Halo on the PS3, not the 360 (thanks to Blu-ray) [UPDATE]
There's a rumor going around that the Fox movie company has picked up the primary license rights to the Halo movie, a move which has made many people cheer since there were worries the movie would never see the light of day. If the rumor turns out to be correct though, it brings up an interesting point -- Fox is exclusive to Blu-ray and they'd be the ones publishing the title when it was released. Also, Microsoft has come out previously and explicitly said that they will not be releasing a Blu-ray add-on for the 360, leaving Xbox 360 owners high and dry if they want to watch the HD treatment of their ambrosia. So will PlayStation 3 owners have exclusive access to Halo the movie when it is released? The irony would be so delicious that Peter Moore's head would explode -- but things are a little too early to be sure about anything when it comes to the Halo movie. And anyway, regardless of which format it is released, Microsoft is going to find someway to get a HD version to 360 owners. Even if it means caving in and admitting Blu-ray dominance.
Update: Okay, so Fox turns out to be involved with the Halo videogame, not the movie. The Halo movie is back to hanging out with Duke Nukem Forever in the 'We're never coming out' club.

thats a long shot, ms wont admit the sky is blue if its not in their best intrest. and i'd figure they would go the dl alley and have it up on marketplace or good old fashion dvd!!
Hoffer @ Jun 19th 2007 6:42PM
It will be a couple years before this movie is ever ready for home release. By then HD DVD will fail and there will be a Blu-ray drive for the 360.
Either that or there will just be a downloadable version of the movie.
Matias @ Jun 19th 2007 7:00PM
Because microsoft doesn't have an HD movie online marketplace to release this movie as well.
This is a rubbish news report.
pete @ Jun 19th 2007 7:19PM
@3 november 08 the xbox 720 drops, the following month ms annouces they will stop all support of the, last gen, 360.
Magma @ Jun 19th 2007 7:30PM
@6. We already know how awesome the PS3 is, it's the 360 fanboys who can't shut the hell up about how great their system is.
The1 @ Jun 19th 2007 7:41PM
Be careful of what you wish for...... Suppose that Halo is release at the Theaters and its a critical success and people buy the movie on Blu-Ray which may or may not help PS3 sales because by this time Blu-Ray Players will be even more cheaper than the PS3. Yet, those people who saw the movie goes out to buy an X360 just to play the game or games. Is this not a Trojan horse and will hurt Sony?????
The1 @ Jun 19th 2007 7:44PM
Furthermore, play video games and stop worrying about the X360 or Wii. Sony needs to sell more PS3's ASAP. I only turn my PS3 on to play Warhawk and I am so pissed at that within itself.
Ian @ Jun 19th 2007 7:50PM
Fox still releases Blu-rays? :-P
Jimmy @ Jun 19th 2007 8:22PM
I wouldn't wanna watch that movie anyway!!!
Ingdawg @ Jun 19th 2007 8:42PM
Actually, I'm pretty sure they have merchandising rights to Halo, not exactly saying the Halo MOVIE, so I believe it would still go on the format of whatever publisher/studio picks it up. Plus it will still be on standard DVD.
Space_Butler @ Jun 19th 2007 8:57PM
Wow, Colin, could this story be any MORE disproven by the time you get around to posting it? Hell, two of your sister sites already disproved it hours ago. Way to be on the ball there and keep up the disproven rumor mongering.

And then of course there are even more websites ACCURATELY reporting on the story

Just delete the story, and cross everything out and write "OOPS!".
Azorean @ Jun 19th 2007 8:59PM
Sony and you fanboys shouldn't worry about what Blu-Ray gets or how blu-ray is doing you both should worry about how terrible the PS3 is selling and how there aren't currently any games that make the console worth purchasing!
@6 that's one hell of an oxymoron.
Azorean @ Jun 19th 2007 9:04PM
And by the way MS is making money on Blu-Ray as well! The best(main)codec used in Blu-Ray and HD-DVD is owned by MS so I don't think they really give two shits about the format war to be honest they probably just would like to see Blu-Ray fail just because Sony is betting the farm on it and with out it the PS3 would be just like the PSP and it's UMD!
thegreengrunt @ Jun 19th 2007 9:12PM
MS has already stated they would release a bluray drive for the 360 if the bluray drive one the HD format wars.
MS does not care who wins. Why should they? Sony is not in competition with MS for movie formats in any shape or form.
Sony is ONLY in competition with MS for gaming. And MS is winning. :)
cell @ Jun 19th 2007 9:21PM
lol this is a funny story I know it pisses the shit out of XBOTS, lol the irony. THat was a good laugh, well I dont see the Halo movie happeneing, since the story is crap. Its just disturbing seeing a real actor dressed in a green astronaut suit, plus only XBOTS would actually go to the movies and watch this, just like DOA.lol.
Will @ Jun 19th 2007 9:23PM
16: actually you're wrong, they commented last year that it would be possible...but then a couple months ago they said it was highly doubtful that the 360 would ever receive any bluray love
Lp47 @ Jun 19th 2007 9:59PM
ownded, simply owned.
BlackBeltJones @ Jun 19th 2007 10:11PM
Yeah but Universal picked up the Killzone movie and they only support hd-dvd.
Here's the trailer:

BlackBeltJones @ Jun 19th 2007 10:17PM
I'm guessing Microsoft will retain control of the IP and if they wanted, would only allow it to be a dvd release. Even if they did allow it on blu-ray they don't lose out on anything, they just get money. The only one who can really take a big hit from this format war is sony, they are much more invested in blu-ray (obviously) than Microsoft is invested in HD-DVD.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Jun 19th 2007 11:37PM
LOL that would be a total smack in the face for Microsoft! The flamers would get REALLY pissed if it's not released on HD-DVD.
Well, this is more evidence that Blu-Ray is the superior format and the future is looking (slightly) better for the Sony gamble.
Magma @ Jun 20th 2007 12:40AM
19 youre an idiot, Every movie studio now supports blu ray regardless of also supporting HDDVD.
Azorean @ Jun 20th 2007 12:45AM
@22 getting exclusive content for GTA on the 360 would be a real smack in the face....oh wait
Tom @ Jun 20th 2007 1:08AM
Stop talking about all this nonsense and report on the PS3, its features, and its games. Bluray is only a coincidence. You wouldn't talk about DVD movie releases on a PS2 fan site, why do you talk about Bluray movies on a PS3 site? Makes no sense. Furthermore, they shouldn't comment on HDDVD releases on the 360 fan site, either. It's just dumb.
WTangoFoxtrot @ Jun 20th 2007 1:22AM
yea u writers at PS3Fanboy need to do some freaking research for once, coming up with shit theories because ur bored of humping ur ps3 ( u guys actually do something else with it ? :o )
the deal with Fox is for merchandising only and does not have anything to do with the movie, read the bold print !!
Will @ Jun 20th 2007 1:23AM
23: actually you're a HUGE IDIOT, universal does not support blu ray as of yet...they're the only exclusive provider for HD-DVD. check your facts before you go callin people idiots
Elliot J @ Jun 20th 2007 1:30AM
Do you people not get it? Microsoft wouldn't really care if it got released on Bluray or not. They aren't invested in HD-DVD, it just happens to be the format they chose to support and develop a drive for at the beginning of this 'format war'.
Even though they've recently stated they won't support bluray anytime soon, the fact that bluray is dominating high def video sales and will most likely continue to do so, will force Microsoft to release a Bluray drive at some point. To them it's just hardware, nothing more.
babyface @ Jun 20th 2007 7:08AM
Funny story, but there's a big chance that the movie will suck big time anyway, just like most videogame adaptations. A movie with a main character without a face, or actual personality... I wonder how much that will appeal to the mainstream audience outside of the gaming nerd community.
And, honestly, space marines shooting aliens isn't really that interesting as a movie story anyway.
Consolcwby @ Jun 20th 2007 9:17AM
Lol!... The war from this generation keeps getting more hilarious by the day! =D
coyurtney @ Jun 20th 2007 5:39PM
#1 we would just download this on their lonline movie service and
#2 it is seeeming that with the PS3 selling so bad and Blu-ray (winning yes, but only 1% of DVD sales) by the time Bluray takes off we woudl have another format or just DL everything.
maverick_saturn_626 @ Jun 21st 2007 10:57AM
Why is it gamers get so stressed out for pathetic things, all he did was start a flamebait, and you idiots come here with your facts and corrections, whats the point, it just makes you look stupid because nobody is actually reading what you post and within a few days this report will be all but forgotten.
Duh?
killzone addict @ Jun 25th 2007 6:59PM
who cares about the movie? It'll be sorta like AVP...good visuals...bad storyline and actors.
