Sony's San Diego studio to focus on PSN games
Gamasutra is today reporting that Sony's San Diego studio has stopped developing full-blown PS2 and PS3 games. Instead the studio is concentrating on developing downloadable content for the PlayStation Store. The thirty-person development team has split into three teams of ten, with each group working on a separate title. Hopefully with a setup like this we can see some good quality downloadable games coming out at a decent pace. Sony seem to be putting a lot more emphasis on first party support for their online service, as opposed to Microsoft's Xbox Live service which is almost exclusively third party. If Sony keep delivering cheap, quality, bite-sized gaming on the PSN with games like Calling All Cars and Blast Factor then it will do a good job placating us while we wait for the major titles to be released.
We are certainly looking forward to seeing what comes out of the San Diego studio in the future

That does sound like a good strategy splitting the 30 deep team into 3 groups of 10. putting all of thier focus and efforts onto just the psn should hopefully result in good content for the PS3 masses to download.
Also, im from San Diego as well and i have to add this before i sign off...GO CHARGERS!! =)

How about dedicating one or two guys to putting some CONTENT in the PS STORE? With over 170 Blu-Ray titles out there, there's no excuse not to have a trailer for every single one of them.
Also someone needs to completely revamp the presentation of the PS Store. It looks like a weak web page from a 10 year old kid with his first copy of Frontpage. The interface is clunky and feels incomplete and poorly conceived. Why not build the whole thing out in Flash, have it precache in the background while you're not doing anything, then when you visit it, it's a full on audio/visual experience with graphics and sound?
Maybe that's not these guys' department. :)

This whole MINI GAME phenomena is changing the face of console gaming thanks to the Wii and online down loadable content.
How shallow will gaming get? Back to the days of the arcade? Is this where gaming is going?
If you think about it, it's not very different from the old arcade days where people were plunking down quarter after quarter to play a game for literally two minutes of game play. Arcade games were short and sweet, not much content and very cheap, just like these mini games.
The market will divide in two, mini-game or arcade gamers and full length game players ala Metal Gear or Final Fantasy.
That's fine with me, just bring back some overhead shooters. And get us some of that PacMan love the 360 been hording.

So far the only game I want to download is Warhawk when it comes and possibly calling all cars.

Socom Confrontation will also be a good download title.

Socom Confrontation is a PS store download? It looks good but I would rather get Killzone 2 or Haze.

This from the people that brought us classic titles like NBA06 The Life.
