Ubisoft CEO says the PS3 launch price was "right"
CEO's can sometimes say the darndest things. The always outspoken CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot, spoke with Gamesindustry.biz about the cost of the PS3, which clearly differed from his earlier views. Speaking about Sony directly, he says, " [they] sold a machine that is actually expensive to build at the right price for consumers. It's just that if we want more consumers, we'll have to have a price that will make more people come in." Well Sony has at least one CEO in their corner in mild agreement about the launch price of the PS3, except it just further exemplifies a growing demand for a price cut now. The interviewer inquired about the possibility of a price cut before the all-important holiday season, to which Guillemot of course, agreed would be nice. "For publishers, we want as many machines sold as possible, so for us the lower the price the better," he says. Previously, analysts have estimated a PS3 price cut could already be on the way. Time will tell.[Via Joystiq]

this guy needs to go eat some stinky cheese and a bottle of cheap wine, and shut it.

He is right.

@pete:
Way to contribute to the thread with a stupid nationalistic statement. Guillemot IS right. The price of the PS3 is ok since it costs so much to manufacture. It just needs some killer titles to sell more consoles, which will lead more studios to risk millions on developing the next killer title as the install base grows. Chicken and the egg, really.

Pete is just a disgruntled little xbox fanboy that can't afford a PS3. I actually have pity for the poor sod because he's not good enough to joint the exclusive PS3 club.

Too true lol Too True!

These CEO's seem to support the PS3 with words but have no software to back up what they are saying.

He’s saying what everyone else has been saying it’s nothing new. Price cuts raise sales. And almost all hardware is sold at a loss at launch, not the wii, so thank you mister obvious. And I did own a 360 at launch; it was sold on craigslist a couple of months later. And although I do own a ps3 I would not be caught dead in your 'exclusive' club. What a bum. And Ubisoft could not port a good game to save its life.

Wake me up when the PS3's price is cut in HALF. Until Sony can do that, they might as well just leave it alone; shaving off $100 won't do jack for sales, imo.

Theres a point where the price goes to low. Blu-ray is worth more than 400 buckks on top of the best system eva.

" [they] sold a machine that is actually expensive to build at the right price for consumers..." then follows later with: "For publishers, we want as many machines sold as possible, so for us the lower the price the better..."
Hmmm... he sounds like he wants to have his cake, and eat it too, but doesn't suprise me... This is the UBI-SOFT guy - I'm surprised that he didn't mention the 360 Elite while he's at it. =/ He mentions M$ whenever Ubi mentions a GAME... why not now? Say something like, "It's too underpriced. For developers, that is great. It gets many consoles in the home at once and allows us to do PS3 owners a disservice by putting out crappy and rushed ports. But in a year or so, when the PS3 dominates the market, we might change direction on that; or maybe focus on the Wii - whatever pisses more people off."
