Battle of the ports: PaRappa versus Crazy Taxi

If you haven't noticed, the PSP Fanboy team is totally "t3h b145!!!1" We've been bashing Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars for its sloppy Dreamcast-era graphics. However, we've been going totally gaga for the barely enhanced PaRappa the Rapper. Isn't that unfair? We're going to let you, the PSP Fanboy reader, tell us which of these hotly anticipated PSP ports we should be more excited for. Just check out the videos after the cut, and tell us which one you want more. If you're digging both of them, feel free to vote for both. Of course, if you're feeling particularly jaded today, you can also admit that maybe we shouldn't get so excited over ports--don't we have too many already?

I went PaRappa...never had it for the PS and it is more unique than Crazy Taxi (which I have for the GBA).
kingofwale @ May 3rd 2007 3:41PM
i went with "neither"
not that I have anything against ports, I just have EVERYTHING against porting of already average games.
if you want to port, Port FFX or Okami or Shadow. or ICO
don't port already bad games.
Miles Pieri @ May 3rd 2007 3:55PM
While the PSP obviously doesn't need any more ports (especially ports of games that have been around for years, as these two have) I really want this Parappa game - the graphics, music and humor of the original are still incredibly fresh and it's so well suited to a handheld. If we *must* have ports of old PS1 games, I'd like more like this (and maybe a Jumping Flash compilation, while we're at at.)
rabe7thebest @ May 3rd 2007 3:57PM
I am not excited..at all.
Colin @ May 3rd 2007 4:03PM
@miles
Jumping Flash is available through the PSN if you have a PS3 as of tommorrow (or a friend with one)

Say what you want about Crazy Taxi but it was a good game and it sold very well. It might look dated but it still was a very fun game, you can say it was bad but that's only your opinion and not that of most reviews. It's average rating was 9.1. I hope that they do update the graphics for the PSP but I think it is already getting a bad rap here, a place for PSP fans?

About ports:

as can be seen above, the PSP has a lot more non-ports than ports
Yashamaru @ May 3rd 2007 6:21PM
To everyone that gets mad at all the people that hate ports. It's not the ports, so much as the price of an old outdated game.
lets see $6 for a psx game or $40-50 for a port of the same game..
muppetmeth @ May 3rd 2007 6:26PM
My vote put PaRappa OvEr TeH eDgEEE!!!
Michael @ May 3rd 2007 6:36PM
I went all 3. Next time give 'radio button' a try ;-)

I have nothing against ports either, just have no interest in either of these games.
Wish I didn't have to vote against ports in general (which I don't think is necessarily a bad thing) to express my lack of interest in these two PARTICULAR ports.
merc25 @ May 3rd 2007 7:19PM
kingofwale, ignorance doesn't suit you please research the games in question next time.
With that out of the way, I want the rapp'n dog G(I love the demo for the PS).
kingofwale @ May 3rd 2007 7:32PM
@merc25
I'm sorry, I have to leave ignorance to people who truly good at it. like yourself.
what makes you think I don't know? Feel free to read the reports of hands-on with Crazy Taxi. Both game will be horrible and further install the stereotype that PSP has no games but ports.
PSP-Rising @ May 3rd 2007 8:25PM
kingofwale you stated post #2
"don't port already bad games." this is not implying the hands on for the PSP version of crazy taxi. You are saying that an already established game that did very well in the market was a bad game. I understand it was a bad game in your opinion but that does not rationalize the reviews given to this game by both users and reviwers alike. They gave it very good reviews.
kingofwale @ May 3rd 2007 8:53PM
>You are saying that an already established game that did very well in the market was a bad game.
I never said it was a 'bad' game, I said it was an "average" game. now, I have nothing against Taxi, it was at the time, beautiful to look at, a great arcade game to play. But then again, that was 7 years ago.
and to port that to a system like PSP with WORSE graphics than on 7 yr old game is absolutely unacceptable.
and frankly, if this is going to come out as a full game, it lacks depth terribly. Why should I pay for this at full price when I can play my GTA's taxi mission as a "MINI game"?
A lot of games has high replay values, like FFVII, those games age well because they have fantastic storylines, this is definitely not the case here.
PSP-Rising @ May 3rd 2007 9:00PM
DUDE THIS IS YOUR POST

What does your last statement say??????
"don't port already bad games." EMPHASIZE already
How much more clear can you be??
yes the graphics are 7 years old thats not the point I am only making the point of your statement.
Whether or not the game is good or bad, whether or not you like it again I will say that the original game was a good game, had great reviews and was fun to play. If the bring the game out with just a little updated graphics then it will still be fun.
kingofwale @ May 3rd 2007 9:15PM
it's just a statement saying 'don't port bad games'.. If you read my FIRST paragraph, I clearly said porting 'average' game.
Of course, if you want to think about it, by comparing to games like Shadow, FFVII and ICO, those two could be considered 'bad', I'm not saying they were at their time,
but wow, played PaRappa the Rapper 2 on PSP and it was TERRIBLE!!
Taxi is reported to have BOTH graphic problem and frame-rate problem. yeah, not going to look forward to it. and frankly, PaRappa the Rapper jumped the shark already.
I don't know why everybody is so for this. we should demand Sony to port GREAT games. just look how well FF1 is doing on PSP in Japan, 5th on the top game list that includes Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings and Paper Mario. Wow
s2asd1sadfs1 @ May 3rd 2007 9:15PM
why dont they just port some saturn games instead of just ps1 games? I mean bug! panzer dragon saga, shining force 3, princess crown (in english), nights, etc.
kokoro @ May 3rd 2007 9:25PM
@s2asd1sadfs1
in short, Sega is buddy-buddy with Nintendo now. so, Nights is already coming out to VC, I believe.
of course, giving PSP's hmmm... ability, there's always a way to get around it. *wink wink*
kingofwale @ May 3rd 2007 9:26PM
Oh, btw.
Kokoro = kingofwale
there's this wild thing going on, and just so everybody knows.
merc25 @ May 3rd 2007 10:26PM
kingofwale, sad thing is Square rather milk the first six FFs to an early grave rather than allow their later FFs on any download network. But with the remake of FFT, I think Square will remake the 7, 9, an even 8(maybe they can give it a *half-way* decent story and battle system this time). Of course these are just my thoughts on Square at this moment, I could wind up being woefully wrong.
What are your views on the reason why square won't remake or redistribute some of their most successful FF titles, king?
brendan_ngo @ May 3rd 2007 10:43PM
whats the point of pappa the rapper (w/e) you can get the japanese version that is already out and it includes english.
kingofwale @ May 3rd 2007 11:14PM
@merc25
Enix milking? you obviously don't own a Nintendo console. ;)
Isn't Crisis Core coming out soon?
oh, and we don't see a remake of later FF games is probably because with all the cut-scene, the game is too massive.
still, didn't stop me from playing it on my PSP tho.
Aaron Walker @ May 4th 2007 1:40AM
If we are going to talk about ports, why isn't there a port of Soul Caliber for the PSP? That's a port I would be interested in!
Alien @ May 4th 2007 8:47AM
Deffinatly Crazy taxi , though Im afraid that it will be a flop :(
G Lampa @ May 4th 2007 10:53AM
I wish they would revamp and port over Vagrant Story.
