Jack Tretton teases E3 surprises, promises "more than 100 titles" by year end
Sony has been going full throttle on it's new PlayStation.Blog with some of the biggest names at the company doing regular posts. This time, the president and CEO of SCEA, Jack Tretton weighs in with an interesting post about the past successes of the PlayStation brand and some of his thoughts of the future. It's interesting stuff and definitely worth reading. He also gives game-starved PS3 owners some good news by implying that the drought is almost done: "We have more than 15 games coming from our own internal studios alone this year for PS3. Our third party partners will weigh in with a host of great games giving us more than 100 titles by year end on that system alone."
Later on in the piece are hints that we're in for some cool surprises at E3 too, stating that not only will we see new stuff on the known titles like Ratchet and Clank or Heavenly Sword, but also they will announce "a few surprises we have up our sleeves that no one has seen." Intriguing and exciting stuff and we'll find out in less than a month! Anybody want to start the random unsubstantiated guessing on what they're gonna show? I say ... Killzone Bowling and Barbie's Xtreme SOCOM Adventures.

I think many of the speculators are starting to come around and realize the tide is changing in the console wars. Can you feel it?
Matt B @ Jun 14th 2007 4:21PM
I'd love to see Killzone released the same day as Halo 3.
I'd love to walk up to the counter at EB that day and have the clerk assume I want my H3 pre-order only to find out that I wanted KZ.
Stef Geiger @ Jun 14th 2007 4:28PM
@2: As far as I know, there IS no public E3 anymore.
@3: No, I can't feel it. It might have something to do with Sony admitting that PS3 sales have plummeted. The tide doesn't have a chance of changing for probably at least another month, more likely around September when there's actually some decent reasons to own the console.

Sadly Wii is the one right now - and Wii doesn't have the games to justify it either - just hypes, the control scheme and price. When people finally figures it out it would be too late. 360, although trying to diversify, still has a ton of FPS, racing and sports and not much on other genres. Enchanted arms sucked, Blue dragon ok. If I were to buy a console right now I really wouldn't buy any of the 3 right now since none of them has a "must play" for me. PS3 has the most games coming up that I want to play compared to the other 2 systems. Most of the 360 RPGs will probably get ported to the PS3 so that basically leaves me never buying a 360. And if Wii lowers down to 150 and have a few games with substance and not mario/zelda/metroid then i might get it.
Stef Geiger @ Jun 14th 2007 4:55PM
@6: Jeeze.. I didn't know I was breaking balls. The guy asked if Jack was referring to the private or public E3 and as I said, there IS no public (as in "people paying to get in and check it out") E3 anymore. There's only one version of E3, and it's now very small and private. That's all I was saying.
pete @ Jun 14th 2007 5:02PM
I keep reading that there is a public e3, like a mini e3, i dont think its put up by the same organizers, but go figure maybe i heard wrong

There are a number of great games coming the way of PS3, and coming soon? eh... a bit scarce isn't it? I'm really looking forward to Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Lair... *shrug* there are a couple others I have interest it (Darkness), but nothing that's a sure buy except for.... WARHAWK. If you are a part of the beta, you would know why. This game is the best online game I've ever played, and co-op is great. Do yourself a favor - find someone who has the game, and pickup controller #2, you will be a happy, happy camper.

@16:
You lost me after telling us all how great the Wii is. Plus the Red Ring of Death is not a system I would purchase. I spend my money on quality goods because I work hard for it.
massive_98 @ Jun 14th 2007 5:39PM
Afrika and 8days info would be nice.
PS3 is going in a good direction. I'm am slowly getting reconvinced why I got a Playstation 3.
Sony will probably come on top in terms of positive media at this E3. Nintendo will be a close second and the media will finally realize Microsoft only has Halo 3. (Forza 2 is fun though.)
massive_98 @ Jun 14th 2007 5:49PM
No actually they haven't fixed the ring of death sitch. Will they ever fix the airplane fans inside there console or the chunky power brick?
No.
Kenneth H. @ Jun 14th 2007 5:59PM
Yeah, obviously, Sony has made some major mistakes this cycle...but I went ahead and bought my PS3 yesterday. It was hard to give Amazon that $600 but Sony has earned credibility enough to have me believe that they will again "WOW" the gaming world this console cycle. From what I'm already seeing and from what I hear their long term strategy as being...I'm placing my bets on Sony and the 3.
massive_98 @ Jun 14th 2007 5:59PM
So they have taken the two million or so defective consoles and replaced them with ones that work. They should have released their console once they knew it would work. I am glad Sony waited so they could release a quality console. I would like a Microsoft press release link please to verify your bullshit.
massive_98 @ Jun 14th 2007 6:01PM
To get back on topic
"We have more than 15 games coming from our own internal studios alone this year for PS3"
So maybe I could get to play Afrika in time for Christmas. (that would be a dream come true.)
tahiri @ Jun 14th 2007 6:03PM
"The Wii offers a brand new style of gameplay "
brand new? no, Ive had motion sensing for years.
change of input device =/= change of gameplay

Wait a minute? wasn't this about the ps3 and how it may improve?...so why is the 360 even mentioned? for the love of god every time there is the mere speculation that the ps3 might get better there is always some fanbot screaming "360 is better anyway, sony sucks"........why?....we all know Microsoft decided to let the xbox 1 die soon so that they can rush the 360....now wether its a rushed console is purely an opinion, I think its rushed because 20 months later and we still get red rings of death reports..
My point is that sony can afford to take their time with the ps3 because the ps2 is still alive and kicking...can the gamecube or Xbox say that?.....some people are quick to say "lol, the ps2 outsold the ps3, sony sucks"....while others say "well after all the next-gen stuff on the market the only last gen thing to still be selling is the ps2, maybe sony really does have a long-term plan" not to mention the ps2 outselling the 360 on many occasions
My point is that next-gen didn't even start yet..nope, not on the wii, the xbox or the ps3......until we start seeing sale numbers like we did last gen and until fanboys are finally comfortable with their consoles and don't feel the need to run and bash something they don't even own just to protect their purchase , then we can say next-gen started.
I also find it strange that the people who to own both consoles (ps3, 360) but somehow still try to spin anything the ps3 does, wether it be positive or not, into something bad....I don't get it....shouldn't you also be optimistic about the ps3 just as much as the 360?...but then again there are lost of idiots on the web...more then you think
again, this should be about a possible turn around for the ps3....why the hell would anyone try to spin that into something bad?
massive_98 @ Jun 14th 2007 7:28PM
"hen will they fix the PS3 red/orange flashing light overheating issues and bricking?"
Say what. I know nobody who has a problem with their PS3. Its quiet and reliable. PS3 has more secret games then 360. We all know about Halo and Bioshock but many Playstation games are still a mystery.
DxG @ Jun 14th 2007 7:30PM
@ everyone. wow this site is called ps3 fanboy. basically everyone except a select few are bashing the hell out of ps3.
Hey Seuss @ Jun 14th 2007 8:09PM
Summa? Robert Summa, I know you're in here you son of a bitch... I can hear you giggling behind your army of PSfanboys.

@DxG: Don't you love fear?

Wow. Its amazing to me sitting here reading these comments from people bashing the PS3. So many of them sound as if they never owned one, or at the very least, are way too impatient (or instant-gratification needy) for all of the great games that are going to be coming out. The Wii is an excellent INTRODUCTORY console, built on the premise that anyone should be able to play a quick game. The downside to it are shallow games. The 360 is proving to be a solid MIDDLE MARKET console, whose library is fairly large and has excellent quality tittles. The downside being a perceived high failure rate of the 360, and a lack of certain genres. The PS3 on the other hand is percieved as the worst out of the bunch due to price and a lack of quality tittles. The one thing NOT being said, though is the obvious: When the big titles DO release beginning in the fall, how many people are going to switch over to the PS3? I believe two years from now we will see numbers at least matching the PSOne during the same time frame.
rfom @ Jun 15th 2007 3:41AM
#29 "coming soon sections for the 360 and compare that to the PS3 and tell me who has more games coming out before the end of the year"
games in 2nd half of 2007
360: Halo3, Mass Effect, Too Human, PGR4, Forza2
PS3: Ninja Gaiden, Lair, Heavenly, White knight story, MGS4, Ratchet and Clank, Folksoul, Drake:uncharted, Haze (timed exclusive)
And #27 is spot in "next-gen didn't even start ......until we start seeing sale numbers like we did last gen "
The wii for all its hype will sell 15 million by next year...when people begin to really get the difference between 480p and 720/1080p. And thanks to MS being mule-headed enough to not cut prices, the 360 is also selling at a snail's pace. By the time this battle picks up, the PS3 manufacturing cost will be half what it was at launch and technologies like BR and Cell will start to shine.
maximus91 @ Jun 15th 2007 9:10AM
Umm what about blue ray? My 1080p tv and my onkyo 987 recieve really love what ps3 can do... I mean I really love it! Movies will never be the same.. ever.
On the game side of note.. I dont have time to play games much, but motorstorm and resistance give me enough fun. Also all my best friends, 6, only own a 360 but i showed them porn on ps3 and my 1080p tv from the internet.. they all want in on it.
Heron12345 @ Jun 15th 2007 11:55AM
