Home beta launches in North America!

Following the beta launch of Home in Europe on Monday, it appears that the beta has gone live in North America as well. A poster on the official PlayStation forums said that the Home beta had appeared in the PlayStation Store along with all the other new content and was available to download (alas, only for people accepted into the closed beta).
One of our readers confirmed this as well and even sent in some screenshots to prove it. Check them out!
[Thanks, Matt Pizzashack!]

why do people in that screenshot talk like bunch of tools?
"You are really Cool"??
"How's your Day Jimmy"?
"Wow, that's really Swell"
Justin @ May 3rd 2007 6:14PM

but they look like pre-selected text lines.

i think its crap how u get slected.the home beata trial site hasnt even let you register yet.it just says keep checking back.why cant they let a lil more info about how to get selected out like bungie and microsoft did with halo?how are they going to know if this is going to even catch on if they dont let some of us who play games a good deal but may not be as hardcore as some are try this out?give people other than the ones in clubs and the elite few who beata test all the time a chance to try this out.games should be a lil more open to letting the general public test some of them out.i mean i uderstand to let pros test for tech issues but let that happen then a little down the line let the public in on some of it and get their opinions too.

did he say how big it is? Im worried because I have the 20 GB PS3
deftblue @ May 3rd 2007 8:35PM
I'm downloading my beta now.
Colin.Torretta @ May 3rd 2007 8:36PM
Andy,
I'm sure you're fine, though they don't mention the size. I'm assuming it will be 1-2 GB in size, at the very most.
So unless you've filled up your hard drive with videos, you should be okay. :)

@Colin

this is so damn depressing. I've on top of this damn home beta since day one and they leave me out in the cold. It burns me up. The whole G.A.P. thing is seeming more and more like BS to me as time goes by. They really only do care about a very select few people's interests and comments, plus there is still no DIRECT contact to anyone involved with sony to be able to vent concerns. It all just blows.
Micheal @ May 3rd 2007 9:45PM
I got mine on launch day and I'm not in the beta, thats ridiculous
sean @ May 3rd 2007 9:47PM
how did they know to hok it up to your account? im a GAP member but my PSN account isnt set up to their site or anything? was it a question in the survey or something?
Magma @ May 3rd 2007 9:52PM
I'll have to agree with #10, that's such bullshit that they would screw over all the people who were so on top of it..
John @ May 4th 2007 12:02AM
well, Chevron and magma, recent events seem to show that they are aware of this particular website. I understand the frustration, but let's just say you never will: so what do you do?
Just post what you would like, in realistic terms.
Your above comments don't show what you want to see, but you could...
Zumbi @ May 4th 2007 2:20AM
Its called the Playstation Underground forums. That is how you get to be a GAP member(if you are chosen). But I am in GAP, I got the invite but I haven't been selected to get into home, yet. I am Homeless :(
The Download was 256mb from what I have read.
ill trooper @ May 4th 2007 5:42AM
So many pics of people downloading it... But are there any pics of people wandering around in Home? I mean other than the main imagery that we've seen in the trailer or the Sony presentation a few months back?
Is it up and running?
Popfrogs @ May 6th 2007 11:53PM
@Zumbi:
I'm in the same boat with you. I joined GAP, got the t-shirt and membership cards, have answered every single poll including Singstar stuff, got the invite and then....nothing. No 'sorry you didn't make it in' or 'welcome to the club'. No Home Beta download in the store. WTF Sony?

You can find a lot of screens over here: http://www.ps3party.nl/nieuws/item/34145/

hey Andy, I too had a 20 GB ps3. you can upgrade yours to 200 GB for around $150 (newegg.com) since the harddrive used in a PS3 is the same found in most of the laptops.. Replacing the drives are very easy. Copying data too is very easy. All you have to do is to backup the data into an IPOD or some USB drive and then bring em back after installing the new drive.
Nick @ May 7th 2007 8:33AM
You definately need to read this then..http://blogurself.com/blog/2007/05/07/nintendo-scrambles-to-get-back-on-top/

@k.c. #20:
what's that website for upgrading the hard drive on the 20gig ps3? And I have another question... still kind of off topic, but what the hell.
Anyone know how to go about "upgrading" my 20 gig to a 60 gig ps3? I have the paper that says 1 year limited warranty, I was wondering if I could call up sony and tell them "my ps3's been acting screwy, can I get a replacement? Oh, and if I throw in another $100 bucks could I get a 60gig model?"
Does anyone know if that would work? or would it be better to just it stick on e-bay? I'm sure upgrading the 60gig's hard drive to 200gb afterward wouldn't be any different than the 20gig version.
