LittleBigPlanet -- some information and new screenshots

- The SIXAXIS controls are amazingly intuitive: the D-pad selects a variety of facial features, the analog sticks act as ways to wave your arms (L2 and R2, when pressed, allow independent arm movement with the two sticks), then tilting the controller actually moves the character's head. Combining these all in a variety of ways will cause the character to move differently (dejected shuffle, happy jaunt, etc).
- Your character is the game's star and designer, from the article: "A button press brings up a thought-bubble menu system, and a cursor that's tethered to your character by a luminous colour-coded kite string. With this you can place objects in the world, decide their physical properties, move them, reshape them, create new ones from scratch, apply stickers, paint pictures, add sound, import photos, design costumes ..."
- No word on a submission process for getting these levels out there for others to play, but the possibilities are huge and there's nothing like watching some friends come over and try to play your impossible level designs. A worry is cost -- copyrighted material (like a Mario Bros. stage remade), porno plastered everywhere, etc., will really add up the cost of red tape and moderating the program.
There's plenty more to read, don't get us wrong. Talk about the game's physics, implementation and more await you. We felt the above three points were pretty cool sounding and important pieces of information to consider. There are also some cool screenshots over at Edge-Online. Who else is excited for this game?

no comments? I will be the first to say...I WANT THIS GAME NOW!!!

I want this game too, but frankly I'm sick of the SIXAXIS. Motion sensing is fine on the Wii where that's the whole appeal of it, but this half-assed tilting in addition to the controls is just aggravating. There are more than enough buttons on the controller to do everything so lets just use them. I've yet to see a game implement the tilt feature in a way that is more pleasurable or efficient than just using the buttons/sticks.

Can't wait for Little Big Planet.
Also, It seems strange that a site like ps3fanboy.com can't be viewed on the PS3 browser. What's up with that?

Yeah i agree that you should at least be able to fully customise the controls (on every game!!) but where would you reassign the sixaxis part to for this game? It sounds like both analog sticks are taken for the arm movement and such.

The porno and profanity is straight forward.. its Sony's network and you agree to the EULA to use it. Break it and get banned... its not an issue of free speech.

add sound...!! like BG music for each level?! now that would be awesome adding some anti-flag or rancid in a punk-type of level

How can you be sick of sixaxis? It is barely used in the games available right now.
Save Sony so much needed money and just keep things on the up and up for this game(or any game for that matter)
Any money you save them could be spent on buying exclusives.

@Thejulman, I have trouble viewing any of the sites on this server with my ps3 browser, though it used to work alright... I am really looking forward to this game and as for sixaxis, you have to give it some time for devs to come up with good ways to use it and then it should be really cool.

I hate to ask a stupid question, but, well, all those controls were discussed, there was no mention of how you actually MOVE the character. I had originally assumed it was the D pad since the sticks were used for the arms, but clearly that's not the case.
So does anyone know how you actually move the character around?
Whubbsie @ May 16th 2007 9:31PM
Will power and luck?

@Stef
"L2 and R2, when pressed, allow independent arm movement with the two sticks"
You'd need to be holding L2+R2 in order to start flapping arms around it seems.
Might have been nicer if you only needed R2 to activate Right stick movements, but its quite possible those shoulder buttons will have their own actions individually, but combined activates more freedoms in the characters movement.
The more i hear about this title the more im looking forward to it, not reeeally something id consider, but the whole concept and approach just seems so positive, i just hope it turns out to be everything its being built up to be.

Such a shame this game is probably going to not even manage to sell a million copies.
It looks to be one of the most truly innovative games in years, if not one of the most innovative games ever.
