NASCAR 08 gets some new screens

I'm not sure I get the appeal of NASCAR. Is it the speed? The potential for an explosive pile up at every turn? The excuse to throw the wildest tailgate party ever? Whatever the appeal, EA is looking to leverage it when they bring NASCAR 08 to the next-generation consoles later this year.
"As the new rookie driver on the circuit, develop your racing skills to gain licenses and contracts from hungry owners and unlock legendary top performing cars from NASCAR's biggest stars. Gain new experiences during every race then modify your car's handling with over 40 tuning options to truly master every track."
Some new screens of the multi-platformer hit the Interwebs today and they look mighty pretty. These shots are from the Xbox 360 version of the game, but we expect the PS3 to look nearly identical. Enjoy!

Don't worry about not getting the appeal of NASCAR, Ed - there is none.
Charl3z523 @ Apr 13th 2007 12:09AM
Wow those screens look so crappy. I wish EA would at least put some time into this game so I could at least think about buying it...
Adam Welsh @ Apr 13th 2007 2:08AM
My girlfriend's into NASCAR, and she's slowly bringing me into it. Might be worth a look.
Will @ Apr 13th 2007 12:08AM
yep, there's no appeal...that's why it's the 2nd most popular sport in america, you're brilliant Stef
dalejrfanfreak @ Apr 13th 2007 12:24AM
If you haven't been to a NASCAR race, then you won't understand the appeal. There is a HUGE difference between watching it on Tv and seeing it in person. I can guarentee you that if you go to one race at Daytona or Talladega you will be hooked.
As for the screens, most of them are unimpressive. However, in a couple of them the lighting looks really nice. Ea sports has really slacked on NASCAR games though, so much that nascar gamers are willing to pay $100 for a four year old PC sim off ebay.

Looks like you guys got me. Watching cars with K-mart logos on them go in circles is enthralling!
And the fact that NASCAR is popular in the US doesn't say much. I mean, the US elected George Bush twice!
chris @ Apr 13th 2007 12:43AM
I hope the ps3 SS's look better than those crappy 360 ones
radpanic @ Apr 13th 2007 12:46AM
@dalejrfanfreak
I have been to a race at Talladega and I can still honestly say that I don't see the appeal.

@ Stef
We voted for Bush because it was smarter then voting for our other choices.(Crazy Al Gore, and Flip flopping Kerry.) Sorry, but the rest of the world should butt out of who we elect. It is our country you know. We don't care what you say. The only reason we never get on your back about who you vote for, because it's your right not ours so we stay out of it.
Also, I hate Nascar! It's boring and pointless. Oh and I don't know if you remember stef that only 33% of the population of the U.S. actually votes. It's sad I know, but I geuss we care more about other important stuff like football or american idol.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Apr 13th 2007 6:18AM
These screens look like crap. They always do when it comes to "track" racing games.
I guess it's an attempt to reflect the "stock" part of the sport: all systems have to have the same lame graphics to participate.
NASCAR Racing is the only true stock car game. Of course, it's really a sim, not a game.
humpty @ Apr 13th 2007 7:18AM
NASCAR is like WWE.. sure it popular, but, its entertainment not a sport.
Will @ Apr 13th 2007 8:39AM
actually the car of tomorrow is only being used in less than half the races this season and if you go to their website there's a pic of the new car...so they're up to speed as far as that is concerned, but unfortunately not much else
James @ Apr 13th 2007 10:18AM
I played NASCAR that was on the PSP - it was a lot of fun, especially the career mode. I think it was the first NASCAR game where I raced more than 3 races in the season. The rewind feature really allowed me to play the game and avoid crashes, which I'm usually prone to do in these racing sims. I'd probably like to see a demo before buying, but it's on my list of titles to look at. I'm slowly getting over my racing game fatigue now that Oblivion is out and I've been playing through MGS2 (never owned a PS2).
smco @ Apr 13th 2007 10:33AM
woah!!!! We didn't vote for bush, you did, so stop acting like everyone in the US is on your side.
WTangoFoxtrot @ Apr 13th 2007 10:54AM
F1 all the way !!!!!
i'd prefer that to this on my 360, saw the game on the PS3 and it blew me away, sad to see it dint sell well.
Stef Geiger @ Apr 13th 2007 11:08AM
@10: No, the reason why the American's didn't insult who we voted for (not that you even knew where I was from at that point) is because most American's don't seem to know much/care about Canada. Most of you guys can't name our capital, and even George Bush before being elected was tricked into believing that the prime minister was "Jean Poutine".
And you're more than welcome to insult my prime minister. I sure as hell wasn't dumb enough to vote for him.
theburn16 @ Apr 13th 2007 11:16AM
James: this game hardly qualifies as a "sim"...it's purely arcade, or at least it has been since EA started making the game. it looks to be a little more realistic this year with so many tuning options, but it still won't be a sim racing game
KillarClown @ Apr 13th 2007 11:45AM
I'd rather be watching paint dry.
Hey aren't all nascar crashes are caused by the actual drivers falling asleep out of boredom?
Think about it.
Insomniac @ Apr 13th 2007 12:21PM
Just buy TOCA race driver three instead, you get to go right and left in the same race! Who woulda' thunk it?
Clint @ Apr 16th 2007 4:21PM
Bush lied.
Killer @ Apr 13th 2007 4:30PM
Stef, sure I don't care about canada? Even though I go there every summer, twice for a total of 2 months. Also, why would I insult Stephen Harper or any of the past or future Prime Ministers of Canada? It's your country not mine, I don't care. I may take vacations up there, but I really don't care who you vote in. Unlike the majority of people in america I actually know who's running other countries goverments and who is the secretary of the treasury of the U.S. is right now. Anyone truely know the name without looking it up? I know, I do.
@Clint
"Bush lied."
Well duh! Welcome to the politics that is the United States Goverment. Now if you would kindly point out every and I mean every Politicion, you'll see they all lie, because it's not about the PEOPLE that voted them in, it's all about saving their sorry asses from not getting reelected.
Glad to see that you woke up to smell the coffee this morning. Why else does only 33% of america vote? They just don't care anymore.
dalejrfanfreak @ Apr 14th 2007 2:14PM
33% of Americans might have voted but it sounds like more than 33% think they have a right to complain. Also, NASCAR has better ratings than baseball, basketball, hockey, and the crazy thing is there's only ONE race vs. multiple games going on in a weekend. And if you don't think NASCAR gamers aren't existent, usually EA's game breaks the top ten the month it comes out.
systemfan1188 @ Apr 21st 2007 7:00PM
lol funny...NASCAR can be as boring as anyother sport..watching guys throw around balls and such. I mean football is like...run that way and i'll throw you the ball...or baseball is like..stand around and wait for the ball to get hit..basketball involves running back and forth tossing a ball around into a hoop? That is boring as well. SO what's your point?
Thankfully NASCAR driver's and teams don't smack eachothers butts after something good happends.
