Rumor: Resident Evil 5 becoming a PS3 exclusive? Doubt it ...
This is a rumor we thought we'd never see. Resident Evil has been a franchise to grace both Nintendo and Sony consoles since inception. Even Sega got their fix on the Saturn and the Dreamcast. PC? You bet. Handhelds, movies, you name it -- Resident Evil has touched it. Except for a Microsoft system, oddly enough. Perhaps that hesitation is what spawned the latest rumor: Resident Evil 5 is inching toward PS3 exclusivity. With Sega out of the race and Nintendo opting not to use graphics as a selling point, RE5 looks towards the PS3 just like Silent Hill 5 is -- should sales improve, exclusivity may result.A variety of Japanese media outlets have come out to confirm that the initially planned 360 version of the game has been dropped by Capcom. No evidence, no quotes, just heresay from magazines and denials by Capcom. Thus the rumor. On the flipside, Capcom and Microsoft have enjoyed monumental success with Dead Rising and Lost Planet. The multiplatform announcement for Devil May Cry 4, followed by the announcement all Capcom games from then on would be multiplatform, lay credence to debunking this rumor. We have no idea. We won't hold our breath, but if the rumor is true, it would be the biggest surprise of the year.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I think Capcom's whole "multi-platform philosophy" isn't going to stick for long. I'm sure we'll see more Xbox exclusives from them which could also lead to PS3 exclusives as well.

This could always be some pat on the back for PS3 owners for the DMC4 thing, and for declining to port DR and LP(when they're even on the same damn engine) to PS3 when so many people have been begging for them.
I still doubt it's true, but if so then I would like an explanation instead of business smoke and marketing mirrors.

The only way this is true is if Sony forked over some SERIOUS cash for the series to be exclusive to the PS3. If it does happen though, this is quite a feather in Sony's cap... sure to sell quite a few systems.

Just like you said, the way Dead Rising and Lost Planet sold. There is no way there going to pull it from the 360
TheGuy @ May 31st 2007 5:56PM
Considering we're talking about Capcom, the only way I see this is possible is if Sony offered a sh**load of money to Capcom for exclusivity or some sort of dispute or arguing between Microsoft and Capcom over the 360 version of the game resulted in Cpacom changing their mind about a 360 version (or possibly both scenarios). Anyways, seeing as this is CAPCOM!!! I won't believe it until I see it.

once sales "improve" then I guess you can make that assumption but only when they improve.
massive_98 @ May 31st 2007 7:54PM
Isn't Capcom getting fed by Microsoft?
pete @ May 31st 2007 8:15PM
@7 if by fed you mean giving them boat loads of cash then yes capcom is getting fed by ms
TK00 @ May 31st 2007 9:55PM
This is absurd. The only way this becomes a PS3 exclusive is if Sony BUYS Capcom.
massive_98 @ May 31st 2007 10:23PM
Has anyone else noticed that Japanese game studios milk games for all there worth?
Now that I think about it American studios do the same thing.
Does anyone know of any Killzone 2 or Afrika news?
(I keep spelling Africa wrong when I am not supposed to)

Every formerly Sony inclined developer that makes a shift towards more multiplatform games gets stick from Sony/PS3 fanbois.
I look at it this way, without the Xbox360 installed base neither DR nor LP would have had a chance in hell getting approval from the Capcom board and so never would have gone ahead.
Capcom are in the games business to make money and very few big budget PS3 exclusive games will be possible on the PS3 for now and some time due to the small installed userbase.
There's simply no incentive short of a huge payout from Sony for PS3 exclusivity whereas the Xbox360 is cheaper to develop for and utilise which all developers appreciate and can make use of.

Well if the previous games wernt on Microsft systems why should they get this one. Nintendo doesnt have the graphics or space. If Capcom did this they would sell regardless. Sony would sell lots and lots of PS3 and capcom fans will be happy to see the capcom love. Don't go to 360 capcom can't you guys see your loyal fans are with Sony and the graphics and memory with blu-ray could help you guys boost this game. I hope its exclusive.
Lp47 @ Jun 1st 2007 2:07AM
By the time this game gets realeased the PS3 install base will be huge take a look a this fall's game releases.
bearattack79 @ Jun 1st 2007 7:47AM
If this is true. I will buy a PS3.
You see folks, ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

Just a little FYI for you all:
To date Sony has sold about 1.5 million PS3s in the US. In the same timeframe, without any next-gen competition the year before, Microsoft had sold 1.7 million XBox360s in the US.
Sony has sold almost a million units in Japan while Microsoft has sold dick in Japan.
I don't have the European numbers to compare, but they're not that far off from each other.
Sony isn't as far behind as many of you would like to believe or have others believe.

Capcom is full of sh!t. Their reason for taking DMC4 to 360 is to, basically, make more money. Thus, why haven't they opt. to bring Dead Rising to the PS3? They'd make more money and its not as if M$ has a choice to the Devs. choice. I think Capcom is getting paid off to do this or that. If RE5 is a PS3 exclusive, i would be sooooo happy.
irishgamer666 @ Jun 1st 2007 2:54PM
Capcom are real basta#ds. if it wasnt for sony they would be as big as they are now!!! i knw that they had some big games before RE games but re made them what they are and because of the ps1 and RE on the ps1.
Edude @ Jun 1st 2007 4:04PM
You fanboys kill me. Why would Capcom NOT want to make the most $ so that a few rabid fanboys could have their exclusive games? All of a sudden Capcom becomes crapcom and is full of $hit because it wants to expand its market. Grow up.
Lol. @ Jun 15th 2007 10:16PM
Sony doesn't need Res:5 exclusivity...
Killzone, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, MGS4, FF13, Uncharted, Home, Folklore, EightDays, The Getaway, MotorStorm, Resistance, White Knight Story, 2Days2Vegas, Grand Turismo, Ratchet & Clank, Lair, Sigma, Socom, Tekken6, LittleBigPlanet....hmm.
Oh yeah, Res:5 and Silent Hill 5, +9 other exclusives to be announced E3 2007.
Big Guns, to say the least. ;)
