PLAYSTATION Network and Store upgrade next week!

"Over the next few weeks, some new and exciting changes will take place in the PLAYSTATION®Store. In preparation for this, both PLAYSTATION®Network and PLAYSTATION®Store need to be taken offline for a short while to allow us to carry out the upgrade and maintenance work. This is scheduled to take place between 16:00 and 19:00 BST (17:00-20:00 CEST) on Tuesday 8th May 2007.
We are hoping to complete this work in as short a time as possible and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. But remember that these enhancements are paving the way for new and exciting content that we have planned for the Store!"
Upgrades to the Store and Network? New and exciting content? Sounds darn good to me. I think I can deal with the Network going down for something like that. I'm hoping they make the Store a little easier to browse myself. What upgrades to the PLAYSTATION Store would you guys like?

Just EU has released this though?

How about they make it more like Live and less like the vomit in a toilet look.. i thought this 600 dollar system was supposed to be cutting edge.. it looks like they recruited web developers from high school.

@Mike D:
Or more like they just recruited web developers. That's my biggest annoyance with the playstation store right now, it's just a damn web page. It is very hard to navigate since you have to press left/right until you get to the link you want, sometimes being forced to scroll through a long block of text if it is in the way. Or you could try your luck at positioning the cursor on the screen with the thumbstick, which sucks.
They should really try to come up with an interface that makes more sense given the controller that everyone is using. Seems more like an afterthought the way it is right now.
With that said, I wouldn't get your hopes up. These are likely just behind-the-scenes changes and not a reworking of the store interface. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Well...I would think you would see better controller integration when the store is part of HOME. In the mean time...keyboards ARE pretty cheap.

I would like a redsign, better look and better navigation. Redo the whole thing. I like the content thats out right now but it would be nice to have some new music or movie section. Try and take over the best parts of live.

I'd say that I'd like to see it be less web-page-ish as well when it comes to the store.
As for the network, I'd love to see it become more standardized for all games to share friends lists, so I would have to find and add them for each game that is online. Streaming video would be nice too.
As a side note, how do people who don't read up on products ever find when stuff like this is happening? When the network goes down, I wonder what they are thinking.
I know there has to be lots of consol owners that don't follow up on the latest information, because it seems like most of the people at my work just own a system and wait for things to catch their eye in the display cases at the store.
I also wonder if these type of people don't really notice some of the problems with their consols that we do because nobody has told them how much better it could be. For example, I'm not so sure that regular consumer realizes why the Xbox Elite is actually a really poor deal; or the lower caliber PS3.

I'd like to see PS1 games for download that don't suck. How about some cool RPG's??? Maybe Grandia or Persona 1 & 2??? These are games for which there are sequels coming out or are already out, so it would make total sense to make them available to users, wouldn't it?

Jet Moto is an awesome game. I would love to see some of Sony's PS1 franchises made into next gen PS3 games.

I want it to be more responsive.. going from the XMB to the store is annoying.. too much lag between button press and onscreen response.
massive_98 @ May 4th 2007 5:17PM
I don't care much about the PS store. I just want more devoloper support for online PS3 games. Sony is the only one making an effort to improve this situation.

Always good to hear. We still don't have PS1 games on the Australian PS Store... I have to buy them off the American Store.
MacBandit @ May 4th 2007 11:33PM
How about video and music downloads?
DPR @ May 5th 2007 8:56AM
Sony, please add some more stuff to the UK PStore... It is seriously lacking compared to what I have seen and heard about other Stores.
Also, I think you should make it so that on pressing the PStore button on the main XMB, you launch into a "Store XMB", which is the same sort of arcitecture as the main XMB. This would make it really easy to browse and it would fit the PS3 and SIXAXIS perfectly.
Colin Robertson @ May 5th 2007 12:23PM
Personally I wouldn't care if the store jsut looked like a big list of games that are a available sorted in Alphabetical order with teh price beside them...but it better be a big long list!
Just now on the UK store the selection is crap and that, IMHO is far worse than any dodgy interface.
Colin @ May 5th 2007 2:44PM
The revamp is to get ready for the launch of SingStar (as it will rely on the the PSN for the social networking part of the game)...EU is getting the revamp first since that is deemed to be the market for that game.
massive_98 @ May 5th 2007 2:51PM
Yay!
Maxx @ May 6th 2007 3:21PM
How about a freakin PS Store/points card. You know like 360 and Wii both have.
ekbigpimping @ May 6th 2007 9:24PM
