European PSN releases for June 8th
Those of you who enjoy your beat-em-ups will no doubt be pleased with the recent European PSN update. As well as a couple of trailers for upcoming PS3 games, Sony gave us Mortal Kombat 2. The full release list is as follows.- Mortal Kombat 2 (£1.99)
- Colin McRae: DiRT trailer (free)
- Ninja Gaiden Sigma trailer (free)
Isn't it is nice to finally get some playable content with a name that doesn't start with "Go!"? MK2 is a worthwhile purchase, especially considering the low price. We reviewed it in May (back when the Americans got it), giving it a score of nothing-to-write-home-about out of ten. Things can only get better for the PSN though, with upcoming releases of Calling All Cars and Super Stardust HD. Will removing the spines of our friends over the internet keep us occupied until then? We hope so.

MK2 is a terrible game for PSN. All my PSN buddies who have it agree. Waste of money. I don't like these 8-32 bit games
ClarkyCat @ Jun 9th 2007 10:06PM
What exactly were you expecting? Revamped gameplay and next gen graphics? I don't see how it's a waste of money, you know what you were getting. A 14 year old fighting game. And yet hilariously, it can't even get to the level it was 14 years ago. I was hoping this would be a port of the Genesis/MegaDrive version, but no it's just straight from the arcade. The controls are horrible and un-customisable, the layout is bland and the sound effects irritating. The multiplayer mode is an absolute joke; no such thing as a lobby, just start up a room and hope someone finds it and joins. Which probably won't happen, as no one seems to be playing it.

MK2 was a freakin' waste of $5. Calling all cars was crap too... im going to take an indefinite break from all psn games, until they put demos up.
Popfrogs @ Jun 9th 2007 11:53PM
CAC is a decent little game. It's more fun to play online or invite friends over to play of course. I suck at it but still enjoy it.
And about MKII...yes Midway could have spent a few bucks and updated it. Similar to what Capcom is doing with Street Fighter II Turbo. It's getting all new HD artwork and animation. I can't wait. :)

Stop the madnesss............. with these comments.. "MK2 is a worthwhile purchase, especially considering the low price." I did not spend $600 dollars on a console to play OLD GAMES. I want games now that utilize the Cell and Blu-Ray(this is what Ken bragged about). Otherwise all this crap is useless and the weekly sells are a representation of such.

Have to just be patient. It's the playstation store, if you want a new ps3 game go buy one, lots of good releases are coming out soon, and like playstation's history it will be the #1 console yet again it just takes time for the games to come out. In the meantime PSN may be a little bland so what be patient, go play motorstorm online or something.

You forget one thing : there is as well a news free add-on for "Genji: Days of the blade", named "Over the rainbow" (new clothes inspired by the wizard of oz)
sam-evans @ Jun 10th 2007 4:15AM
It would be nice to see the (E3) demos of games like Lair, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank Future and Uncharted on PSN
Is there a known release date of Calling All Cars on the Euro Store?
Adam @ Jun 10th 2007 5:27AM
Why can't they release the Gamer's days demos, or the E3 demos in future, then we can send them the feedback and claim that we are helping. Also, I've heard we're getting CaC on 22nd June, with something else the week after, but of course there is also Rainbow Six Vegas and Ninja Giaden Sigma coming out on the 29th.
Anyway, is there any news on a European open public beta anytime soon?
darren_mccoy @ Jun 10th 2007 8:58AM
My Mortal Kombat keeps on briefly freezing every 15 seconds or so. Is this why they have removed the demo or is no one else experiencing this?
I don't know if its because i'm running it at 1080p or not. Anyone else playing it in 1080p?
Bored @ Jun 10th 2007 11:46AM
What the hell is wrong with you people?
It only costs two quid! 3 euro! Not a penny more!
It's the best version of the best Mortal Kombat there was back in the day, the arcade version - superior to the SNES version as well. As a side effect, also much tougher. Speaking of SNES, the controls are mapped pretty much the same way they were for the SNES pad. I didn't have much of a problem adjusting.
Yes, the layout is bland and they just hacked the arcade emulation to link the arcade player 1 and player 2 controls to the peer-to-peer connection. But for this kind of simple game, did you really need anything more sophisticated? And I never had a problem finding people to play with, both through "public" and "private".
It's an old game with a bare-bones online functionality, yes. But for two quid, it's certainly no rip-off. And you don't have to pay 40 pounds per year for the priviledge of playing online. There's lots of useless shit in XBLA that costs twice as much. Microsoft just hides the price behind "points".
And people still complain... *sigh*
massive_98 @ Jun 10th 2007 3:26PM
So you have to pay for XBLA. I though it came with the $60 a year Xbox live. I guess not?
Zta @ Jun 10th 2007 4:04PM
OOOOH! They give us the Ninja Gaiden Trailer! How about the Demo that has been available in HK and US for weeks?!
The EU PSN Store is an insult!
xion @ Jun 10th 2007 4:34PM
"So you have to pay for XBLA. I though it came with the $60 a year Xbox live. I guess not?"
its 50$, and you dont need a gold membership to download XBLA games.. people seem to forget that the ONLY thing you need the Gold membership is to play online. Everything else is available in the FREE Silver account.
massive_98 @ Jun 10th 2007 11:42PM
But are the XBLA games free?
And its $60 (I'm Canadian)

"But are the XBLA games free?"
ofcourse not (excluding perhaps you receive one for free for w/e reason)good thing is every one of them comes with a free trial you can download..so you play it first and then decide if you want to purchase the full game.
xion @ Jun 11th 2007 12:09AM
"But are the XBLA games free?"
nice question XP
ofcourse the answer is no. good thing is you can download a free trial for any of them. so you know what you get before you decide to buy or not.
(if my previous comment shows up, please excuse, it wasnt showing up when i posted it_

@10:
I've been playing MK2 in 1080p for months now, and it plays fine, and has never froze. Try downloading it again, maybe you got a bad transfer.
stirlo @ Jun 12th 2007 8:19AM
yeah, #10, I've found the issue is network lag, if the person you are playing is close to you, all is good... if you're trying to play someone halfway across the globe, the game slows down significantly.
