WipEout PS3 announcement announced for August

It's the in thing nowadays. Collector's editions, countdowns and announcements for upcoming announcements. Not one to be left out Tony Buckley, in an interview with Kikizo.com, jumped on the bandwagon. When asked about potential HD versions of WipEout he states "I think WipEout in HD would be stonking! ... It's obvious we're doing a WipEout for the PS3 but... well, there will be an announcement in August."
Stonking indeed! Having WipEout in 1080p would make our heads explode. WipEout Pulse for the PSP is looking excellent so we are looking forward to finding out exactly what Studio Liverpool has up its sleeves in a couple of months time.

@Andy: go play any of the WipEout games, they're all basically the same. Hover ships that haul ass around futuristic tracks, speed and weapon boosts, etc. The original for the PS1 is up on the PS Store for $5 or so. Personally I thought it looked horrible on the PS3 but playing it on the PS1 back in the day, it was alot of fun.

Day 1 UK Playstation 1's came with a demo of the original WipeOut, yes, i was there ! Now that was a ragged version with some very dodgy human speech.
Probably worth something now !!

This is one of those games that is forcing me to get a PS3 although I am a happy (and red ring free)360 owner. Wipeout games are the best racing games out there.

I hope the Wip3out people are paying attention to what work is going down with Koei's Fatal Inertia (which I haven't heard about in ages, and which is not even mentioned on their site)-- I thought this would be the next-gen answer to Wipeout, but now I wonder.
Wipeout made me buy a ps1, and when the ps2 came out, my friend bought it for me, with Wipeout Fusion and the experience was amazing, especially how the sounds and the songs all vibed together.
But a couple years later, it looked dated, pasty, like GT3. PD came out with GT4, and you could see the processor humming over every pixel. But no other Wipeout for ps2 ever came...
It will be interesting to see how Wipeout compares to Fatal Inertia. Hope they have their eyes on the ball...
