More critics, more predictions of PS3 dominance by 2010
For a while, we thought video game market analysts went into hibernation. We didn't hear their slobbering predictions for a while and the world was at peace. However, all good things come to a premature, abrupt, and violent end. Popular Science has issued plenty of predictions, one of which is aimed squarely at the PlayStation 3. While the prediction is a positive one for the Sony crowd, it's still just a prediction.Long term plans are key with these predictions. Nintendo is sweeping the world with their Wii, but what will happen a few years from now? The novelty will wear off and the gaming quality will grow more obvious as people purchase HDTV's and want something with more pizazz, Popular Science implies. Perhaps they don't imply it, but that is the thought behind many analysts. With that in mind, Popular Science predicts the PS3 will begin to outsell the competition by the end of 2009. Very conservative, but not entirely unbelievable. Now we ask all of you to get out your crystal balls and tell us what you think will happen with the consoles by the end of this year. We'll make a basic one: PS3 sales will pick up drastically during the last three months of the year as PS2 sales taper off.

I knew that this was just a matter of time. People who are bitching the ps3 should just wait and give the ps3 some time to make it's way into the gaming industry.

I agree. All it is going to take is a few titles to drop and PS3's will sell well again.

Just to add something. Do not forget that Final Fantasy X (of wich i'm a huge fan) made the ps2 selling explode back in 2001. So, when Final Fantasy XIII will make it's way on to the shelves, PS3 will surely get a price cut or a bundle ( in japan if there is one). MGS4 also seems a good game for a bundle (call it the "FOXHOUND bundle pack").

A few years from now? I don't think it'll take that long. The Wii gets old really fast, and its awfully hard to go back to those low resolutions. With the cost of HDTVs plummeting and cable services offering more and more high-def channels, HD is going to be the standard pretty soon. And the Wii is going to look like crud.

GRT,
There's no doubt that the Wii is graphically inferior to the PS3 and the 360, HOWEVER, graphics are not what makes it a success. People that don't usually game are buying Wii's because of the simple, and innovative controls. These aren't necessarily the people who play a game for five or six hours at a time, they're playing for an hour at a time tops. The PS3, at it's current price point, only appeals to the most hardcore of gamers. By 2010, it will most likely be afforbable and will be in more homes. However, a lot could happen between now and 2010. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo both have tricks upheir sleeves that we don't know about. The real question here is whether Sony's "tricks" will be enough to beat the prices and features of the other two consoles. Is it possible? Absolutely. Does this prediction by popular science mean a Sony victory is a sure thing? No. They'll have to work for it. They've earned a lot of ill will over the past year or so, and they need to repair their image before they can declare victory.

The PS3 will start selling really fast once a few big titles hit, then MGS4 and Killzone will come and sell even more throughout the winter into late fall then well see how it goes from there. 360 will sell many systems because of Halo 3 but then will die off considering its one game up against many Big AAA PS3 games. The wii will sell more once smash bros and mario galaxy hits then they will slowly come down.

What they imply is that they don't know the video game business and just say the PS3 will win because the PS2 did good.

2010? HAHAHAHAH
By then there will be the new "next gen" consoles.
mat parker @ Jun 12th 2007 2:26AM
the ironic thing is 2011 is the expected release year for xbox 3

I’ve asked this before and will ask it again (because the first answers back during launch were from very emotional Wii fanboys). Why isn’t the Wiimote simply considered a peripheral that can easily be added by a 3rd party dev (with a cache of compatible games) to the PS3 or 360? Why? Is there some magic that can’t be duplicated?
John @ Jun 12th 2007 3:24PM
ALL the systems are going to see significantly increased sales in the last 3 months, that's a no-brainer. The ps3 will see a bigger surge relative to it's current status, as the library of good games will be quite large, then. The thing that could help the xbox360 would be if they lowered it's price. If they did, Sony would be sweating, because some Sony peeps might opt for the box in addition to their currently-owned ps3s. Or, they could spend that money on a bunch of great ps3 games and movies.
At this point, I am enjoying all the old ps2 games, and don't feel motivated to get a Wii. Since the ps3 upscales ps2 games, they look better than the Wii, and we know how old the ps2 is.

The end of this year is going to change. Sure there will be halo
3 for
360 but, sony's lineup is far more superior and will overtake 360
games. The ps3 will jump in sales and will be back on track.
following the strong fall and winter more games will hit in early 08.
Knocking the 360 back. The ps3 sales will pass 360 next march and the
wii might do well if they get some big games out. Sony will also
announce some huge suprises that will hype the ps3 even more. thats
my prediction.
