Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core still looks beautiful
All this hype about Final Fantasy Dissidius may have distracted you from Square Enix's other big exclusive heading to PSP. Crisis Core, the prequel to Final Fantasy VII, pushes the system to graphical limits many have never dreamed possible on a handheld. New (blurry) screenshots from The Magic Box show off some more of this incredible-looking game; they simply must be seen to be believed.
As the Square Enix party continues to draw near, it's clear that PSP fans will have a deluge of information to sort through. Can you feel that anticipation already dripping down your pants?
[Update: There's also a new scan, revealing a new character named Loveless. Thanks, Joe!]

Sorry to burst your bubble, but those are not new screenshots. Those shots are from one of the trailers. It was even available to watch in this post you guys made:

Nothing new unfortunately. Ohh well, hopefully the game is near completion my now.

when is this game being released
kingofwale @ May 8th 2007 8:43PM
Still, by far the best graphics (more so than GoW) and most interesting gameplay-wise game I've seen on PSP.
I see the announce of Final Fantasy Dissidius as an positive (other than having another game to look forward to), this probably shows Crisis Core is at its end of production. (Sorry, I just don't see Enix take on 2 PSP blockbuster at once, I don't think they have the resources for that).
Don't be surprise if an actual release date for CC is announced at the party.

Re "Don't be surprise if an actual release date for CC is announced at the party."
I think we're all hoping for that ... it looks like in a week we'll be complaining that there is too *much* information flowing out about all of these cool games ... but I think we'll manage ;)
Alien @ May 9th 2007 8:04AM
CC still looks batter than most PSP games , but lets be honest , they had more than 3 years to work o the game and its still not announced when it will got released :?

Re: Alien
I agree - but I think they are up against a monumental task. 1.8GB on a UMD, UMD with slow load times, having to pump a ton of data to the system, not wanting 4 minute WWE-style load-times ... not a trivial job. They want to deliver the ultimate PSP experience. I'm willing to cut them more slack, but it is getting old ...
kingofwale @ May 9th 2007 9:26AM
Let's face it, 1.8 is HUGE amount of space for a game (maybe not if you talk about next gen console), but for an handheld, it should be enough. Most PSP games out right now don't even come close to that 1.8 limit. if Enix does this right, they can easily fit 40 hours of playtime on this with everything they promised.
and, we will find out the fate about this game very soon.

Can someone explain to me sort of how this game works? I'm unfamiliar with FF of any kind. I see all these pictures of emo looking people in spandex. I understand it's an RPG of some kind, but, briefly, how does it work? Sort of like Neverwinter Nights, where it's turn based on a grid? Is gameplay top-down, or first person, or third person? I assume those scenes above (someone mentioned they're from the trailer) are cut scenes?
I'm really curious.

from the various short video of gameplaying action I saw. I believe its closest comparison PSP game would be Valhalla Knight. Open world, I believe you get to see your enemies. you approach them, you get into this battle screen (with no load time, according to reports from people who had hand-on experience with this game) and you do your magic and your melee. There's is 3 spinning wheel (like slot machines) and you get boost base on the outcome of the spin. I believe if you match all three, you unleash some super cool GF move.
Definitely go to youtube and check out the videos.

To Jeff:
Traditionally the FF's are very roam-free type of gameplay. Now in the bigger older playstation FF titles like FF7, you run around kind of like pokemon and then something will pop up and you'll enter battle mode. In battle mode, you control the characters and what kind of attack/magic/item they do/use. This is turn based though, so your characters will attack, and theyres will attack... of course theres speed issues and stuff all integrated. In other FFs, they introduced different style of turn-play and in some you have a certain control in making them attack first and stuff. In FFXII, you see the monsters on the field, and these lines will sort of connect to your character telling you that either somethign is pursuing you or you are pursuing some other monster.
It has been noted that CC will have a style like FFXII as kingofwale just stated.
If you want a good background to this game, you can always play FF7, or even watching FF7: Advent Children will give you a better idea =). Cheers.

OH didnt answer your other questions.
I'm completely guessing here, but I believe the 2/3/5th ones are probably gameplay-like. Theres a pretty big distinction between those and the 1st/4th.
Anyway, its a good idea to check out FF =) Some of the most intense storylines ever done, best music, and fantastic gameplay. I'm not too sure how all the FFs connect to each otehr. I believe theres an article SOMEWHERE about the different FF worlds. IMHO emphasis on the H (humble), the only series that tops this is Metal Gear Solid lol.
kingofwale @ May 9th 2007 8:37PM
are you sure it's 'turn base'? It looks more like free-roaming during battle.
or more like in "Vagrant Story", you take turn, but you can ONLY attack when your in range with enemy.
I have no doubt if this game delivers on its promise, it will be the best game on PSP. It's up to GoW and DMC to out-do Enix.

The first one under the text seems new (I know Seph has awesome sword skills, but haven't seen a pic like that before), but the others seem to be from the trailer...
