New GTAIV info -- helicopters! Wheee!

With new GTAIV information in such short supply these days, you can count on your favorite fanboy blog to latch onto even the most miniscule piece of news and parlay it into a full-fledged post. Of course, we're talking about Xbox 360 Fanboy (we kid, we kid!). Fortunately, we've got a little bit more to go on than just the confirmation of suped-up whirly-birds. According to ComputerandVideoGames.com, GTAIV is filled to the brim with all kinds of fun stuff:
"Despite the absence of planes, helicopters are still in the game. AI has been improved and you can still get yourself a virtual girlfriend." It's only a matter of time before the sequel to Hot Coffee, aka Steaming Latte, is discovered within the games code. Jack Thompson will boycott, prompting an instant sell-out and making it the biggest videogame success this side of Halo 3.
Besides all that, CAVG has lots of good information on the progress in making the new Liberty City a "living city" and how Rockstar is continuing to add lots of graphics polish to an already polished engine.
We're excited!

i let my daughter see the trailer, she had a fit and she's only 7!!!! :) (and yeah i let her play both san andreas and 3-she played 3 at 4 years old :) )

...Are you... flaunting the fact that you let your three-year-old child play an extremely violent and vulgar videogame?
massive-98 @ Apr 24th 2007 9:12PM
GTA IV and MERCS:2 are gonna be awesome. Who cares about Halo 3 and Killzone 2.
Stef Geiger @ Apr 24th 2007 10:01PM
Amen to not caring about Halo 3. Killzone 2, though, might be worth a look, as they're dumping HUGE amounts of money into it (almost certainly because of people's reactions to the E3 2005 trailer).

hey stef, yeo... just messing with ya, i make her turn down the volume when playing, and i just turn on the cheat codes and stuff, she a good girl, she knows right form wrong, she level headed :) all in how mature the kid is and plus she started playing gta at 4, just running aroung and driving cars and stuff, shoot she figured out on gta3 that you can flip a couple of cars over near the gates to the dock to jump past the gates to get to the boats, gotta hand it to her on that one :)

I hope she doesn't use the guns and just drives around. Even still, the driving can be pretty violent. Don't you end up killing people with your car?
Anyway, I wanted to post about the comment that it'll be the best thing "this side" of Halo 3. I personally see very little that's innovative or cool about Halo 3. It's the same crap we've seen a million times (and on the PC, we've seen it done better). However, taking a sandbox game like GTA and putting some next gen power behind it, and you'll I predict that it'll be better than Halo 3.
Why is there such hype for that game, even on a PS3 blog? Wasn't Halo 2 widely considered a dud? Too short with a stupid ending? Even the developers don't like it. Once Halo 3 crashes, that may spell the end of Halo as we know it.

Yeah, I agree, the appeal of Halo is completely beyond me. I borrowed a friend's xbox because I was so desperate to finally play the games (at least I thought I was) and found that even some of PS2's BAD shooters were more fun. The game offers nothing new, the weapons aren't satisfying, and it's beyond stupid that you have to shoot enemies that giggle etc. Makes me feel like I'm playing a shooter based on a Saturday morning cartoon. Never mind the colour scheme.
Regardless, Halo 2 was NOT a dud. It broke some serious sales records, and I think I remember hearing they made back the budget for the game TWICE over within the first week (if not days) of sales. It's still played by thousands of (unenlightened) xbox users despite being 2.5 years-old, so it's FAR from a dud.

Halo defined the original xbox, and as such it's no wonder that the 360 version is being hyped by gamers all around. It is the reason a lot of people bought that system; the fact that they are still supporting halo2 as an xbox title on the 360 is pretty big since they basically took the original xbox out and shot it with the release of the it's replacement.
Back in Playstionland, I am definitely looking forward to Killzone2, as a sequel. The original wasn't a revolutionary game, but it was pretty damn good looking as a ps2 title, and kept me entertained until the end. Considering I bought it at $20 I defintely felt that I got my moneys worth.
Oh yeah, and hooray gta, hope it rocks as hard as we're all hoping it will.

I really want to add some long drawn out post about this announcement... but instead I've decided to comment on an interesting phenomena that is being seen on message boards around the net....
discussing just about any other game rates short one sentence posts... to the ilk of "HALo3 is gonna kix azz!" or "YOUR MOMMA'S A DONGLE"
But...
On GTA forums (a franchise so highly criticized, I'd vote for it for the video game series with the most litigation time) the posts are lengthy and on occasion, even deep in meaning and thought...
why is that? that's weird.... All you gun monkeys should be dumb voters as well, right? Where does all this thought come into play? and PLEASE don't make me point out the sarcasm...
SlavedHeart @ Apr 25th 2007 1:37PM
even if they aren't discussing GTA...
