Udon Comics redraws Street Fighter II for the HD era
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (please Capcom, can you make this title longer?) is shaping up to be the single best retro revival ... ever. Their upcoming downloadable title puts Sony Online Entertainment's 1080p envisionings of Midway classics look downright lazy, to say the least. Capcom is showing PS3 gamers what real high definition is all about: instead of simply reusing and resampling the same assets from the original title, SSFIITHDR will feature brand-new high-resolution sprites hand-drawn by the amazing folks at Udon Comics.
The new HD sprites, as found on Capcom's forums, make the originals look as antiquated as they truly are. These sprites dwarf their nearest competitor, Guilty Gear, as shown in this "confidential" Capcom presentation slide. We thoroughly applaud Capcom's endeavor in avoiding a lazy re-release of this title -- now if only all retro games on the PlayStation Store would feature the same kind of effort.

Is this coming to the 360 as well?
Midway is such a joke. 1080p means nothing without a goodlooking game. Pirates of the Caribean was 1080p and it looked like a piece of shit.

Midway is probably wondering why no one is d/ling their games, maybe they should actually do a little work to them.
If it's gonna look like this I'll definitely d/l SSFIITHDR no way I'm typing that out ;)

It's also coming to 360. But does that really matter? =D

I did a little research and it is coming to 360 as well. Too bad. This would have been a job game to gloat about.
Cant wait for Drake.

I'll buy it when it comes out. I always loved the SF series, and if they're going to rework it and make it prettier, it's worth a purchase.
Midway was hella lazy on their releases. All they had to do was vectorize everything on screen and let the PS3 scale it. I guess they're just trying to make a quick buck, quality be damned.

>2. No, I dont think its coming to 360.
I believe it is, or else why would this article also appear under xbox360 fanboy site? hmmm

There just a little bit behind on there web poaching. Maybe I'll have to spend a little bit of money on this game...or NOT!

Any word on online capabilities? Regardless...this is my favorite fighter of all time. I only pray Capcom keeps those controls the same...they were perfection.

All of the retro 're-makes' should be like that though really, if they released the games with both original and full HD graphics and allowed the gamer to select whichever they wanted, whether they wanted that old fasion look they had as a kid or whether they want the same game just brought into the 21st century like Capcom is doing for SFII. Most people loved the games for something far beyond the sprites, but leaving 10+ year old graphics as they were is really poor. I can imagine there werent that many sprites in those Midway games, how much work would it have been to get in a graphic artist to re-do things a little??
Hopefully Capcom will have great success with this title and make it very clear to Midway and others that classics ARE welcome, but make a damn effort at least, leave gameplay alone and improve the visuals somewhat.

I had to do some research on this title... We get online fighting with it as well as the new drawings. But this game won't be out till the fall of this year?!?! I'm pretty damn upset with all these developers bring out all the good shit at the end of the year. Spread those games throughout the year. X-mas isn't the only time people get pay checks. Anyways, here is some more info below w/linkage.
The Capcom arcade classic receives a whole new look as Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix comes to both the, PLAYSTATION® Network and Xbox LIVE this fall. Capcom will maintain the integrity of the popular game by utilizing the original game code while upgrading the graphics with new artwork and high resolution 1080p images. Again, all of the art, from character animation to stage backgrounds, will be completely redrawn by Udon Entertainment, the company responsible for the official US Street Fighter series of comics. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will include both online and offline competition for one to two players.
