System envy: 7 DS games I wish were on PSP

I may write about PSP gaming news, but I own and play every system (including the new and next-gen consoles). So while I do get to play most any game I want, I can't help but wish in a feverish state, that certain system exclusives went to other consoles. In this case, if I wanted to list 7 DS games I'd love to see show up on PSP (however unrealistic that may be). So here it is:
- New Super Mario Bros (My favorite DS game, but I would like better power ups and more variety. It would also be great to see what the creators could do in 2D with the power of PSP)
- SNK vs Capcom Cardfighters (Addictive and strategic gameplay that makes me giddy. Only if it comes to PSP, add back in free-roaming and take out the game killing bug)
- Ace Attorney (Great characters, funny cases and it makes you think. That sorta game would work on any system)
- Kirby (He may be cute, but the gameplay is classic)
- Advance Wars (Because Field Commander is good, but not THIS good)
- WarioWare(Because there aren't enough mini-game titles on PSP)
- Meteos (Because every Q? Entertainment game should be on PSP)
What about you reader? Are there any DS games you'd like to see on PSP, or do you refuse to even entertain the thought?

I totally agree on Phoenix Wright and the Capcom vs Snk card game (and yeah, give us back the free roaming it had on NGPocket). The other games... meh. Can live without 'em.
Smatt @ May 1st 2007 4:15AM
You do realise the whole reason why Kirby Canvas Curse's gameplay is so good is because of the touch screen.....
Wayne @ May 1st 2007 4:53AM
Mario this, Wario that, Kirby this, Pokemon that, who cares?
I won't buy a Nintendo console because of games like that.
Jay @ May 1st 2007 5:04AM
Meanwhile, some people own both systems and don't have to make these sorts of decisions.
Valestis @ May 1st 2007 5:44AM
New Super Mario Bros. is a great game, but it's soooo frikkin' short!
spin @ May 1st 2007 6:11AM
There's a Phoenix Wright clone coming to PSP (Harvey Birdman, whose potentially far more entertaining)
Field Commander is a similar Advance Wars clone( although I wish the PSP adopted a graphical style that isn't so damn bland).
Hot PXL and WTF have a huge set of minigames. We also have Capcom, Sega, Taito compilations of arcade games.
Seriously though, what's with all the Nintendo franchises? Mario, Kirby? Its the reason I stayed AWAY from the DS! I would *love* to see a Ninja Cop/Ninja 5-0 (GBA) game remade on the PSP, taking advantage of the widescreen and resolution!
Alien @ May 1st 2007 6:24AM
There arent really many . There would be FF and RE , but the PSP have both , and much more of them , so they fall of . Mario ... meh , I rather play Daxter , much batter . Wario , Kirby ... never liked them . There are only 2 DS games that I want , but I can leave without them to : Battles of POP and Metroid Prime FH :)

Re: "Field Commander is a similar Advance Wars clone"
I *wish* that were true ... I recently replayed some of both and the difference (i.e. how much Field Commander is lacking) is even more striking now than at first play. That is unfortunate, as I had really high hopes for that game! I hope someone else puts out a solid turn-based strategy game in that style.
Another style of game that the DS excels at is 'point & click' adventures like Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk. That style the PSP couldn't do, but stuff like Safe Cracker or Call of Cthulhu it could do nicely.
kingofwale @ May 1st 2007 7:29AM
here's for me!
*Fire Emblem (all of them)
*Rivera
*FF tactic
*Mario Kart
that's it.
I think Rivera is coming to PSP, so is Tactic, but I would loove to have Fire Emblem tho.
txa1265 @ May 1st 2007 9:12AM
Well, Fire Emblem has yet to hit DS, but I'm sure it will. That is one place where the upper/lower screen can be used nicely to provide loads of info.
Agreed - Riviera was a fun GBA game, and I can't wait for the PSP version!
Noshino @ May 1st 2007 9:29AM
Riviera was a good game, but nothing compared to Fire Emblem...best game ever...at least the first one on the US was, all the other ones became too easy that now it isnt that challenging not even at the hardest difficulty.
And I doubt Nintendo will add something new to FE for the DS, I don't see anything that could be going on the second screen, I rather keep the info on the first screen like always, and the map, blah, I never even looked at the map, lol.
Hopefully they wont screw up....Sacred Stones anyone?
Colin @ May 1st 2007 9:32AM
test. sorry.
Oz @ May 1st 2007 9:38AM
I wish shounen jump super stars was on the psp.
Zero101 @ May 1st 2007 10:19AM
New Super Mario Bros
If you want to play Nintendo games, you need to buy Nintendo systems.
SNK vs Capcom Cardfighters
Yeah, this one would be cool.
Ace Attorney
Harvey Birdman, maybe?
Kirby
Same as Mario. Might as well say "wow, Halo would be great on the PSP"... sure it would, but it won't happen.
Advance Wars
I disagree.... Field Commander > Advance Wars
WarioWare
You sure do like your Nintendo games, huh?
Meteos
Awesome game, but it wouldn't be very fun without the touch screen.

Super Mario: A decent rehash with new features, but it's basically the same game we've been playing for many hardware generations. At some point, the retro-cool wears off, like with Mario Kart. I was psyched about MK for about a week, and then I realized I was simply revisiting the same game from 15 years ago. There are no 2D retro platformers to compare on PSP (that aren't emulated), but in reality stuff like Ratchet & Clank and Daxter are the updated platform games.
Advance Wars: It's a solid game, but again, it's missing the mark. The first two GBA titles were fantastic - the DS game felt too much like a GBA port with DS functions as a total afterthought. The graphics didn't look as polished as previous versions, and I found myself avoiding the stylus input and sticking to quicker d-pad use. Yes, Field Commander is inferior - it lacks the story, efficient UI and style of Advance Wars.
Aren't as many minigames on PSP: I wish that were true. I hate minigame compilations (unless they're classic arcade collections).
Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk are NOT good games. They have frustratingly tedious game flow (I cut my teeth on ZORK when I was a kid, so don't tell me I'm impatient) and rely on disruptively complex or difficult puzzles to break up the monotony. Their stories are somewhat engaging as is their quirky sketchy-simplistic manga-esque graphic style, but what creativity and novelty there is (especially the neat open-book configuration of Hotel Dusk) gets buried by spending 10 minutes trying to do a simple task like sticking a key in a lock and turning it, or knocking on and trying to open a couple of doors... Or tapping through endless pages of needlessly rambling, meandering dialogue. Sorry, I really wanted to like Hotel Dusk and Trace Memory but both are just too much of a pain in the ass to play. And again, even though the stylus features prominently in both of these, you can play without it just as well. There are better examples of stylus-only games that the PSP really *couldn't* do, like Kirby Canvas Curse.
"Meanwhile, some people own both systems and don't have to make these sorts of decisions."
Amen to that. Anyone who considers themselves a serious gamer should have both systems.
ashtaron @ May 1st 2007 11:26AM
Uggg, definately none of those Mario esque kiddy games :S
I can only think of Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. That said, theres prolly quite a few Jrpgs that would interest me, but thats about it really.

There are many games I would love to see on the PSP, none of them are on the DS though.
Hydro Thunder (dreamcast)
Farcry (Pc)
Rogue Leader (Gamecube)
Zerogunner 2 (dreamcast)
Tron 2.0 (pc)
Aliens Vs Predator (pc)
Starcraft (pc)
Jon @ May 1st 2007 2:56PM
Just buy both systems. You obviously own both, so play the rest on the DS and the other on the PSP.
Miles Pieri @ May 1st 2007 3:37PM
Obviously a 3D legend of Zelda would be nice, even if it were a conversion of one of the N64 titles. A kart racer with the imagination of MarioKart (as opposed to an uninspired copy like that Ape Escape-themed one) and a Metroid game. Whatever one says about Nintendo, it's hard to argue against the quality of their most beloved IP's.
Saigon @ May 1st 2007 3:38PM
I would like to see a 3d mario, 3d zelda, infrastructure smash bros., infrastructure 3d pokemon, and infrastructure f-zero. All those games could work on psp, since almost of them worked well on n64.
zoen151 @ May 1st 2007 5:57PM
I would like to see Final Fantasy 3 with more polished graphics. Nothing with the Nintendo name appeals to me anymore. Same ol' story, same ol' song 'n dance.
zoen151 @ May 1st 2007 6:01PM
I would like to see Final Fantasy 3 with polished up graphics(Why they couldn't do 3d remakes of I&II escapes me). Nothing with the Nintendo name appeals to me anymore. Same ol' story, same ol' song 'n dance.
zoen151 @ May 1st 2007 6:02PM
Oops... sorry about the double post. My bad.
Saigon @ May 1st 2007 6:18PM
We're already getting castlevania. :)
Andrew @ May 1st 2007 7:38PM
Why the hell does every hate mario... i mean sure he gets annoying at times but its probably the main reason DS is outselling the PSP... to tell the truth if there ever magically was a mario game on the PSP we would be first... the fact is DS appeals to the little ones, Nintendo Fanboys, and yet still has some damn good hardcore games for the 20 year olds... the problme i have with the PSP is it only appeals to hardcore sony fans... but hey i have both i and i don't regret either... and plus mario would be alot of fun to play if they put him on hiatus for a while...
PSP-Rising @ May 1st 2007 8:10PM
I don't hate Mario per say, it's just ENOUGH IS ENOUGH , I mean how many incarnations of the SAME THING do we need?? I am not hard core Sony either, hell I am not even soft core Sony.... Mario appeals to my kids, but since they have gotten older the appeal is wearing off as they want and crave not so simplistic games. I love the PSP for all the genres is does so well. If you pointed a gun to my head and said what MARIO game do you want I would like to see Super Mario Sunshine I know that was Gamecube but that's about as close as I can get.
kingofwale @ May 1st 2007 8:20PM
@Andrew
Mario is fun. absolutely, at 1990, When Nintendo starts putting Mario in every bloody games ever made, it just starts to get boring and repetitive. Now, I have nothing against people who go out and buy every iteration of Mario. That's just not me.
PSP isn't really targeted at ONLY Sony fans, it just hasn't really touched most gamers yet. I still believes (even after 2nd birthday), PSP is still way too ahead of its time for its own good. We see what it can do (in Tekken, GTA and MGS) but most developers just don't know how to design a good PSP game, the result is either horrible gameplay or crappy camera angel.
Trust me, PSP has probably 7-10 years life-span, you will start seeing developers getting to know how to work around the camera things and then you will see a good string of A games.
PSP-Rising @ May 1st 2007 9:40PM
I hope Sony does stay in the Hand Held game but honestly 7-10 years is a little long for the same portable, gee in that amount of time Nintendo might have a hand held that is as powerful :)
I hope that if after say 4 years (max) that they release psp2 with say maybe a portable cell processor version among other goodies...
shaoron @ May 1st 2007 11:16PM
wow! this article is almost saying that the PSP doesn't have enough games to compete against the DS!
oh [expletive]! what have a i done!?
[puts on anti-flamming helmet and runs away]
PSP_#1 @ May 1st 2007 11:24PM
hehe I almost got that impression as well even though I am a devout PSP fan.... sounds like the poster is missing his DS

Re: "Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk are NOT good games."
... RIGHT ... and neither are Halo, Oblivion, or Dead Rising.
