Survey reveals more PS3 connectivity options
PlayStation Underground members recently received a survey, grilling them on potential PSP-PS3 connectivity features. While surveys aren't necessarily indicators of services to be offered, they do show what the company is experimenting with. Some potential ideas thrown around in the survey include:

- Use the device to complete side missions for console games (unlockables, etc.).
- Transfer media (music/pictures/video) wirelessly from the console to the device (broadcast television, new levels for games).
- Use the device WHILE PLAYING the console game as an additional weapon/utility to help the gameplay (2nd player option, radar for incoming enemies, etc.).
- Record console gameplay video for ...

Last should be:
Record console gameplay video for display on the device (showing off your high scores or "cool moves" to friends).
Hmm... Use the PS3 as a DVR (Digital Video Recorder)? This can be an option, but I don't see much fun from this one. May be useful for HotShot Golf and Pro Evolution Soccer players

[The following statements concern the way you would like a portable device to interact with a console.]
* Use the device to complete side missions for console games (unlockables, etc.).
Think of Final Fantasy VIII, which requires you to unlock the hidden guardians with the Pocket Station;
Dokodemo Isshyo series, which also needs you to keep playing with the Pocket Station.
Maybe Sony want to release PS2/PS3 games with a small PSP game which can be download to the memory stick, and let you play on the PSP while moving (Sony is planning on games started from memory stick now, so it is possible). When achieved some kind of target, you can connect the PSP with the console to let them read the record and unlock according items in the console game.
[Do you really want to be tied to a game forever like this? Me not.]
* Transfer media (music/picture/video) wirelessly from the console to the device (broadcast television, new levels from games).
This should be a mix of the Location Free function and the remote access function. Prolly this is for the PS3. Use your PSP to download files from the PS3 HDD. Should be a convenient function to have.
* Use the device WHILE PLAYING the console game as an additional weapon/utility to help the gameplay (2nd player option, radar for incoming enemies, etc.).
Ahh, this is a clone of the GBA-GameCube connectivity, isn't it? Pretty good to have, but the button on the PSP is less than the DualShock 2 controller. Need to be careful when mapping the buttons. Also, how would the PSP be connected to the console? USB cable is a cut for mobility (maybe for PS2), and wireless is a battery killer (for PS3). And we may be able to see games like "Legend of Zelda: 4 Swords", which was originally released on the GameCube.
* Record console gameplay video for display on the device (showing off your high scores or "cool moves" to friends).

"Ahh, this is a clone of the GBA-GameCube connectivity, isn't it?"
No, the GBA-GameCude connectivity was a clone of the Dreamcast's VMU. Also, the Wiimote was stolen from Sega and the internet browser was, too. Sega did these things before Nintendo did, which means that Nintendo is a bunch of thieves!
In case it wasn't obvious enough, I was being sarcastic. Who cares who did what first? I only care about who does it better, and PSP to PS3 connectivity, if implemented, will most likely kick ass.

The third one is pretty promissing , what can I say , I would really want that option :)

The GBA to Gamecube connectivity was ahead of its time and didn't really have any killer apps (LoZ Four Swords Adventures came out too late). I think Nintendo could have taken it further, and I think Sony actually will.
Taking my franchise from MLB 08 on the PS3 on the road with me would be pretty sweet, and it could also make it possible to play poker or other card games with a friend on the same couch.

If the PS3 controller can be added to the locationfree data on a PSP as a "remote", I wonder if we will soon be able to play games on the road, by literally remote controlling the PS3 via a PSP.
