Time Crisis 4: FPS shooting for a new generation

The new Guncom takes advantage of Wii-esque technology, which allows it to be compatible with SDTVs and HDTVs of all kinds (previous Time Crisis console titles did not work with certain types of TVs). The new HD graphics are stunning: a vast improvement over the pixelated mess of the arcade original.
The single most exciting feature of the PS3 Time Crisis has to be its new FPS mode, which allows you to freely move around the world whilst using Guncom 3 to fire at enemies. By adding the precision controls of a light gun game into the FPS genre is certainly going to create a truly immersive experience. If Namco Bandai can nail down the controls on the game before its November release, we can't help but think that this game could potentially set the standard for FPS game control.

But the fact that this game's (like all arcade shooters) near non-existant replayability will make the game not worth the price (assuming 70-80 w/gun). If there's some online co-op or even team vs then i would definitely get it.

Orlando Bloom... Is that you?

Damn, fall is going to be fucking awesome. I need to save up money.
Matt B @ Jun 18th 2007 2:05PM
If this has online multi-player, I'm sold.

the viability of "wii-esque" controls as a replacement for mouselook is yet to be proven. see "red steel" and "far cry vengeance". we'll have to wait and see how the new metroid prime holds up this august.

I played the hell out of this on the PS1, so I'll definitely add this to my watch list. May not buy it when it first comes out, but it'll probably be a good addition when the price drops.
Joseph Skar @ Jun 18th 2007 2:45PM
Is this a "first person shooter" like you say? I always thought Time Crisis games were "rail shooters".
Andrew Yoon @ Jun 18th 2007 3:08PM
That's why Time Crisis 4 is amazing... it has rails shooting AND traditional FPS gameplay (with light gun controls!)
pescheLi @ Jun 19th 2007 3:04AM
what about projectors
Stef Geiger @ Jun 18th 2007 3:09PM
@3: Yeah, that was my first impression too.
Andrew Yoon @ Jun 18th 2007 3:11PM
It should work fine with projectors. Once again, it uses the same camera and tilt-based tech as the Wiimote. As long as the sensors are set up properly, I don't think it will be an issue.
Jonny McCormack @ Jun 18th 2007 3:12PM
Wait... I thought this was coming out on Xbox 360 as well?

The Goalkeeper @ Jun 18th 2007 4:08PM
i cant wait for this game to come out. Hopefully there will be other games that will support guncon 3
Tim @ Jun 18th 2007 7:53PM
That looks hot. Dam the characters and story look corny as, but that FPS mode is gonna be killer!
Joseph Skar @ Jun 18th 2007 10:18PM
Thanks andrew, this makes more sence to me now. Also thanks for your hard work @ psp fanboy.
SKI @ Jun 19th 2007 9:46AM

Finally, a PS3 exclusive that I'm actually jealous of as a 360 owner. I miss the days of having light gun games.
Oh well, I already beat it at the arcade for $5 anyways.
Extinction @ Jun 20th 2007 12:50AM
"This PS3 exclusive title will feature support for the Wii-inspired Guncom 3."
Oh for pete's sakes. It's not inspired by Wii at all. It's inspired by the LCD topgun, which Wii was inspired by
