PS3 release dates for the US -- more delays expected
If you were ever suspicious over the claim that the PS3 doesn't have much going on this summer, you're about to realize that... yeah, it doesn't really. Not to say there aren't games coming out -- at least one per week, but most are ports, downloadables, or... oh, that's it. There aren't any real high-profile titles coming that are PS3 exclusive except for two. Anyway, here's the release date list adopted from IGN. We'll go through July.- April 24: F.E.A.R
- April 26: Super Rub-a-Dub, Calling All Cars!
- May 3: Go Puzzle!
- May 4: Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man 3: Collectors Edition
- May 15: MLB '07: The Show
- May 22: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas
- May 29: Surf's Up
- June 8: Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer
- June 19: Transformers: The Game
- June 25: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Bigs
- June 26: The Darkness, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Tom Clancy's GRAW2
- July 10: NCAA Football '08
- July 17: Nascar '08
- July 31: Lair
Whew. It seems like the end of June has a cluster of good games. Expect those to spread out a little bit -- delayed more likely than released early. Our estimation, so don't take it as canon.

Yeah, ugh. I hate the first year drought. Overall, not that bad though.
I'm looking at Calling all Cars, Rainbow Six (unless Ubisoft screws up the port bad), Ninja Gaiden Sigma, The Darkness and Lair as solid titles to pick up.
Kind of a dearth till june though...

Not Good...
Sony really needs to step up soon. I love my PS3. But Sony needs to start giving me more reasons to love it. I am fortunate to have a 7.1 surround sound system and a 1080p monitor which the PS3 takes advantage of. But I still need some games. I own 32 blu-ray movies... and the novelty is starting to wear off. GAMES GAMES GAMES!!! we need games. I was watching the newest IGN weekly and the LAIR coverage gave me a wet dream. But thats just one game (ok Heavenly Sword makes 2). I also own a 360 and at the moment it is crushing the PS3 in GAME time. Dont get me wrong if you have a PS3 and not a 360 you are prolly as happy as a Fag in jail. But if you have both or are considering getting one or the other then 360 at the moment has the better gameplay experience BY FAR!!! I am one of the people that say "It just launched give it time". But at this point in its life cycle (May-September)is when 360 started to gear up (no pun intended) and drop some beasts. Come on Sony I have faith but you gotta give us something soon.

My wife is gonna hate me by the end of July. The Darkness, NCAA football, and Lair will be alot of money to fly under the radar. -_-
Matt B @ Apr 16th 2007 3:36PM
But it will be a necessary evil.
Dolla Dolla @ Apr 16th 2007 3:51PM
@Matt B
Just pretend like The Darkness comes out in May (60 put away), NCAA Football comes out in June (60 put away), and then Lair drops in July (another 60). That way, the hit only appears to be one a month, except three concurrently.

Even though the majority of these are ports, it's good to get more titles out there and bulk up the Playstation 3 shelves in the shops.
This of course means more people buy Playstation 3s, which means more developers pumping out more games. Perfect cycle.

Not a huge deal.
Other than Mass Effect for the 360 and Nintendo's: "Nothing: Business as usual" for the Wii, the other consoles are dead for the summer too.
scott @ Apr 16th 2007 4:42PM
Not a huge deal? Good joke, it's a little different for a the well established consoles to have a drought, not a brand new console that nobody is buying.
It's as idiotic as comparing the 360 and ps3's launch titles. People say its ok that ps3 has shit for games, 360 did too at launch. But you're terribly wrong, considering the 360 had 0 competition when it launched. Ps3 has competition, and even delayed a year, and it still has shit for titles.
If your console was actually selling well, drought wouldn't be a big deal. But nobody is buying your console, and when a new console has very little games coming out for it, people will are gonna get a console that DOES have games for it, to play through the drought. Would you rather have 30 some games or 150 some games to pick from to play during slow release months?
alienclay @ Apr 16th 2007 6:12PM
i'm not going to buy a second next gen console this early for ports, i.e. ones that had versions on the ps2. so that 150 games to pick from shrinks rather fast in my book. the last year of titles for 360 didn't convince me to buy one, nor the prospects of the games yet to coms for that system. and it wont now.
i agree with Kilgore, for all next gen, this will be a slow summer (as usual). i think the hard core gamers for the most part that would consider buying another next gen console, already have, or are still looking for a wii. i don't think this summer drought will decide the console war. (but the next holiday season might.)
now if you excuse me,i have some psp games to buy and catch up on.
eddy_88_nite @ Apr 16th 2007 6:29PM
I pretty much want all the games there other than the ones based on the movies.
massive_98 @ Apr 16th 2007 6:46PM
All the games I want are coming in fall.
CHINESE BABON @ Apr 16th 2007 7:39PM
Halo 3 anyone, oh, wait, wrong forum
P.S. Ha Ha!
madgunde @ Apr 16th 2007 9:08PM
Well, there's at least a game a month I'm looking for, and I think I buy more games than the average gamer.
F.E.A.R., Calling All Cars, Rainbow Six: Vegas, GRAW2 and LAIR. Not too shabby. There are four times as many games coming out in the next four months as I actually want/need. Looks like there's lots of stuff to satisfy all gamers, from shooters and sports to casual gamers and movie game fans.
Then in September, we start to see a crap load of big titles hit shelves. I'm not worried. Even if I finish all the games on my shopping list before the end of summer, I have to fit time in to play Oblivion too...
Cagalli @ Apr 16th 2007 9:40PM
I can't wait till fall when people can stop whining about the PS3 not having any great games. I personally have hopes for Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Assassin's Creed, Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Guitar Hero III, Dark Sector, Ratchet and Clank, and a whole bunch more. Not to mention, I'm definitely picking up The Darkness and Ninja Gaiden Sigma in June. As owner of all three consoles I can safely say that the PS3 is looking to have a great first year as far as games go, it's just that the majority of them are hitting around the holidays. Heck, I didn't even get a 360 until Dead Rising was out and that was September. There weren't any other titles I wanted on the system until then, and even this year there's not much on it that I won't be able to get on PC instead.

Scott: Concentrate less on fanboyism, more on finally kissing a girl.
Thanks.
Foo @ Apr 17th 2007 1:07PM
Yikes....
That's a lot of ports which I already own. Also a lot of movie titles. I am going to try and not regret my purchase by watching a bunch of blu-ray movies. I can't believe we have to wait till the holiday season for all the good stuff! I still don't own any stinkn games for this thing!
TheSh0wstopper @ Apr 17th 2007 2:45PM
I bought my Playstation 3 on launch day and till now I still only own 2 games (Resistance and VF5). This is a first for me. I buy EVERYTHING worth buying. I had 4 games on 360 launch, 3 on XBOX 1's launch and 9 on PS2 launch day. Currently i own about 16 360 games (im at work right now so I cant physically count them), even though it has been out a year longer this is still no excuse to only have 2 games worth owning (The ports are not worth buying if you have a 360). From the looks of things my count might only be at 5, counting Heavenly Sword, Lair, and Sigma, by the end of the year. Thats sad especially considering there has been singlemonths that I picked up about 4 360 games. Come on Sony, pick it up...
