrative/visual novel that graced the PS2. I am sick of hearing this crap. Ports =/= bad. Bad =/= bad, which can be a port, or an exclusive.

Madd respect to these guys yo!
It goes without saying that I'm huge PSP fanboy but I don't hate the DS or anything like that. In fact, two of my favorite games are on the DS (Hotel Dusk & Phoenix Wright FTW).
So its sad to see because ignorance of some people (*cough*EGM*cough*) they can't see how fun a PSP really is when you use all of its functions and when you get the right games for it.
I think from now on, if we spot any PSP naysayers saying their cliche tag lines (Collecting Dust, bad games, selling bad) in the forums or even here in PSPfanboy, ignore them and post a link to this website.
FYI, I am a Fan of EGM but I just disagree with they're opinion about the PSP is all.

Anyone who trusts magazines to shape there own subjective view on a console desrves to be shot.

if psp lacks good games then i dun want to know what the ds is, the psp controls are wayy better then the ds, and i don't know what a port is..anyone?
pershing333 @ Apr 12th 2007 3:52PM
the gamecube or the wii dont get every single one of their handheld games ported to it like the sp2 does with psp titles liek gta, emrcury, lumanites, tokobots, etc. Whats the point of owning a psp when u can play better evrsions of its games on a ps2 that costs liek half as much to buy and on a much bigger screen with better control?
daniel @ Apr 11th 2007 6:26PM
psp are cool
NeverSage @ Apr 11th 2007 7:27PM
I used to fall in the "psp has no games" category. About two weeks ago I looked at what I considered to be a $250 paper weight and finally said "fuck it" and bought 4 games (loco roco, grip shift, ace combat, and killzone). I'm quite happy with my purchase now.
Alex Oughton @ Apr 11th 2007 8:04PM
I owned a PSP from launch until a few months ago, and unfortunately agree with people who say it has poor controls, and few good games. For this reason, I sold it.
Fatass of Kickassness @ Apr 11th 2007 8:47PM
Nice to see PSP owners taking initiative and debunking the rumors with a level of maturity.
Dreadhead541 @ Apr 11th 2007 8:57PM
yay for TLR, he's finally getting the recognition he deserves
Zachary Hinchliffe @ Apr 11th 2007 9:31PM
I have personally found less games that I really enjoy on the PSP than the DS, but I certainly don't think it's a viable platform. The controls are the same as the DS, and there are plenty of good games, that aren't ports.
Sean @ Apr 12th 2007 12:22AM
Yeah... all graphics no substance... 5 hour repetitive DS games have ALL the substance! (sarcasm)
Kade Storm @ Apr 12th 2007 12:45AM
Pershing333,
I am going to say this real slow, so pay attention, because I'm meeting you halfway.
"What's the point of playing 'watered-down PS2 ports?"
Because I get them in the palm of my hands. Portable and firggin' sleek! Furthermore, who said they're watered down? Pitch a PS2 with in iResolution, against the crisp LCD of the PSP - getting somewhere? No? What about Rengou vs. Zaft for the PSP? That game outdid its PS2 rendition for the most part!
Seriously, where the hell does this garbage come out from.
And better, yet, some of us might not be interested in getting a PS2. So many people assume that current PSP users are interested in being tethered to their PS2s--not true!
OrangeTimer @ Apr 12th 2007 12:55AM
I'm all for people pro actively promoting their favorite system, and i commend these guys for what they're doing. But really, this website is horrible, instead of providing an argument about the misconceptions of the PSP they just spout fanboy rhetoric with loose statements to back themselves up and to top it off they decide the verdict... i thought i was the one being enlightened so i could create my own opinion.
My choice statement is (On the subject of bad controls - paraphrased) If the N64 was so good with only X amount of buttons so is the PSP.
Although this site does highlight a lot of the inconsistencies in fanboy arguments, it does so with equally inconsistent data. (The PSP ports arguments are rather flimsy).
VERDICT: BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME
txa1265 @ Apr 12th 2007 10:35AM
The whole thing of PSP fanboys 'disproving' generalities about the PSP using other generalities and bad statistics is absurd, but be that as it may ...
I actually generally agree with the points they are making: there are plenty of good games, not all games have bad controls or long load times or crappy controls.
But that is very different from saying "we have proved that the PSP doesn't have bad controls". That is very game-specific. Within-genre, for example, there are some that work well and others that don't. I'm a big FPS and RPG fan, so I note that all RPG's have pretty good controls while all FPS controls are at best acceptable but blatantly inferior to console or PC equivalents. The same could be said for load times and so on.
These people all need to take 'Scientific Method 101'
pixelator @ Apr 12th 2007 5:47PM
The point of the site is to dispel myths and BS - not to take every element of every argument and dissect it, validating both sides. In that sense, they succeed. They take the main bulletpoint myths and nonsense that the hardcore Nintendo or Anti-Sony fanboys spread and basically dispel the notions with a few key facts.
Do the facts apply to all cases? No, of course not. Not all PS2 ports are good or better on PSP. Some are, indeed, better on the PS2. Some games are ports, and some could argue that's not ideal for a system that should have its own identity. But the main thing they're trying to say with that one ported game example is that 1). not all PSP games are direct ports and 2). not all ports are bad, especially on a pocketable handheld. These counterpoints are basically valid and counter the arguments that 'All PSP games are crappy ports' or 'PS2 games are better on the PS2, so playing them on PSP is pointless'.
I agree that the N64 controller argument doesn't apply to all games, but it's a perfectly valid point to make when there are so many naysayers saying 'PSP can't do (insert game type here) because it lacks a second analog stick'. Not all PSP FPS or other titles are perfectly fine with single analog, but the number of games that have 'broken control' like so many haters proclaim is nowhere near what they'd have people believe.
@pershing333: LOL.
