Championship Sprint motors hits PSN tomorrow, we're still bored.
The PlayStation Store seems to be on a mind-numbing sprint through the bargain bin of old classics, however this recent entry might struggle with even that very definition. Championship Sprint was an arcade treat in its heyday, but without the acrid smell of burnt pizza cheese permeating the air and the ching-ching-ching of tokens being dispensed nearby, we're not sure reliving this classic on the PS3 is going to evoke the same sense of guilty pleasure we once experienced. Pray tell, why exactly would anyone care to relive this classic without standing at the machine itself with a vice-like grip on the steering wheel (sans Force Feedback, we might add)? There is plenty of ripe fruit in the Sony catalog, so where are the classic gems from the lucrative and expansive PlayStation gallery? How many times can we ask for Twisted Metal? How about SOCOM? Honestly, lets skip the brussel sprouts and head right for the ice cream.
For interested parties, Championship Sprint hits the PlayStation Store tomorrow, on May 31st, for $4.99. We suppose it's better than nothing, but not by much. Comments and suggestions on preferred PlayStation Store titles would be a fantastic addition here, so post away. Give Sony some ideas! Now, if you don't mind, we're heading back to the recesses of our couch to complete our Pirates of the Caribbean Blu-ray marathon. Wake us up when something more worthwhile is on.

I think Sony needs to not only focus on PS1 games (not arcade titles that are old as dirt) but PS1 games that are really good. Syphon Filter and Medieval are great games, but that's about it on the playstation store. I would LOVE to see Colony Wars on the PSN store, as well as Metal Gear Solid or FFVII for cheap. Also, Sony needs to give us AT LEAST ONE new demo every week. There are tons of games coming out in the fall, and this exclusive beta testing crap isn't cutting it when hardly anyone gets an invite. I'd love to play a demo for NASCAR 08, Heavenly Sword, Little Big Planet, etc. I know that it takes time to make demos available, but there's playable demos at the game shows so why not make it available to the PS3 nation? Plus, I'd love to see some videos that show up on IGN and gametrailers as well as exclusive videos to Playstation owners about upcoming games (such as interviews). It's a lot to ask, but i'm tired of hearing how much better xbox live is compared to what Sony offers. They need to step it up and put microsoft in their place. I know Home will help, but that's still months away.

It would also be kinda neat if the playstation store's coming soon icon would also show what might be coming out next week, so I have things to look forward to in a week instead of just sittin here hoping there will be a good update tomorrow.

How bout they make Online play work with PS2 games, i bought an early PS2 and never got a network adapter for it.
Having all Platinum/Greatest Hits games work would be a good move too since they are the ones which have sold best.
It would be nice if Sony made an add on (USB or BT) which would allow ps2 memory cards and controllers to be used, as opposed to just memory cards, and perhaps release it in Europe (haven't seen any for sale here [New Zealand]).
An official PVR add on, or access via the XMB to a USB one would be a very welcome addition and a major selling point too

Wow, Sprint. You should be proud Sony. Next time I don't want to know when you drop these turds.
P.S. Where is Lair?
Mishi @ May 31st 2007 1:20AM

I dont want old psn games. We need some beautiful multiplayer games that utilize 7 player online co op and physics. Lets get some sweet brand new 3D games out there that help start new franchises.

Are you guys serious? I don't know how much money I've put into playing this game, I'm defiantly going to pick this one up.

Oi, nothing against Brussel Sprouts! They rock, dude...
And more on topic: I agree!

Man... The PSN updates are so slow that I have to open it once every 2 weeks to find some new stuff and once every month to find some new AND interesting stuff. It`s so sad.

I want to see some more good PS1 games. I would also like to see Coolboarders and Hot Shots Golf 2 converted over for play on the PS3.
Rae @ May 31st 2007 8:48AM
I had networking just fine in PS2 games. What PS2 game are you trying to use via the network. I had Socom II working just fine and SSX working just fine.

Oh you lucky Americans! Calling All Cars, Joust and now Championship Motorsprint, count yourselves VERY LCUKY!
Over the pond in good old Europe (England to be precise), we got QBert a couple of weeks ago for the very odd price of £2.02.
I've got some mates coming round this coming weekend and they'll want to see the PS3 in action. I can show them MotorStorm and Resistance (both very good games, especially on-line) but I wont know what to say when they ask about downloadable content. It's going to be embarrassing.

Sushi-X @ May 31st 2007 1:32PM
All I want to know is when is Talisman coming to the PSN... Bring it NOW!!
alienclay @ May 31st 2007 3:11PM
i used to boast that psn was more about original games that took advantage of the ps3 (like flow and blast factor. tekken dark ressurection is still some of the best $20 in gaming ive ever spent in my entire life.) but with all these midway arcade games clogging up the updates (esp at $5, joust should be 2 or 3 at most) i'm starting to shut my mouth.
ps1 games are many in number and can fill in a great nice untill more original games come out. the engine is already in place, it shouldn't take all that much to convert over or even possibly improve on(Philiosima, and intelligent qube come to mind.) just browse ebay for the ps1 games with the highest prices to get your inspiration. but the real power should come from more original games. the 360 will always be held back in this by the inconsistancy of the hard drive presence, while viturial console will always be stuck with old nes/snes and rare n64 ports and questionable SD storage space. kick them in the ju-ju-bees with more content that can't be matched.

I love this game. I remember spending hours upon hours and quarters upon quarters on this game trying to max out my ride.
John @ May 31st 2007 5:45PM
How about Diablo or GTA 1 & 2??
cell @ Jun 15th 2007 6:54PM
I would love to see einhander for PS1 on the network, also dont bring games that no one really played like coolboarders 1, why not bring cool boarders 3 and 4 they were better. what about twisted metal, all of them. why wont you guys use the resources you already have instead of trying so hard to create what doesnt exist yet?, and no more games that are before 1990 please. I mean so much power been wasted to emulate Championship sprint, give me a break!
