Rumor: Shocking revelations -- Bioshock coming to PS3 eventually [update 1]

It's a half-truth. The magazine claims the title isn't an exclusive, but a timed exclusive. If those who really want to play the game can wait the extra year, they'll get their Bioshock on the PS3. 2K Games will bring the title to all other consoles after a while on the 360. Are we excited? Sure. We aren't quite sure how long the exclusive will last on the 360, but estimating from other titles, it can be anywhere from a few months to an entire year. We'll keep you posted on the validity of these reports as they turn up.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
[Update: 2K Games has decided this rumor just ain't true, folks. For now. We've still got hope for an eventual port, however.]

wake me when it's confirmed please. I think we've all heard way too much flip-flop to care at this point.
I mean, it makes John Kerry looks like a loyal guy. :)
The1 @ Jun 1st 2007 5:51PM
I will play it on my X360 and rent the game at Blockbuster for the PS3 when it comes out.
Bangbang... @ Jun 1st 2007 5:58PM
I agree with #1. This is no different from the many MGS4 on xbox 360 rumors that keep popping up. Like doctors tell patients with diarrhea, let me know when you get something solid.
Vincent060 @ Jun 1st 2007 6:40PM
I for one don't care for this game. It's just another FPS with not much innovation. What's so fun about shooting little girl looking things?
massive_98 @ Jun 1st 2007 6:50PM
This one should stay as an exclusive. 2K is has done alot of business with Microsoft in the past.(and currently)
(Microsoft bought the exclusive rights to Halo 1 when it was also in devolopment for the PS2...good move if you ask me...no Halo no Xbox)
This will be a 360 exclusive while MGS4 will be a PS3 exclusive.
BlackBeltJones @ Jun 1st 2007 6:50PM
EGM's Crispin Boyer does the Bioshock coverstory on for this months EGM and he says
"Due on Xbox 360 August 21- and, we expect, the PS3 eventually.
Ed @ Jun 1st 2007 7:04PM
you shoot them underwater, that's innovative!
Vincent060 @ Jun 1st 2007 7:06PM
@10 Ed
You can? Aww sweet, I take back what I said.
Darko @ Jun 1st 2007 7:06PM
Sadly if it came to the ps3 it would probably be as awful as the splinter cell DA port.... that was just fugly. If it is a timed exclusive dont plan on it coming out until late 2008.
Darko @ Jun 1st 2007 7:12PM
Oh and as far as innovation goes, From what ive read and seen battles take place across multiple rooms and the AI seems to be rather sharp. It seems to be fairly open ended compared to other FPS titles. That and yes you can shoot people under water.... you can electrocute them as well
MegaWatts @ Jun 1st 2007 7:20PM
massive_98 - Quit your fibbin.
Halo was never considered for the playstation. It was being developed for the Mac. Then it was going to be ported to Windows.
MS bought Bungie. Killed development on Mac and Windows and they concentrated on a Xbox version instead. Later they made a Mac and Windows version that didnt do so well.
Halo was based off the Marathon series which was mostly a Mac exclusive game.
kingofwale @ Jun 1st 2007 7:38PM
>Sadly if it came to the ps3 it would probably be as awful as the splinter cell DA port
Or... it could probably be as good as Oblivion port?

Who thought this was an exclusive? IGN has been saying it would be coming out for PS3 for months. This is not news.

Wii fans are capably happy with stickmans and 2D graphics. Introducing new things like realistic water might frighten, or even anger them. I don't think we need to rush it.
:)
Michael @ Jun 1st 2007 8:11PM
Sorry to disappoint fans, but it's a Xbox360/PC exclusive still.
http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=789
I too wish it was coming to PS3, :(
Anton @ Jun 1st 2007 8:14PM
It's not 'just another fps'.
This game is from the people who created System Shock - it's more of an FPRPG. Think System Shock, or Deus Ex. A genre that clearly needs some attention.
Extinction @ Jun 1st 2007 9:08PM
"Well, considering they will probably have to downgrade the graphics to go on the PS3"
Vice versa
Killer @ Jun 1st 2007 9:12PM
LOL @ kingofwale
@JonnyBoy2U
It wouldn't matter if it was multiplatform or not. The wii couldn't handle the game. 20% better gamecube graphics couldn't support it.
If I could I would buy all 3 consoles. Sadly I don't have that kinda of cash to buy all three and spend money on all the great games on all three of them. Plus, I don't know how I could spread the love to all three equally. One might be less attention and might die, or get too much and die (like my 360) Damn you heat that warps the motherboard over time, because I played it too long. Oh, well. Free new console. No big.
Vincent060 @ Jun 1st 2007 9:21PM
@25 Killer
Since you mention it, I've always wanted to ask someone this. When a 360 gets the Red Ring of Death, the warrenty covers it right? What happens when the warrenty expires? Not trying to say start anything, just curious is all.
Breeze @ Jun 1st 2007 9:21PM
This will be available for the PS3. They're not stupid to leave money on the table. Thankfully, the extra time will give them the ability to improve the graphics and optimize it for the PS3. Think of the 360 has a test bed.
Breeze @ Jun 1st 2007 9:21PM

Yes, because a forum administrator knows exactly what's going on. The lemming is just towing the company line. It's not as if they're in the loop about anything.
kingnick @ Jun 1st 2007 9:56PM
@26.
Pretty sure that RRoD is covered under warranty but good luck if you're out of warranty.
@28.
And a person with no connections to 2kgames is a better source?
I'll place this in the same category as all the other PCXbox360 exclusive games without a confirmed PS3 release.
Hope Bioshock will be good on PC and Xbox360, I have both so I can choose the better version.
Killer @ Jun 1st 2007 10:09PM
@ vincent060
I'll answer that sure. Luckly (ironic to say this) I had a 2005 console which from what I understand gets repaired free even when out of warranty. 2006 consoles you could probally bitch enough to customer service and maybe get it free. (I know I would. I wouldn't want to pay 170 dollars for repairs.) In fact when I called the first time, the guy told me that my consoles warrenty expried a month ago. So I was like "oh shit." So I prepared to argue with CS, whe the second time I called 24 hours later, the guy tells me I still have a warrenty. So I don't know what the hell was going on there. Just happy to get it fixed free, since it is the fault on microsoft's part.
Interesting point that surprised even me:
When I called customer service it wasn't from a foriegn country. It was actually the Washingon CS branch. Which was very welcome to say the least.
Also another random point:
Did anyone here know that for repairs, the 360s and the ps3s are sent to the EXACT same town? It's true. I thought that was the weirdest thing. Both are sent to McAllen, Texas. Which makes me wonder, what is it about that town that both microsoft and sony use it as their repair centers in the U.S.?
Bored @ Jun 1st 2007 10:56PM
This is NOT coming out for the PS3.
Chances are, never!
Get it over it already!
You sound like XBots obsessed about getting a port of MGS4.
Sheesh...
BlackBeltJones @ Jun 2nd 2007 12:11AM
@31
Recently had my 2005 manufactured 360 go out and the rumors of getting it fixed for free out of warranty are incorrect, of course I didn't bitch to the guy since I was caught off guard that he wasn't an Indian. Repairs are a flat fee of $140 and you get your original console back in about a week (shorter if you live closer to Texas). After you get your 360 back they give you another year warranty on it.

Do you get all of your gaming news from forum administrators? I guess when they're not coding the game or working on the assets they're deleting and locking threads on their message boards.

"Well, considering they will probably have to downgrade the graphics to go on the PS3, I would rather get the 360 version."
Chances are your 360 won't be working by the time this drops.
rfom @ Jun 2nd 2007 2:05AM
Firstly, this is not an 360 "exclusive" - you can play it on PC, with free multiplayer (if it has MP) - just like Half-Life 2 - remember that, that was "exclusive" to XBOX.
Secondly WHY should it remain on 360 only? As we have seen the only games that have remained exclusive are first party or with developers closely tied to MS or Sony (as with Mass Effect or MS whore Capcom) - is there any reason 2k will let go potentially millions of customers?

Ummmm, wtf? Could you get anymore random? Wait, I can answer that for you. Yes, yes you can. excrements? Did you seriously just do that for your own humor or was that an attempt at trying to be funny? If it was, you're really the only one laughing. Nothing of BlackBeltJones comment wasn't even directed to you, so I don't know why you felt like you had the right to make an extremely dumb joke about what they do when they ship back the 360. Get a life.
@rfom
Hmmm...good point about it being on computer, but you forget the game is still in microsoft's hands. It's being released on 360 and Windows Live (microsoft). Microsoft has a full control exclusive. Like it or not (I personally don't) microsoft is trying to take full on control on gaming on pc too. You qoute about million of customers they would be losing. Point: around 10 million 360s, ang a hell of alot of pc owners. About 4 million ps3s. The 360 and pc market, (at the time being) is extremely large compared to the ps3s base. 2k might have plans to make it for the ps3 if the user base goes up to about 6 million or so, because they it can be seen as the right amount of base to sell the game.
Breeze @ Jun 2nd 2007 12:00PM

BlackBeltJones (more like a White Belt) is an xbox fanboy that spends his time on this PS3 site trying to convince his console is the best. He is a vile little creature that has nothing better to do with his time then to criticize the PS3 and every game released for it. I hate these disgusting POS and their useless and futile comments. If you're an xbox fanbot, then please stick to your respective site. Now, are you a xbox fanbot? If so, then the same applies to you. And if you are, get a life and go where you're wanted, fool.
Devr @ Jun 2nd 2007 12:30PM
Shit. Yes. I'm currently trying to decide between a PS3 and a 360 and this would probably make PS3 the winner. :P Hope it's not a rumor... But 3rd party exclusives are pretty much dead so I remain hopeful.
Lp47 @ Jun 2nd 2007 3:00PM
I really want this game for PS3 i hope it comes over!
John @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:04PM
This game looks amazing on the 360. I hope to GOD that they port it appropriately to the ps3. I don't care if there's nothing extra, just make it as good as the 360 version, and take all the time you need, to do that.
John @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:28PM
Not sure the Vincent060 person has any clue what they're talking about. As another commentor pointed out, this game hits somewhere between rpg and fps, and is original. But then... you would have to be literate to know that.
As for Mr. "Luke" AKA "CONFIRMED AS FAKE"-- notice that he cites a single bulletin board response from some administrator.
It's no wonder humans are so stupid. I'm going to go ahead and assume that these guys don't have a diploma.
And notice that "bkvalheim" says "already proven fake people." Not only can this person not compose a complete sentence or use commas correctly, they offer no reason why it is "already proven fake." I'm gonna put old "bkvalheim" in the intelligence category of legumes.
(bkvalheim feverishly runs through a dictionary to find the definition of 'legume')--
It's a bean, dude. You're as smart as a bean.
It's okay. We'll feed and water you, and make sure you're warm, don't worry. We respect ALL life, even dumbasses like you.
@Bored, there is some possibility you could be right. But like the joke that is bkvalheim, you offer no reasons. That's because you're a moron.
Also-- bkvalheim doesn't have a ps3, and it hasn't been replaced twice. He's a plant.
This is sorta fun, but I feel like a bully, picking on these dumb people. I'm just mean. Using my intelligence to attack stupid people.
Vincent060 @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:48PM
@44 John
What intelligence do you have? What RPG elements does this game have? A little ability upgrades? San Andreas has more RPG elements and it isn't considered an RPG. It is just another FPS with little else going on. You just shoot and press a button to activate something. Nothing innovative. You just want an excuse to make this not seem like all the other shooter games. But then, you would need to have at least an average IQ to figure that out.
massive_98 @ Jun 3rd 2007 11:36AM
Has anyone else noticed that the fanboy wars have gotten less violent?
matjet @ Jun 3rd 2007 12:23PM
I wonder where do all the trolls hide when the sun comes out? I look through the threads and see usual topics with usual happy single digit reply numbers. Then there are threads like this where the trolls all come out of hiding and you get 50 odd comments.
Number 45 at time of writing, "Vincent060".
think of it along the lines of something like resident evil, or silent hill. You do shooting, but unlike the normal fps the objective is not to have fun maniacally killing the 'enemy'. It is to play/survive through the story driven role of the character, hence you are role-playing. This thinking could be applied to a lot of shooter games that include single player, but for 95% of them, it is the actual shooting that is the focus and not the role-playing.
"bkvalheim". all posts here.
"john" is correct about you.
"breeze" is commendable. One of the few to not sprout total rubbish.
Vincent060 @ Jun 3rd 2007 1:06PM
@48 matjet
So is that all it takes for a game to be labeled as an RPG these days? So are you saying that the RPG element in this game is "to play/survive through the story driven role of the character"? But don't you play/survive by shooting everything that moves? Oh well, it seems nothing would stop you from calling this game a "FPS/RPG", though I think The Elder Scroll series is more like an FPS(shooting arrows and spells)/RPG(talking to people, character development(both physically and mentally), story development) then Bioshock.
This is an impressive game visually, but the action just looks alittle slow(it takes him so damn long to shoot himself up with whatever it is that gives him different powers.) He just runs around avoiding be hit by those things. It's basically run and shoot(either with guns or with lightning or fire.)

Well thats what happens if you put you eh em in the disk tray.
I couldn't be bothered if this went multiplatform or not, how is this any different from the other 10000000 generic fps titles only available on Xbox ¬_¬ Oh wait...its underwater....vast difference, how could I have not noticed....
gorephuzz @ Aug 17th 2007 5:04PM
whats funny, all the people that are saying "Who cares, its just another FPS"
A. havent played the game and know nothing about it.
B. if its confirmed for PS3 they'll be praising it.
I assure you Bioshock is not "Just another shooter"
which is why every review thats coming in for it is 100 percent, 5/5, 10/10
