How about some French hardware sales instead?
Week after week (give or take a week in between) we give you our Japanese hardware sales, thinking that's probably a fair estimate of the world's sales. Seems that's still true. The same trends hold true in France, also. What trends? We'll enlighten you after the numbers. Oh, by the way, these are the numbers for the entire first quarter of 2007 -- which kind of puts it in perspective. Kind of.- DS - 260,000
- Wii - 144,000
- PS2 - 92,000
- PSP - 90,000
- PS3 - 81,000
- 360 - 43,000
The trends are as follows: Nintendo tops the charts and the PS2 beats out PS3. For the entire first quarter, might we say that these sales aren't that great for any system? If this were for the week or even month, we'd be surprised, but for the quarter? Not so much. About 12 weeks in three months -- so that's like 6,750 PS3's a week. Take it as you will, guys! But there you have it -- France.

Ps3 not being last on a sales chart for once? (aside from japan, hardly counts). This is sure to start some gloating from the ps3 boys!
Fetcher @ Apr 30th 2007 10:59AM
Not to nag, but your breakdown by week doesn't make sense, seeing as PS3 released in March, at the end of the quarter. Not claiming that PS3 pwns or anything, but you can't break down a weekly average when the PS3 didn't inhabit 80% of those weeks.

@Fetcher...Good point by you sir!
Scott...don't you have pre school class to go to or something?

@ Fetcher -- Fair enough =) Then if the sales for next quarter even remotely mirror these numbers, we've got something to at least lightly fist-pump about.

Nope, I'm a happy college student!

Nintendo is doing fine. I have no complain about that. but we all know PS3's real competition is 360.. and I like the 2:1 ratio.
PSP is not doing too bad, I like that too.

Next quarter will be more telling.
Sony sold twice the number of PS3s, in just one week, that MS sold 360s in 12 weeks from these numbers.
But the launch week isn't a good week to see the demand since it's alway higher then average with early adopters.

As Fetcher said, the ps3 has only been out since late march, meaning the ps3 sold around 80,000 units in a week or two...not three months like the 40,000 360's sold. So actually this is stupendous and means the ps3 is kicking some buttocks in France. Whoever wrote this is a bit slow in the head for not realizing that.

Its pretty impressive that the PS3 beat the 360 in one week. I think 100,000 PS3s were shipped to France for launch, so 90,000 is impressive, especially considering it was deemed a failure
Colin @ Apr 30th 2007 2:35PM
The one negative I see is that if the PS3 is a blow out success in France we'll start getting games where the goal is to surrender first.

Resorting to France numbers...lol...c'mon just give us the worldwide numbers and be done with it!
kingofwale @ Apr 30th 2007 4:23PM
@11
you do realize French Launch was considered a MAJOR failure, right?? from "oh, nobody is buying" to companies not going by launch date.
It's a very encouraging data, not just that PS3 is selling, but that it's selling so much better than 360
