Now, that's one cool PS3!

Want to make you PS3 even bigger? Pelican has the answer with their new AIR FLO Cooler. The AIR FLO will make your PS3 about 20% bigger, transforming your lowly console into a full-scale Battlestar (as in Galactica).
Supposedly the new periphreal also cools your PS3. Personally, we've never gotten the "Your PS3 is too hot" warning, but we can see where some might like the alleged added security of extra cooling. This unit actually draws its power from its own AC adapter rather than putting any additional strain on the PS3 power supply itself. With 5 extra fans and a $29.95 MSRP, the AIR FLO may be a worthwhile accessory for the super-paranoid console tweaker (or Battlestar Galactica fan).

And does it sound like a lawnmower (or a 360?)?
mccomber @ Apr 23rd 2007 11:31PM
This seems like the solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
Cagalli @ Apr 23rd 2007 11:42PM
starnos, go troll elsewhere :| Jeez, the Xbots are out in force lately.

You know what's sad? My misinformed friend told me about this cooler the other day and said that he heard a lot of ps3's are over heating, that's why they made it. I hate the media.
mccomber @ Apr 24th 2007 12:04AM
It's too bad, because there are a handful of 360 owners around here that seem pretty cool and actually add to the conversation, but they get buried by all these people who just make stupid comments. I do wonder if the xbox blog gets this many trolls, it's pretty ridiculous.
Magma @ Apr 24th 2007 12:09AM
#2 you moron, apparently you missed the article(again) on blu ray kicking microsofts ass, and 360 doesnt have much better games imo that I'd be interested in playing.
Cagalli @ Apr 24th 2007 12:17AM
mccomber, I agree with you on that but it only takes one person to ruin it.
Cagalli @ Apr 24th 2007 12:55AM
PS3s really don't overheat unless you lock it in an unventilated case or something. Mine stays on for days and never gets hot. Only the air blowing out of it is a little warm, but the system itself is never.
Stef Geiger @ Apr 24th 2007 1:19AM
Yeah, let's not forget places like Stanford that are basically running the things at 100% for WEEKS on end without ANY issues. Personally, I once ran Home for more than five days straight and never had an issue. The system gets pretty warm, but not as warm as my HD Cable box, or as hot as a 360...
It's one of the many reasons why the PS3 costs $600.
DUCKyy @ Apr 24th 2007 3:46AM
i leave mine on for days & never had a problem overheating...so yea, this is pretty much useless...
Tyler @ Apr 24th 2007 3:59AM
My PS3's been on for a good 2 weeks now, its still running cool
John @ Apr 24th 2007 4:13AM
I don't see how another pointless cooling unit for the PS3 gets your attention while this goofy little trinket goes unmentioned.

Whee! A qwerty thumbpad that sits...at the top of the controller? Well, at least it does something.
realstar @ Apr 24th 2007 5:16AM
In my personal experience the PS3 is great at keeping heat levels to a minimum by slowing or speeding it's internal fan as needed. I wouldn't waste my time on this. They even make a cooling fan for the Wii now which is getting ridiculous.
humpty @ Apr 24th 2007 7:58AM
PS3 uses a blower, not a fan. And, this cooler is on the exhaust end of things... for it to be useful, it would have to be on the intake side and force feeding the blower.

@ John
i wish i would have seen that earlier! seems nice, has anybody ever used this? i might have to pick one up!
thanx for the info.
Hiroken @ Apr 24th 2007 4:19PM
My PS3 had a few overheating issues when I had it in a crappy faux-wood entertainment center. The faux wood actally heated up and jacked up the heat of the PS3. Once i moved it out of there, I haven't had any problems whatsoever.

#8 Yeah it is pretty sad you know they have made one of these fans/coolers for the Wii as well. Its just a product to put on the shelf and people go oh my I dont have one of those I must need one there must be heat issues.
alienclay @ Apr 24th 2007 6:01PM
while the product is superflous, i like the way it looks.

That's one nice George Forman grill accessory LOL
