Crisis Core almost done, to feature 100 hours of gameplay
According to a new interview with the Crisis Core team, the PSP-exclusive prequel to Final Fantasy VII can feature up to 100 hours of gameplay. Tabata, one of the game's producers, admits that the title is about 90% complete, with compressing everything to fit on UMD one of the few remaining tasks for the development team. The game's main story will most likely take players about 30 hours, but "getting all of the materia in the missions and going out into Midgar for Sub-Events" can boost play time to the triple digits.
Crisis Core is certainly not the last project in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. The project's end will be determined by the likes of Nomura and Kitase. Fans of the series can expect a "wonderful" special edition, with details to follow soon.

YEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I just wet my pants, TWICE!
But 100 hours of gameplay means 10000000000000 hours of translation :-( I guess I have to wait *at least* a year or so for it to be released in Europe :(

I think Crisis Core should be on 2 UMD... I'm willing to pay 50 bucks for it. (I would pay for 70 bucks, but I need the extra 20 for an another pair of underwear 'cause I also wet myself)
txa1265 @ May 28th 2007 8:59PM
70 hours of fetch quests and repetitive get the materials quests? Sounds fun ;)
Amar @ May 28th 2007 10:04PM
OH...MY....GOD! One....Hundred...Hours? This must be a gift from the gaming gods! If it's about 90% done, is there a possiblity that the Japanese release will move from September 13 to something earlier? Because then North American players can get it in December or something.
Amar @ May 28th 2007 10:16PM
OH...MY...GOD! 100 HOURS! I **** MY PANTS RIGHT NOW AND I CAN'T STOP! That is amazing! KingofWale is right too, we should have it in 2 UMD's. I would pay 50 bucks for it.

See, that is what I wanted to hear: A long game. I was worried that the action element might turn this into a tasty, but brief beat 'em up RPG. But yes, this will capture the ambience of Final Fantasy - long - epic - full of side quests. Good.
txa1265 @ May 29th 2007 8:03AM
Long, full of repetitive 'need to grind here' stuff ;)
Just bustin' - RPG is my fave genre!
MrBlank @ May 29th 2007 9:22AM
Yeah! 100 hours. I'll only have to charge my PSP 20 times to finish it. :-P

->6 "I think Crisis Core should be on 2 UMD... "
ahh...
noo...
1.8 GIGs or so should be more than enough space for a portable game. Using your theory, great DS games should be on 9999 carts (swapping carts/umds alone is a lot of fun).
kingofwale @ May 29th 2007 12:57PM
>Using your theory, great DS games should be on 9999 carts
nah, Pokemon game is only on one. but then again, if you define using the recycled graphic from GB from 1997 as "great DS game of 2007". ;)
and yes, if you have a DS game that will expand to 100 hours and in 3D (I know it's hard for DS fans to imagine that, but please bear with me here), it doesn't take a genius to realize it will have a TOUGH time compress it to 1.8 GB.
and I have no idea why people are against this. How many CDs were there in FFVII?? and then again in FFVIII?? Enix isn't exactly a stranger to multi-disk games.

Re: "if you have a DS game that will expand to 100 hours and in 3D (I know it's hard for DS fans to imagine that, but please bear with me here)"
OK, since you started the "PSP is better than the sucky DS" thing ...
Have you *heard* of Etrian Odyssey? It is something that the DS does masterfully, has no load times, and is better than *any* PSP RPG - and lasts dozens upon dozens of hours.
kingofwale @ May 29th 2007 7:25PM
>is better than *any* PSP RPG
it's SUCH an relative thing. the game isn't exactly getting great reviews out there. Game Informer gave it 5.7/10; Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) gave it 4/10. GamePro gave it 3/5 and IGn gave it 7.4/10.
now, as for loadtime, PSP is CAPABLE of short loadtime, mainly from pre-loading, but most game developers are too lazy to impliment it.
Oh, and I never called "DS" sucky,
zoen151 @ May 29th 2007 10:27PM
Wow, it appears that I started mass urination amongst us. Sorry about the mess. Anyways, does anyone know if you have allies that actually fight alongside you in this game? Or are you fighting alone the entire time? Thanks in advance.
txa1265 @ May 29th 2007 10:32PM
My basic point - the DS is plenty capable of hundred plus hour RPG's ... and without all the teen angst and non-gameplay cutscenes.
I wonder how many hours of *gameplay* there are in those 30 hours? I have heard that from FF7 on the cutscene to gameplay ratio has gone way up (not good).
kingofwale @ May 29th 2007 11:31PM
>the DS is plenty capable of hundred plus hour RPG's
woah woah, where did it say that game is capable of 100 hours of gameplay?
and I'm starting to think those so-called 'teen angst' game SHOULD only be allowed to play by teens.
Kade Storm @ May 30th 2007 2:39AM
TXA - "Have you *heard* of Etrian Odyssey? It is something that the DS does masterfully, has no load times, and is better than *any* PSP RPG - and lasts dozens upon dozens of hours."
Dozens of hours worth of repetitive grinding, I assume? ;p
txa1265 @ May 30th 2007 6:20AM
Etrian Odyssey is a game that is built around hardcore RPG fans, not 'console kiddies' who look at FF7 as an 'early' RPG. It is a dungeon crawler with turn-based combat that is *extremely* difficult and lasts tons of hours. But it is addictive and satisfying.
But honestly - what RPG isn't about a constant grind? Final Fantasy games (at least the 6 I've played) are wrapped around them, as are pretty much every PC RPG I've played.
So what I'm saying is that saying there is potential for 100 hours with a 30 hour core quest means little to me - but then I also see and agree with the point that the game could easy have been 'Fable-ized' ... turned into a action-y 15 hour game. So I'm very glad that there is considerable breadth to the experience - and I'm sure since it is Squeenix it will be very high quality ... and I just hope that the combat system (the one thing that seems to not be uniformly praised in previews) works out well.
Kade Storm @ May 30th 2007 8:12AM
...I do like hack and slash, so I hope the system works. In the recent years, I'm getting a tad bit tired of turn-based RPGs, which is why I enjoyed Lunar Knights.
kingofwale @ May 30th 2007 9:58AM
if you mean that the game is diffcult and the fact people have to replay a level over and over again. If that's the reason why it's 100 hours game, that really doesn't count. :)
the truth remains, that game is just not good. I would rather take an ENJOYABLE 40-50 hours game, than an painful 100 hours game ANYTIME.
Steve @ Jun 7th 2007 10:26PM
18. Anyways, does anyone know if you have allies that actually fight alongside you in this game? Or are you fighting alone the entire time? Thanks in advance.
I think you do, it would be even cooler if you used ad hoc to do multiplayer co-op, that would pwn

"Have you *heard* of Etrian Odyssey? It is something that the DS does masterfully, has no load times, and is better than *any* PSP RPG - and lasts dozens upon dozens of hours."
I didn't know that game was way better than any PSP RPG's...wo what you're basically saying is that that SAME game will ALWAYS be better than EVERY PSP RPG's that are already out and the ones that AREN'T out...say Crisis Core? Way to go with your non-rapier posts..
blabla @ Jun 10th 2007 4:56PM
look this is going to be a grate game bottom line. and you sound like you your a DS fan boy so why are you even looking at PSP news???? oh wait i got in because the DS is a over hyped game cube with no real inovation there for its not even in the same comparison as the PSP in games or other wise oh wait there is no other wise with DS
bronxdutch @ Jul 13th 2007 4:49PM
this game is gonna be hot, the psp is finaly foing 2 get a worhwhile rpg, not that there havent been other good rpg's. but lets be real, this one is gonna blow them all away. and if u can get ur hands on this and the new psp thats coming out, u should be set 4 those 100 hours of play. they should have a combo pack.
